Our known traveler numbers are set to expire in six months, and I just received an email purportedly from TSA which offered the opportunity to renew online. Is this legit? Anybody done it?

Yep, as greekjim says, not a problem. I just did it too early, the Amex cc I have will now reimburse. Oh well!

We did the global entry + TSA Precheck and it is due to expire this year. Went to renew online and they want to do an interview - but no appts for about a year.

I really would be happy to just to TSA Precheck... there are other ways to quickly enter the country now... and our intl travel might be over anyways. Good news is they extended the current one for a long time - maybe a year?

I got mine for the first time last year. I wonder why TSA does not provide a card with your KTN on it. I made my own, for easy reference. Seems like a good idea...probably why they won't do it.

Not sure if there is any reason to have a card. No place to ever show it.

When booking, it would be convenient to have it at hand....rather than have to look it up, write it down, etc, etc....

    True.

Most airlines allow you put it in your profile and it is then there every time you book a flight.

Yeah, on my trip last Sept, Allengiant had it in there on my departure, but on my return trip it was gone. Didn't have it on me either (that's when I made my own card). Oh well, I should be good now.
