Late flight... PH late checkout or another night?

We have booked Planet Hollywood (myself, hubby and 2 adult kids 21+) for Nov 25-Dec 2. We ended up booking a later flight out the night of the 2nd because the afternoon one suddenly went up $100/ticket. Our flight leaves at 9:10pm. My question is, do we ask for late checkout with the hotel (when do you do that also, now or closer to our trip?) or do we just book another night and stay in our room to rest/relax until we have to leave for the airport around 6ish. I realize we could check out and leave our luggage with the hotel but I'm thinking we will be sick of Vegas by then and will just want to chillax in our room. It's also possible daughter will have to fly out earlier that day (we have not booked her airfare yet) so she may have to Uber to the airport on her own. FYI, we are flying in and out of Everett (Paine Field), WA and daughter will be flying in and out of Seatac. (not sure if that matters)

    Option A: late checkout
Option B: spring for an additional night, which you won't fully use, because you're actually leaving for the airport around sixish?

That's a tough call...as it is one of those time v. money situations. If it were me? I'd just ask for the late check out (not sure if there's a fee for that or not) rather than spring for room. Then again, few things in life are as boring as hanging around Vegas, just waiting to leave, when you've had your fill of the place. Which do you value more...the cost of the room, which would let you relax or saving the money and just finding some place to cool your jets for multiple hours? As for when to arrange the late checkout, just do it when you check in.

I tend to agree with @deansrobinson, this is a really tough call. I lean towards checking out. If I were solo I'd probably check out, drop my bags at the bell desk, and enjoy the day. Maybe get a pass to the spa to hit the sauna and shower before heading to the airport.

Late checkouts past Noon or 1:00 PM can sometimes be tough to get or they are expensive. How much is the extra day?

I usually do a late checkout....check my bags at bell desk...and hit the BJ tables. But I also am never sick of Vegas at time to leave!

Tough choice. I have booked an extra night on late checkout, but it depends on the cost.

One possible problem with late checkout, some hotels won't let you add it until the day of checkout without a host.

We do MLIFE, so I am not sure with CET, but sometimes mlife let's you add it at booking, sometimes not. I can't tell you how many times when I try to add it upon check-in, (or when booking the reservation on the phone) I have been told they can't do it, that I have to call the morning of checkout. (Even with paying late checkout!)

It could be an mlife thing, or maybe I'm just lucky, but this is something to ask, if you can add it ahead of time.

Good luck, and I hope you have an amazing trip!

We stay at CET properties. In the past, we've booked the room for the night of the day we were leaving. But our rooms are comp'd, this never effected our offers or comps because of our play, and we drive to and from Phoenix, so can leave whenever feel like it.

We've recently been able to get a late checkout time of 4pm. We've never asked for later, the 4pm was offered when we asked for late checkout. But again, we're comp'd, we're Diamond, and that probably plays into it.

You might be able to get a late checkout of around 6pm for a lesser charge than booking the room for the extra night. If you plan on giving them some decent play, they may comp a late checkout. Even if you got a 4pm checkout for no charge, you could check your bags, take your time getting something to eat, maybe play a bit, and the time before you'd have to leave for the airport would fly by.

I was doing late checkout at PH when we were there last week.
Because we were diamond, they gave us a late checkout till 2.
They did have an option for later, but at a cost.
I have also done an extra day on a comp and just leave early for a late flight. They dont really care i think.

You may have trouble with both options as something seems to be going on that week. Not signed in, the room rates are 2-3x the rate from either the week before or the week after. Booking the extra day looks expensive and it is probably busy so you may not get the option of late check out.

Did not see if you are comped or paying. Gonna guess you are paying. Any maybe low status? (zero trips to vegas in profile - just a guess)

If they are indeed busy and high rates, you may have to just do the checkout thing.... might be able to get 1:00 with a call, but would not count on it.

So, couple things here. First, are you Diamond or 7 Stars with CET? That MAY give you a slight advantage on a later checkout. I wouldn't pay for an entire extra day (plus possible resort fees) for a few hours.
Next, like you said you could just checkout and leave your bags. Use that time to leisurely eat, maybe do some last minute shopping or visiting a casino you didn't make it to.

