I just moved to Vegas a month ago. My niece and her 12 year old daughter are coming to spend a week with me in August. My niece and I would like to do a little gambling using coupons from the ACG and LVA books. I have never been to Jerry's Nugget. I know it's not in the nicest part of town. I'm thinking of going there on a Sunday afternoon to eat at the diner and while eating, my niece and I could take turns going out into the casino and playing our coupons, and one of us would be with her daughter at all times. Is the neighborhood one to totally avoid or can we go to Jerry's without worry?

My take would be daytime only.
There's a large open area next door that when we went must have had 200 homeless people living in tents. If that doesnt bother you then I dont think you'd have an issue. This was last march so may have changed I'm sure others have been a lot more recently.
I've been a bit hard on jerry's nugget but its not that bad. They made me mad when they told me I couldnt vape in the bingo hall non smoking seats but had the doors propped open and clouds of smoke were coming in from the casino lol.
I havent eaten there but hear the food is good. Also didnt play much besides bingo but being north las vegas and a locals place you are probably going to get some of the best payouts in town. Of course ymmv. :)
    Anyways good luck.

The place is fine. Gambling is good and food is really good. I would recommend daytime as well.

I've been to Jerry's Nugget a dozen times. Never noticed the tent camp.
Jerry's Nugget is a regular casino. Nice. Not sleazy or dirty. No problem taking a teen there to eat and walk around. I don't think there is anything worth seeing that you would want to walk around outside. It seems to me that it's a cement and road area. Not necessarily fun for a teen, but not dangerous. I only make N Vegas trips during the day and find the neighborhood around Jerry's Nugget to be fine. Traveling there at night is one precaution that I've adhered to. I don't go after dark and so can't say how the neighborhood conditions are at that time.
The other casinos, Silver Nugget, Big Horn, Poker Palace, etc, are dirty sleazy. Jerry's Nugget is fine.

    It's a fun place.

The neighborhood is iffy but the casino and parking lot are safe. Just don't go exploring the neighborhood!

    The prime rib is excellent!

The tent camp is over around Foremaster. You see it if you take Main or LVB.

Tent city has been shut down but it did used to be there. It is still the nearest casino to the homeless shelter and so has a lot of homeless issues. They do have pretty good security though and you would be fine in the daytime. I’d go during the daytime to Jerry’s with no issue.

Jerry's Nugget is ahhhhhight… nothing special, but it's not a dump either. Older, value-driven folks seem to enjoy it. As stated above, the Prime Rib is REALLY good there. I'm not sure I'd wow an outta town guest there, but if you've got some coupons... knock yourself out, you'll have a fun time.

Their new member promotion is good too. If you can get some play in it's not hard to get that $100 in FP. I actually did all mine on slots and came out $300 ahead playing old IGT machines.

    Jerry's Nugget
    50 points $5 Comp
    100 points T Shirt
    250 points $20 Comp
    500 points $40 Dining

I just went there for the first time in May. I was forewarned about the area. Honestly, and also according to my Lyft driver, the area was fine. The only thing remotely questionable is that there is a strip club across the street. I spotted no homeless or encampments of any kind. This was travel from the Plaza to Jerry's. There were no weirdos (except maybe me) in the casino itself. Enjoyed a wonderful meal at the cafe and had no problem getting all of my comps/perks from the New Player offer that @nfajgmbr03 mentioned. VP paytables could've been better for my game DB, but other than that...

One person's questionable is another person's ASSet. LOL! Enjoy!

I've been in my share of strip clubs and find them fascinating. My hubs is super cheap and doesn't see the thrill in it. I used to go with my old boss. He was a $10k per night kind of guy. I loved to just sit back and watch so many "girls" kiss his ass to get his $$. Laughable. As if.

Never been but the 1st time bonuses are very enticing. Can the comp credits used for free play?

    Nfaj.....

Thanks for the list of goodies that first time players get!

I am uncertain about the difference between a comp and a dining credit.
Can I take a $5 comp and get $5 off on a $15 meal at their diner?

Check it out yourself before they arrive. Have a meal. Maybe sign up for a card and get your freebies to use when they are in town.

The comps are actually for the gift shop. Nothing worthwhile, just junk. The free play and food are worth it though.
