… except it was like pulling teeth to find this out. Man it’s impossible to get a straight answer in writing out of anyone in hospitality these days!

I bought a ticket to Zumanity for my upcoming trip, and I chose Ticketmaster’s “print at home” option since… well… ain’t nobody got time to wait in line at the box office.

I got a PDF emailed to me and I figured that I should be able to show the PDF on my phone (after all, a barcode is a barcode, right?). Though I have heard stories of people having electronic versions of things rejected, with a requirement to have it printed out. As usual, I wanted to get a firm answer, and I wanted to get it in writing, so I contacted NYNY on Facebook messenger.

From this, I’m sure you can see my frustration… THREE times I had to ask the same question to get an answer, and the second time I had to nudge them to get back to me.

My purpose in posting this is 90% to tell you all “Yes, you can show PDF tickets on your phone at NYNY, no need to bring them out”, and 10% to show you the sad state of communications. I really don’t think I could have phrased my first question any more clearly.

With Ticketmaster you also usually can "go mobile" which is a PDF of the ticket that can be accessed with the TM app on your phone and then downloaded on to your phone's wallet google pay apple pay.

The last few concerts/shows I went to (here in NY) were mobile only, no printed tickets accepted

If you selected "print at home". why wouldn't you just PRINT at home!

    1. I don’t own a printer

    2. I’d rather not have to carry a paper document around with me, when a digital version on my phone will logically suffice

    3. The only two options were “print at home” and “will call”, and it’s slightly less hassle to get someone to print something out for me (in the worst case scenario where I’d need to actually print it out), than to have to wait in line at a box office

I’ve never printed them out for any show that I have attended and they just scan the barcode on your phone. (Cirque Du Soleil shows, Absinthe, Comedy shows at the Mirage)

Most 26 year olds don’t have a reason to print anything these days. I actually don’t know anyone my age who has a printer.

And driving... that’s just Toronto for ya. Decent public transit, expensive gas, expensive insurance, I was socialized to view driving as a luxury, not a common thing.

Though since I don’t watch anything on Netflix, perhaps I should get fitted for a monk’s tunic. I wonder how that would look with my cowboy hat :)

Not sure it's an age thing but, hey, if you never waited for that kraft-paper-wrapped girlie mag to show up in the mailbox it might be understandable!

    The what now?

Yeah, no, when one of my friends from summer camp sent me a link to a porn website on MSN messenger when I was 12, that’s how I was first exposed to that stuff.

I don’t think I’ve even HELD a girlie mag. I’ve seen them in magazine racks, but I don’t think I’ve ever physically handled one.

Maybe I am old. I printed out quite a bit of stuff tonight. I made some certificates for a fundraiser. Printed a recipe as it is less costly to spill dinner ingredients on a piece of paper than the laptop. I even print cue sheets on some rides because when we get out into the hills, well, RideWithGPS doesn't always have connectivity.

But porn IS way better online. ;)

My kids are NFC's age and neither one has a printer.

I assume if my son or daughter EVER had a need for a print out, they would visit a friend, print at work or use an internet cafe. I'm sure they must be ahead of the game dollar wise.

But myself, I couldn't live without one. I'm old and can't figure out my phone!

    Recipe. What's that?

You don't have a youtube recipe that condenses an hour long prep time into one minute of directions and ingredients, like those Tasty recipes people post on facebook?

    For example, this one:

Lots of younger (20-40 yr olds) do not have printers. Many have had them in the past, but with such low use, the ink dries up and they toss another one. And do not bother to replace. Everything they need is on the phone.

Personally I have a laser in my home office... but I am old.

I tried and failed to connect my antique printer to my laptop after the old desktop went casters up. This was more than 3 years ago and haven't had a printer at home since. I have had a requirement to print a document exactly once since.

I believe in utility. Apps and iOS and MacBook for this stuff, old school for other stuff. I still prefer a newspaper on, you know, newsprint, but can't get the Times here so that one is online. The WSJ on the other hand shows up in the mail, only a few hours "late," so that's a different kind of handheld device ... my hands. Boarding passes go on my phone but we print out bag tags for Alaska at home and just drop and go at the airport. I use paper maps to imagine out road trips and keep the appropriate ones in the car for the rare times when nav on the phone might be sketchy. Etc.

It's been fun the past week or so as my mother-in-law has her first iPhone. She's into it. She's already telling me stuff I didn't know.

Not sure I'm in the...um...quite as young category, but the only reason I have a printer is I'm taking classes and for whatever reason I occasionally get a professor that wants a printed copy of a paper. Which is so odd. Other than that, no reason to have a printer at all.

Can you just print out whatever you need at the school’s library? That’s what I did in university.

Nope. They have these pain in the ass print stations that charge x amount per page. They almost never work. And I don't really print at work since they track who prints what, when, how much, and how often. So was easier to get a cheap printer and do it at home.
