Palazzo vs Augustus at Casaers

Ask a newbie (which I am not, shame) question, hope those familiar with both hotels can provide some insight. I know CP, but not much about Venetian/Palazzo.
Basically I can stay at Augustus Strip view room at Caesars Palace without resort fee, $0 for 3 nights.
I can also have a Palazzo suite for the same 3 nights free, but with resort fees ($45 each, $135 total).
Which one is the better choice? Suppose the casino part (game selection, ADT, future comps) not a factor at all beause I will play as I like to, regardless of where I stay.
In fact I have no obligation to play at either place. I just want to see if the $135 is worth it.

Excluding casino as a factor, I like Palazo a bit more. I like the room a little more, better restaurant selection at V/P, and much better spa (if they are open when you go). I like the CP pool better, but that's about it. But there's not a wide margin between the two properties. You should be happy either place

 

I don't like to pay for any hotel room if I can get a comp, so Caesars Augustus tower would be my choice.

I'm a "thrifty Asian", so let me sum up MY pros and cons of each property, which may or may not apply to you.

Some of the may not apply to when you're traveling, I'm just writing a list of what stands out to me.

Self park is very close to the room elevators (make sure you park near the employment office)
Elevators open a short walk to the casino floor
Close to the walkway to Venetian
Good Chinese restaurants (Mott32 and Hong Kong Cafe)
Grande Lux cafe open 24 hours

Cons
No buffet at either Venetian or Palazzo
Long walk to the valet
Standard rooms at Venetian/Palazzo are not really "suites" (this point has been discussed many times before). To me, it's just a larger room with a separate area separated by a couple of steps.
At the FAR North end of the strip, and a good walk to almost anywhere except Wynn/Encore.

Those are the things that are inportant to me, and I understand that NONE of the may be important to you.

Restaurant comparison (if you don't count the walkway between Palazzo and Venetian, CP has it hands down. However, if you DO count the walkway, I'd have to give the edge to V/P many more high end restaurants.:

Buffet (V/P has none). CP has Bacchanal, which, IMHO, is one of the top three in LV

Asian - V/P has Mott 32 and Hong Kong Cafe, CP has Mr. Chows and Beijing Noodle No. 9. I have eaten at three of these restaurants (Mott 32 was a little too pricey and I get comped at CET and mLife) - on what I know, edge to CP

I like the rooms better at V/P than Augustus Strip View at CP. Also count me as one who likes the restaurant line up better at V/P too. The view at CP with the Bellagio Fountain and South Strip is better than any view I've had at V/P if that means anything to you.

I definitely have the same feeling about paying for anything when I can get similar things for completely free.

 

Do you mean just a regular room at Palazzo?

Personally, I like the regular room at Palazzo over a regular Augustus room. The Palazzo room is bigger. It's unlikely to have as good a view as the Strip View Augustus.

The problem for me is the hold %s on the slots I play at Palazzo are horrible.

The $135 over 3 nights wouldn't really influence me, but the slot hold does. There's no way to be sure, but I think it's probably $100 a day diff on $4k coin-in. if you play pennies mostly, there may not be that much diff between Palazzo and anywhere else.

Since you're familiar with CP, overall, I'd say give Palazzo a try, see if you like it, it's a good property, it would be in my rotation if the slot holds weren't so bad.

I believe it is the regular (cheapest) room, the 720SF Luxury King Suite.

 

The base "suite" which isn't a true suite btw at Palazzo is larger, bathroom will feel a bit more luxe, though the Augustus room has a jetted tub which Palazzo does not.
Venetian overall is a higher end hotel.

However, I'd go with Caesars. Now is a fantastic time to build a relationship with them. They have a reduced tier credit amount to hit Platinum, the various Diamonds, and 7 Stars. If you are Diamond already, you can enjoy the lounge plus two free drink tickets in lieu of the Diamond Lounge. If you aren't, it is a great time to go for it.
Staying with Caesars offers many opportunities to stay in other places across the country, and you can room charge from many other properties in Vegas.

In terms of shopping and the pool, Caesars is superior. Finally, my favorite hotel is Wynn. Palazzo is too close to it in terms of price which being slightly inferior. If I'm going down that route, I'll just stay at Wynn.

 

It really comes down to where you think you will be spending the most time - drinking, eating, playing, etc.

V/P is a bit nicer but is NOT a suite as said. And, to me, paying for a room for a slightly better room is a no-go for me. Add in that my play at V/P has never resulted in good news. Done better at CP. Happy with food choices there as well.

As to comment that you will play where you want regardless... well - most of play tends to be at hotel where I am staying.

 

I would definitely recommend trying V/P.
I love the vibe and experience. I think the base level suites are really nice. The food lineup is too notch. The casinos are very different Vibes so you have choices. Venetian is lower, more compact and higher energy. Palazzo is more airy and chill and relaxed.

I would definitely try something new and I think it’s a bit better “all around”.

I like all the comments but would add that both CP and V/P have attached nice shopping centers. Since there are currently no shows I know of, strolling around inside is a nice thing to do when the temperature in Vegas is around 100 degrees and you want to do more than gamble and drink.

I have never stayed at CP but Palazzo is my home base in Vegas, I have never had to pay a resort fee when staying there on a comp, I believe they allow you to wave the resort fee on comp stays.

 

i just got out of venetian and absolutely hated the nickel and diming.... review coming later

 

You mentioned walking distance to the valets.. last I heard, Vegas valet parking was closed down due to the virus. Is that still the case?

 

I prefer CP, but i think the rooms at the V/P are marginally better but i don't really spend a lot of time in the room. I just wouldn't pay anything for the difference, plus I prefer gambling at CP. As long as its open, the diamond lounge in CP is right by the Augustus tower.

 

I’m in a similar situation, however, my dilemma is a basically comped 4 nights in the Octivius Tower vs Wynn Panoramic. Wynn is my home base the past four years, but the “cheaper” CP offer is making it difficult to make a decision! Even though The Wynn seems like the obvious choice, something about Caesars entices me! Caesars is such a classic Vegas experience and has everything you need in one place. I’ve never stayed at Palazzo, but find it to be a very top notch resort. I can’t really help you, but I would lean toward Caesar’s only because of location, pool, restaurants, and the fact that it never disappoints! Best of luck to you!

 

I can't speak to everywhere, but generally yes.

To be fair, no buffet anywhere right now. The biggest thing, if you're taking dining into account, is when you're going and checking what'll be open. For example, as of a couple days ago, NOBU, Mr. Chow's, and Beijing Noodle No. 9 were all closed at Caesars. Many places that used to be 24/7 in town now have limited hours (at Cosmo, The Henry is only open overnight, for example).

All I would suggest is that you base your decisions not on how Vegas was a year ago, but on how Vegas is the day you're going.
