Casino mistakes that were in your favor

Once at a crap table, I requested to colour up and passed all my chips to the crew. Just as the crew stacked up my chips, the dice rolled and knocked my stack of chips over along with the casinos stack of green chips. My chips and the casinos green chips were mixed up and when it was all sorted out, I gained a few extra green chips

 

If that person was sitting behind me on a plane, I'd break my personal no reclining the seat rule!

 

I was playing bacc in the HL room at MB, there was one other guy at the table. I took a marker for $2,000 in blacks.

Played a few hands, the other guy colored up. I played one more hand, but I didn't feel like playing alone (too fast), so I decided to color. I was up a couple of hundred. Box asks if I want to pay off the marker, I said yeah.

He goes to get the marker and right then, there was a dealer shift change. Box comes back with the marker, I shove the new dealer $2k in blacks, box hands me the marker and walks away, but the new dealer doesn't pick up on that, and gives me two yellows, she didn't realize what was going on.

I was pretty buzzed and didn't fully grasp it until I was on the elevator. Got to the room, looking back and forth between the marker and the chips. Room phone rang about 2 mins later, lol. I went down and gave it back.

 

I have had multiple dealers at the Gold Coast that would pay me when I lost or pushed, hell it's one of the main reasons I play BJ there.

 

OMG this one time in Vegas... Oh wait, I've never had a mistake at a casino made in my favor. Hell, I can't even get the guy at the buffet meat station to give me two slices instead of one.

 

A few years ago, Planet Hollywood had a Criss Cross Poker for a short time. It was newly installed when I was there and the dealers were still being trained on it. I was there after midnight and no one else was playing. The dealer was trained for a few hands, then the trainer left her on her own. Both the dealer and the trainer were paying the ante the same as the back bets (based on the hand).

I had only played it a few times myself so I did not realize it was wrong at the time. It wasn't until I played it again in WV, and they only paid 1:1 on the ante, that I realized Vegas had screwed up. If I known it at the time, I probably would have stuck with that game much longer.

 

Many years ago back when UTH was newer, we had one dealer at Palazzo that would pay out for two pair on the trips bet consistently. That was a fun table to play.

Playing a nickel slot at an Indian casino when slots still were coin out. Had about 200 credits decided to cash out, so I put a bucket in the tray and hit cash out hile I am waiting all of a sudden had three people around me, two in suits. They asked me to get up and step to the side. By then the coins had all finished one of the suits said quarters as he looked in the bucket. The other one said that cant happen, well guess it could someone had put a bag of quarters instead of nickles in the machine. Then they start giving me the stink eye, told them hey I not the one that put the wrong coins in there. Told them keep your quarters just pay me what I have coming in Nickles. They finally informed me I could keep what the slot paid out. I would imagine someone lost a job over this, and a nickle machine will spit out quarters. Never did figure out how they showed up so quick, am sure the rest of the trip I was on their radar.

 

I think the most frequent error in my favor is getting paid on the ante when the dealer doesn't qualify in 3CP. Once at Harrah's I was on a winning streak, upping my bets from my usual $5 to $25 and playing for the dealer as well, and multiple times I was paid out on the ante when I did not qualify. I didn't point out the mistake, and wasn't worried about Harrah's, but was worried that the dealer may get in trouble for it.

On the other side of this, when I first got into gambling, I had a tough time getting into craps because there were a few sessions where I ended up getting short changed in various ways. The most egregious time that I remember was when I was probably about 19, playing craps in San Juan. I had put down a bet on the pass line, and another player went and picked it up and kept it. I think it was a mistake, but at that age I was too scared to say anything, so I just took my remaining chips and left. I was furious, because $5 was a big amount for me at that time because I spent a while working to save up my small $200 bankroll!

 

Me too. One caveat if it affects other players I will keep quiet. Playing three card one dealer paid me didn’t notice he had a flush. He then took money from the other player at the table.

 

Craps dealer failed to take my losing pass line bet .... but then later, I had to ask for my winning 8 payment!

