My best friend just dropped from CET Diamond to Platinum for 2020, and is considering cancelling his 4 precooked trips at PH and Paris because he will now be charged resort fees according to customer service.

Although the rooms were booked last year when he was Diamond, he will be getting charged, and the other Diamond perks (VIP line, Celebration Dinner, etc) are no more.

Has anyone else experienced the downgrade with CET stayed with them? I am pretty sure he is moving his business to MLife.

Sounds like if he values that this much he should have gotten to Diamond again. I’m all about casinos giving back more, but criteria for Diamond is pretty clear and he shouldn’t take it personally or act as though they are taking something “away” from him if not earned for the year.

I’m in my third year as Diamond and have a feeling I won’t earn status next year, so am prepared to pay for Resort fees when that happens.

This question about checking in after losing diamond status has been asked several times on this board. What your friend found out was the answer always given. You pay resort fees. Makes sense and shouldn't have been a surprise.

Besides, it's not like he won't pay resort fees at Mlife either.

It's standard operating procedure your are billed at your status at check in, and unless you level up before check out, you will be billed accordingly,. There's been several threads on this, so there shouldn't be any surprises there.

If your friend wants to move his business elsewhere, that's his right and privilege, but CET has the "easiest" path to making level to not have to pay resort fees. It's going to take him a LOT more play to get to "no resort fees" with mLife or anywhere else.

Yeah no issue with how the casino is handling this. Standard procedure. His diamond status has to be “earned” year over year to continue to get the benefits (or at least every other year, depending on how you want to try to game the system)

As mentioned already, it's pretty typical. Not sure how moving his business to MLIFE helps him, as he still has to pay the resort fees. IMO, if he earned CR diamond organically, getting resort fees comped isn't at all hard.

Also, with the wealth of knowledge and posts about tier matching on VMB and so many other gaming/travel forums, he could've easily maintained diamond. I mean, even now, if he has any mid elite tier status with any hotel programs, he can probably obtain CR diamond again.

Seems like a massive overreaction to something that was completely within his control. If he goes to Vegas four times a year and did not gamble/spend enough to retain Diamond - then he should simply feel grateful for getting those Diamond perks while he got them. If he simply did not visit as much last year - but has 4 trips planned for this year and will gamble enough to get back to Diamond - then why not do it . He will get the Celebration Dinner this year as soon as he earns Diamond again this year so that really isn't "lost" yet - he just needs to play enough to regain that status, which again, should not be difficult in four trips with CET hotel stays. He will pay resort fees until he regains Diamond status - but that is the cost of taking a year "off" if that is in fact why he went back to Platinum.

    Resort fees?
Sure, move to Mlife. You will be paying them over there.

And, if you have no history, you will also be paying for the rooms.

    Whatever works...?!?!

Not to beat a dead horse, but that's the way the cookie crumbles...
Might try Treasure Island, their offers have optional resort fees.
Another option to obtain diamond is the founders card, it looks like it can be had for just under $400 with the right code.
With the $100 dining credit this would pay for itself after roughly 7.5 nights based on the current Harrah's resort fee rate.

Did he book them expecting to be able to not pay the fees? How many nights did he stay last year and not earn Diamond? As stated he knew what the break point was.

I managed Diamond with 5 nights in Vegas, 2 in Iowa and 2 full days of play in Biloxi. Yes that is 9 days but I also had no bonus offers other than daily bonus to get me to Diamond. (And I actually did it in 8 days but I kept playing in Biloxi after I made it lol).

Depending on what date his first trip is, there is a 5x promo he could register for on Easter weekend. If he played hard enough those two days he would be close to Diamond in a couple day period.

If he truly is a player then I am sure they will be comped off on the backend. If they can’t be then he doesn’t play enough.

Wouldn't it be kinda funny if CR didn't charge resort fees at check-in if you lost Diamond. I'd just hella book rooms for the future and then cancel them if I don't make the trip.
But yeah, moving to Mlife. Not a good idea. It's easy to be someone at CR than at Mlife. If he didn't hit 25k for Diamond at CR then he will probably be Pearl @ Mlife which is meh.

    There are a few options...

-Get a FoundersCard for $395 and then get Diamond through that. A little steep but you get resort fees waived and the $100 diamond dinner. If you stay 9 nights or so you are even and anything else after that you're ahead.
-Get the Hilton Honors American Express Surpass card, pay the $95 annual fee and then match your Hilton gold to Wyndham and then to Caesars. You also get Priority Pass too I believe which is pretty cool.
-Spend $3,000 on hotel rooms, that gets 5x tier credits for 15,000 tier credits and Diamond. If he earns 5,000 TC from play then it goes down to $2,000 he needs to spend on rooms. $160/night plus resort fee for 10 nights would give him 10,000 TCs.
-On April 10 to 11, Earn 2,500 TC from gaming in one day and get 5,000 TC bonus plus another 10,000 TC.. must enroll in the promo.

I should have added a little more color to the original post. He has been a Diamond CET member since 2012, and his prior host always took care of him. His host has since left to work for a MGM property, and has shared with him based on his historical play he would take care of him.

None of these places are going anywhere anytime soon. If your friend tries MLife and decides it isn't for him, then he can always go back to trying for Diamond at CET.

If I’m being honest, and I am, why would someone who can’t even scrape together 15K CET Points even ask about this. Their Diamond IMHO is WAY too easy to get.

Good luck at mlife. They don’t give you anything, especially if you play tables. If you didn’t earn diamond then it is your own fault, not the casino. Personally I think the path to diamond is way way to simple. If you are a player worth anything diamond at 25k over 12 months is nothing!!! I earned 35k tier points in the month of January alone. I am not a huge player and am on tables, not slots.

As was said above, if this is really the case, then go with the host. However I think your friend is going to have to increase his play significantly. The reason I say that is it is my distinct impression Mlife hosts are held to a much tighter leash than CET hosts. One reason comps can be harder to obtain there is that they are closely monitored by their superiors and it won't be long before a manager is going to ask "why did you give player [X], comp [Y], when his play is [Z]. Comps tend to be a "what did you do for me today/yesterday" scenario, and your friend is going to get exactly 0.0 miles with comps at Mlife for his 2012-2018 CET play, host or not.
