Nevada Governor to shutdown Vegas Bars...

Looks like the Gov. will close bars not serving food in certain locations within the state, including Las Vegas as of 11:59pm this Friday. What I gathered from his statements, that would include most casino bars; or am I interpreting it wrong? A Las Vegas Sun article says restaurants and casinos must close inside bars, but alcohol still can be served. I've got a trip planned in nine days and was looking forward to doing some heavy play at the D's Vue bar and playing and sipping cold Heinekens at the Gate's Prohibition bar. What next?

@GovSisolak just announced directives effective 11:59 p.m. Friday, July 10: - Bars in certain counties, including @ClarkCountyNV, will return to Phase 1 restrictions. - All restaurants & food establishments must not seat parties larger than 6 people. A full list of counties will be shared tomorrow. Restrictions in these counties will apply to bars and taverns that do not serve food. They can still provide curbside pickup and delivery where allowed locally, but cannot have patrons on the premise. Restaurants with bar areas must close the bar areas to patrons and continue to limit capacity to 50%. Customers can continue to be served alcohol but must not congregate in the bar areas or be served at the bar. All bar tops will be closed regardless if they have gaming machines installed. All restaurants and food establishments - pubs, breweries, distilleries, wineries - which are licensed to serve food, must not seat parties larger than 6 people, indoors or outdoors. Food establishments should encourage outdoor dining. Additionally, @GovSisolak shared reminders about other hotspots including pools and gyms: At pools, unless you are actively walking into a pool, swimming or walking out of a pool, you should have a face covering on. At gyms, you must wear face covering at all times unless you are actively engaged in a high intensity workout, in this case you must be six feet apart from others. This includes, yoga, Pilates, dance and other things people do associated with exercise. “Protecting the health and safety of all Nevadans is and always will be my top priority. Right now that means reimplementing some restrictions in order to save lives and protect our healthcare system.” "We are safer at home. The governor seems to want to protect the health of everyone, yet won’t ban indoor smoking in casinos.

 

The pool part may cause me to cancel my trip. I knew this trip would be more subdued and i was planning mostly pool time to occupy myself during the day. I'm not a sit in the pool constantly kind of person. I like to read and people watch from my lounger. A mask at 105 degrees in August just doesn't sound like the pool experience anyone wants.

There’s been a gradual increase in COVID-19 cases since bars and other businesses such as gyms and water parks reopened about a month ago in the second phase of bringing the economy back after more than 80 days of closures. The positivity test rate is 7.5%.

You can order and consume food at most of the casino bars I've been to. Does that mean the bars can remain open? (I won't be going until … but am just curious.)

 

Unsure but not worth the risk

 

This was inevitable. States pushing reopenings are seeing spikes in Covid case numbers and are forced to roll back the urgency. Shouldn't have opened so fast in the first place. Oh well.

 

So the line is drawn at serving food for staying open? What if you offer peanuts and popcorn?

That's what we experienced in Florida when the bars reopened. Bars would sell you bag of chips for a buck, some gave free chips and salsa, others made you order something off the menu. But they would not let you sit at the bar.

 

I say this to my wife quite often, but what would the current US population do if they had to sacrifice similar to what our parents did during WWII? IMO, we would fail.

And if I can add something -- and feel free to nuke this part if inappropriate: We learn something new about this thing with regularity yet we certainly aren't close to knowing all the questions to ask let alone having all the answers. People still struggle with the later-in-life consequences of having had a "simple" virus we've known about and dealt with for eons, and that's chicken pox ... become shingles; it's always in you. Or HIV. We can't eradicate it. But we've found ways for people to be able to live with it. That's been three-plus decades.

Y'all so inclined to think this is the flu or will just blow over need to walk that one back, way back.

Being in proximity to people who are carriers -- many without signs or even knowing it -- is HOW this thing catches a ride. That's someone sneezing near you or coughing on you and it ALSO is being in enclosed spaces. And you can mask and wash all you want, and you should, but enclosed indoor spaces are a big problem. No one will die from not getting a 2020 trip to Vegas. No one will die from not getting another 2020 visit to a crowded bar. But they might if they do. Their friends and family who didn't partake might die. Or come down grievously ill, perhaps permanently. Yes, many (most?) won't. Don't say, "Fuck it, I'm doing it." Throwing caution to the wind isn't simply indulging your "gambling" instincts. It's folly. With gambling we know the math, the risk/reward. Unless you're a Stu Ungar, gambling ain't gonna kill you.

We're not sheep, we're not cowering in fear; we're smart, rational people. There are many ways not to have to spend every moment cloistered at home. There are many ways to get out and actually have fun, see some sights, even get a bite or a brew. It just takes acceptance of the reality of the world at this point, altering behaviors and not childishly demanding the same old, same old in everything you do.