I’ve asked a host for a 6pm check out before and it was granted at PH when I told them I had flight out that night. Before they saw that on the notes at check in, they asked me if I wanted a 2pm checkout. YMMV, but it’s possible and the couple extra hours could help.

Thanks for all the info. Yes, this is our first trip to Vegas for any of us. No points, no club benefits and we really don't gamble either. We'll be joining CET (I have a member number but still need to officially register). Yes, it does appear something is going on the first week of Dec as an extra night is well over $100. Not sure what we'll want to do. I don't know if I want to rely on "possibly" getting a late check out by asking once we get there. We are planners and like to have things set well ahead of time. Going to a spa and showering later is not really an option, dealing with extra clothes, hair dryer, curling iron, makeup after we've checked out of our room? Too complicated. We are newbies and are going to be there with other family who are staying at the Elara (they live in CA and have been to Vegas several times) but they are leaving Saturday and we will be there 2 extra nights. Maybe we can check out of the room, ask them to store our luggage and go to a movie if one is close by. When would you head for the airport if your flight leaves at 9:10pm? Is 6 too early?

Also, I think I read in a thread about Planet Hollywood that their fridges are usable and not just a place for the hotel to store over-priced stuff that if you move you'll be charged for regardless of whether you drink/eat the item? We'd like to get a fridge for the room, I mentioned it in the notes when I booked it but there's nothing in my reservation saying we'd like a mini-fridge. Assuming this is something I should call and ask the hotel about to make sure we get one? It says fridges are located in rooms on Diamond floors, whatever that means. Do I have to be a Diamond member?

Another question (sorry). I've noticed that prices have changed (dropped) since I booked, about $100-200 for the whole stay. If I re-book and cancel our existing reservation (we have free cancellation), will they also refund our deposit? (and then recharge a new one) Or will I lose that deposit? (sorry if the question is dumb)

There was a fridge in the room I was in but I am diamond and I believe they may only be on the diamond floors. Usually you can ask for one but unless it is for medicine they will probably charge for it.

If you can get the extra day for an extra $100 (I was seeing about $200 plus resort fee) and can rebook the existing reservation for $100-$200 less, then I would rebook with the extra night and you will be about the same cost as your original booking. They will refund you the deposit. If you booked it directly with CET you could just call them and have them adjust out the price and get the extra night if you still want it.

Late check out if you can... that will cost as much as a resort fee for another night..

We have control over our Vegas comings and goings, but we face this often in other locales. We check out, load up the rental and go sightseeing. Or we play golf. Or we go to the spa. Or ... If not going that far afield, check out, plant your gear with the bell desk and do what you'd normally do on a Vegas afternoon. You're not exactly talking an extended period of time and it's not an oh-dark-30 departure time.

We have a similar situation with our trip in two weeks to Mirage - our flight to our next destination leaves Vegas at 1am - so we decided to keep our room for the extra night as opposed to having to check out at noon and then leave our bags at the bell desk all day. For us, we'll probably relax in the room and have a shower before we leave on our last night.

Since this is the first visit for any member of the OP clan, I cannot imagine getting tired of Vegas and just vegging in the room. There is a lot of different things in Vegas to do and see. You can certainly plan lower key events that last day out of the room.

I lean towards booking an extra night mainly since it is a night on Dec 2nd (a weekday) and the room should be relatively cheap. I always do that for any flight that leaves after 9 pm. Late checkouts usually are only granted if you have status, 1 pm for platinum, 2 pm for diamond, 4 pm for seven star. If you don't have status with CET, usually they only give you 12 noon. You have to ask for a late check out when you check in or on the day you are leaving.

That being said, you are really fine either way. There is plenty to do in Vegas from the 11 am checkout till when you need to catch a flight and you can just schedule a bunch of touristy stuff.

I do not think I would pay for another night, just for the afternoon. If a midnight flight, probably. But since they will head to the airport around 6-7pm, nope.

Leave bags and enjoy a bit more of the strip. Wander to casinos you have not been to yet - there will be plenty.

Heading to airport at 7 will be fine, 6 if you want LOTS of extra time there. I would plan on a late afternoon dinner somewhere on the strip. Check out the happy hour posting if you are drinkers.

As to rates changing - if booked direct with hotel, yes... call in and get it changed. If with a 3rd party.. maybe.
