Look at my TR and see how many of my 4OAKs were on BP vs DDB. I feel your pain. I figured for the variance difference it averages out and allows me to hunt the Royal longer. I switched to DDB when I was up.

Thank you for your very thoughtful advice gutshot! I am quite the gambler since starting playing poker with my Mom! I totally love blackjack but the games have gotten bad unless you want to make ++$100 bets. Thinking I am ready for a new challenge and I totally loved playing on my last visit.

I started out on JoB when I was learning the game because you can stay in the game longer and just rack up the hands, but as I've gotten better and use more or less sound strategy I now play Triple Double Bonus. You can go through a hundy in a hurry but if you do hit a good hand the payoff will be better. Hit $2K on 4 aces with the kicker last trip at Mirage so I doubt I will be going back from TDB any time soon.

Always DDB, usually Extra Draw Frenzy (for better or worse!)

I'll be the odd one. I like DW and when the pay table is decent, seem to do well. Last three outings I hit a Royal (no deuces), 4 deuces, and 4 deuces for a net gain of $900, $350 and $250 on quarter machines. Then I am not a habitual VP player.

From your observation about the blackjack rules, I am assuming that you are playing on the Strip? In most (though importantly, not all) of the resorts on the strip, the Video Poker (at least at reasonable limits) is as bad, if not worse, than the blackjack. Even places that have good games like 9/6 Jacks or Better (like the Cromwell, or Wynn at 5 dollars or more a credit, to name two) aren't going to give you enough slotclub bounce-back and free-play to put the game over 100 percent EV.

I mean to say that, whatever it is you decide to learn and play, knowing *where* to play it is absolutely as important a decision to make carefully. Downtown and off-strip locations in Las Vegas are a much better bet, both in terms of the paytables on offer and the slotclubs.

100 play BP at the .01 or .02 level is my favorite. At the end of the night I switch to DDB or TDB to try for the big win.

Absolute favorite - $1 TDB Dream Card on the 5Star machines. But with it's extreme volatility I limit playing this to a quick visit to the local, where I use a win big/go broke strategy. The $2000+ winner cycle is only around 1000 hands. Of course, far more likely, is a (very) quick $800 bust-out. Other games I like locally are 9/7 TDB, 9/6 TTB and 9/5 DDB with a 5-way progressive meter.

In Vegas I tend to go for $1 Bonus progressives. Generally they are 7/5, but generally you can find one with a $5k+ royal. Or, I play quarters at Cromwell or row 802 at Aria. The last thing I want to do in Vegas is bust my trip BR by day 2 playing high volatility $1 games.

Sounds like $1 TDB Dream Card on 5Star machines might be good to try with FP!

Full pay JoB for me. This next trip I plan to expand my horizons and give some progressives a shot at Vue Bar and 4Q. Not sure exactly what games the progressives are on, but I assume it is Bonus or Double Bonus so that is what I am working on.

Bonus is the best game at Vue.

At 4Q bars, for the quarter level it can either be DDB, DB, or Deuces depending on the meters. But at 50c+, it's DDB.

This is a nice game, when you can find it, because the worst paytable available is 99.19%. My mom loved this game when St. Louis still offered it, but it's probably been a decade now...

    FPDW and 10/7 DB.

I don't play machines that don't pay back 100% unless there's some promotional point giveaway to make them positive.

I tend to play Deuces Wild and JOB, since I have the most experience playing those 2 games and make the least amount of mistakes so I tend to come out ahead in the long run. So, I guess you could say those are my favorites. Although if I get bored, I sometimes switch over to DB or DDB for awhile.