 

This is why I wont be honest the next time!!..I was at the Venetian playing slots;went up to the bill changer and there was $40 in the bill return slot. I took the money looked around to see if anyone would notice they didn't have their money. Stood by the machine about 10 minutes,,no-one came back to check so I told a change attendant what happened. She looked stunned and said she didn't know what to do about it. I went to security desk and asked them. They told me to just keep it ..then said they would make a call. I waited about an hour after numerous calls to various departments in the casino. Finally someone came and accepted the money from me and left. I didn't want to be a hero or anything(it was only $40)..but a thank you would have been nice. I never felt like I was a criminal for giving the money back. Well next time the money goes in my pocket with no guilt>

 

My typical MO when I'm paid or 'pushed' on a loss? I leave the money out there until just before the next hand is dealt...sometimes, I even wait for the dealer to question me about why I have two bets out there, side-by-side.
Even then, I almost always double-up my future bets until I have a loss...sure, I sometimes come out ahead even more doing this, but eventually, I end up losing back the over-payment... the fact that I chose to risk more in the meantime is not relevant to my playing double my normal amount on a losing hand. Once I do that, I go back to my normal bet amounts.

The most humorous one I've experienced was at an unnamed downtown casino...UTH...completely full table, which included 3 of my gambling companions.
Dealer dealt a full-house on the board...and paid everyone on their Trips bets....so what, right?
Well, the problem was that she had a higher pair with her hole-cards than the pair on the board.... the board was something like K-K-5-K-5, and she had 7-7....something like that. Anyway, she pushed all of our back-bets - including the blind bets!
And - as UTH was still fairly new, she called the pit-critter over before she started paying us...he watched her pay each of us, and when she was done, he said "Fine...you're good...go ahead", and walked off.
He missed it himself!
All of us just looked at each other with raised eyebrows, but said nothing... these two other guys at the table? One them starts saying to his buddy, "Hey - doesn't that pair..." (his buddy cuts him off, saying): "Just shut up, ok?".
All of this happened while the pit watched the payouts... incredible!
(Yes - I doubled up my bets on the next hand, except for the Trips bet, & lost!)

Generally, the most common player-edge dealer-error I've experienced is being paid on pushes in blackjack....rare, but still more common than any other error I encounter.
The most common house-edge dealer-error I've seen has been with missing player straights on UTH & on the 6-card bonus in 3-card... & I always call them out when I see them.

 

They made you wait for an HOUR? I’d have just taken the $40, dropped it at the security desk, and said “here, I found this at (place)... bye”.

 

Or, "Hey, I'm going to insert these into one of your Buffalo machines for safe keeping. If you learn who the bills belong to, then you'll know where to find them."

 

I guess I was kinda relying on Karma....but that didn't work..lol

 

The biggest I've had is a dealer misspay on maybe a $25 bet, i sometimes but not always will point out a dealer error the first time(if i dont like the dealer I wont), after that they're on their own. I will never point out a dealer mistake in another players favor, I will if it's against them.

For the people that say they couldn't live with themselves if they were to accept it, I dont have that problem, i sleep like a baby with sweet dreams of extra cash.

 

About four or five years ago at Harrah's, it was like 3 in the morning on a weekday there was just about no one in the casino except me and my two buddies. We were playing Push the Button Craps and having a good time. We all had been drinking and partying since the morning before since we had just gotten to Vegas that day. So we were all hammered. When playing the game, I hit the button and BOOM the dice blow up. The entire outside casing just obliterated on the one. So you couldn't tell what the roll was. Inside I believe all you could see was a foam or sponge material. Well the machine had no idea what to do and it pretty much wiped the entire game out. We walked around trying to get someone to help us and it took forever.

They came over and had no clue what happened or how to fix it. They said it would take awhile. We did not want to sit around that long, so she said she could just pay us back out money that we had in the machine. We all only put in 20 bucks and had about 15 left. Just trying to get a drink. She asks the first guy how much and he says 15. Next buddy gets smart and says 50. I then of course said 200. The whole time they just stared at me. Well she pays us and we get the HELL out of there before they can look in the camera or something.

Looking back now I could have bad gambling karma. But that night was the best night of my life. I ended up being up a few thousand and was up for about 52 straight hours. Still my record to this day.

 

Maybe 10 years ago....found a Wild Cherry slot that was set wrong. It was a .50 machine, but gave credits like it was a .25 machine. I put in a $20, expecting 40 credits. It gave me 80 credits. It essentially doubled my money. I cycled every bill I had through it. I cashed in my Tito’s and came back for round 2. After that, I came back for a third session to find it shut down with floor staff around it. I got outta there. Took it for over $800. Thank you gambling gods....

 

You didn't steal very wisely. Instead of cashing out Tito's, you just needed to re-insert your tito. 100 becomes 200, 200 becomes 400, 400 to 800. Just think of how much more you could have stolen!
