Travel Coffee Makers

I found a few threads on this but didn't really see specific models listed.

I'm trying to locate a travel coffee maker - preferably one that will hold k-cups. I found one mentioned on FB however the ratings on Amazon kind of stink for it, so still hunting.

Really not looking for an immersion coil or regular coffee maker. I may only use it a couple of times on a trip and would prefer one I can reuse in the future & carry easily.

Would appreciate recommendations with brand & hopefully model number.

 

Why k-cups? I have a single serve coffee maker that uses my own grounds that weighs less than a pound.

 

Stay a Caesars Palace many rooms have Keurig machines, bring your own K-Cups.

 

Could you share the make and model type?

 

I would like to hear your recommendation. I just however brew a HORRIBLE cup of coffee, no matter how I try lol. I seem to be the safest with a Keurig which is why I said I prefer a k-cup style and wasn't looking for a regular.

I am staying at Paris. I always stay CET, but at Paris I believe only ones left with a brewer are suites. My last Red room definitely did not have one. I prefer the smaller footprints at Paris/Ballys/Flamingo where if I need add'l sweets/juice I can get to the newstand/gift shop in 2 minutes. (I'm a Type 1 diabetic and the increased walking has at times crashed my blood sugar to the point where I have gone through all of the stuff I have had in the room).

Thanks - ratings on that one seem pretty good. A few bad ones for using grounds. I'm going to see if our local WM has that model and take a look at it up close. Easier when we travel non Vegas as we stay at places with continental breakfast lol!!!

 

My friend has one of these that she bought on Amazon and said it works well. She often brings it with her when she travels and uses it at home too. I think she bought it on a Black Friday special, so it was a bit cheaper than the current price ($39.99).

I have the ADIRchef for $20 on Amazon. I've also used it at home on weekends for a year now. There is a micro screen canister that doesn't need a filter, but I use one for easy clean up. Basically it percolates boiling water into the canister, then drips into a travel mug. Only thing is it's cracked now because I dropped it on the kitchen floor.

I want to go lighter this year and I just purchased a $10 immersion heater. I tried it this morning and made a couple of 12 oz. Cups of coffee with it. I heated the water in one cup then made coffee in another cup. I used the grounds canister from my cracked maker, I suspended it above the coffee cup with a section of coat hanger wire that I bent into a triangle. Macgyver-ish but it worked well on my first try.

I'm with the crowd that has to have coffee and a snack when I wake up on vacation. I don't think they want me walking through the casino in my underwear to get coffee.

Can anyone confirm that golden nugget ditched their Keurigs in their rooms? I used to just bring k-cups but haven't stayed there for a couple years. I'm going back there this year. Thought I read it somewhere but not sure.

 

The mini Keurig machine looks nice, but has Horrible reviews.

There are so many little one-cuppesr I have seen.
I bought a one cupper black&decker one at Big Lots and few years ago.
I keep it in the box at my sisters house, so when I visit, I get coffee. (she does not drink coffee)

 

I have the identical one (with different brand name, but looks identical)
We just used it on our last trip for coffee for four every morning, not too big, works great.
also around same retail but purchased on sale..
We also have 3 kettles of different sizes, one collapsable, and various pour over, aeropress type gadgetry, but lately we lean to the lighter, simpler, immersion heater with instant coffee.

 

I also looked for one that would take K-cups, but they were all too expensive and too heavy. I ended up with this little guy, and it has worked out fine. It came with a case which I like, too. I bring my own coffee, or grab some at a walgreen's once I get out there. I also bring some Bailey's or Iowish nips (airplane bottles?) for sweetener I haven't lost the mug yet, but I usually transfer the coffee to a paper/plastic one. By the way, it is much smaller than it appears in that picture.

Also, I got mine while ago. I am not sure if it comes with the case now.

We have the little black and Decker, similar to one shown here. Not a k cup. Husband and I don't drink same coffee anymore, so we haven't traveled with it in a few years. We will bring k cups if our hotel has one (husband uses Keurig at home and work - I use old school drip but have some k cups for variety and visitors) (husband only drinks decaf now; I do not - but both of us can survive without a morning cup as needed....)

 

I used to carry a 4 cup machine in my suitcase. Box size was of course paramount. Then I found a 12 cup where the box was 1 inch longer in length and the same in the other dimensions. That's what I use now

Take a tape measure the store and use the box size in your comparison shopping.

 

I too got the brewer that INSIN has. It works great for k cups. I take it to Vegas every trip. I bring my favorite k cups and have a great cup in the morning.

 

This is the one I use, there's a coupon on the page to save $5 so it's 34.99. Works good enough for me, but coffee is coffee to me.

For portability, we take a small electric kettle and Starbuck’s Via instant coffee tubes. Not bad, easy to carry and cheap.

We do K cups at home, but we’d not carry a K cup maker or coffee pot around-just a convenience choice.

 

[I have an immersion coil but I almost never carry it these days - much of my work travel the past decade has been in Asia where electric kettles in a room are standard, and in the US - I've decided I prefer to not drink coffee over drinking the instant coffee I can find] Also have to carry a mug for the immersion coil, so not worth it to me- most of the time I'm trying to pack light....But I keep it in case I do need it some day ;-)

 

If I remember correctly, you usually stay in a Wynn Salon Suite, right? If so, does that mean they don’t provide (or won’t provide on request) a coffee maker in the room?

 

They do not provide coffee makers. And I’ve never asked for one, but I’m sure if I did they’d probably bring one (but coffee would be there in five or ten minutes if I wanted it). It was Mr. Wynn’s view that Wynn (and Bellagio and Mirage before) was supposed to be a “classy joint,” and if you wanted coffee someone would bring you fresh brewed coffee in a silver pot, with real cream, a china cup and a flower. There would never be coffee makers while he was in charge. Also, I’m pretty sure they have the same sanitary and safety concerns I do about in-room coffee makers (and Las Vegas tap water in a coffee maker?-yikes!). I absolutely would never use an in-room coffee maker. I would regard the installation of in-room coffee makers as a cheapening of Wynn, an invention of the new management from Caesars, and a buckling under to all the idiots who write one star Trip Advisor reviews because they want a coffee maker. We’re very classy-we just bring a small, cheap electric kettle in our suitcase.

The good news is they’ll bring you really good coffee, there’s free coffee downstairs at Tableau and in the lounge, and places to get coffee everywhere. You won’t lack for coffee, that’s for sure. Wynn has lots of coffee, coffee everywhere, but I hope never from an in-room maker, or even worse, an on premises Starbucks. That would be the end of days.....

Mrs. Johnny defies the “classy joint” and heats up a little pot of the bottled water they give you, throws in some Starbucks instant, a little bit of cocoa and drinks it from a 24 ounce Tervis tumbler. Every day at Wynn, for years. The classy joint patrol has never thrown us out. They have some sort of strong (organic) coffee almost like a French roast downstairs-that’s what I drink. Coffee everywhere.
