Here is the rail schedule between Philadelphia’s 30th Street Station to Atlantic City, service starts Sunday.

    https://www.njtransit.com/pdf/rail/upcoming/R0090.pdf

One way fare is $ 10.75 and the reduced fare is $4.90 if you’re 62 or older, disabled, or military and dependents.

Because I live so close I never consider the train. I didn’t realize it ran so many times every day from 30th street to AC. How much is uber or lyft from the philly airport to 30th street?

SO glad to see the train coming back. Taking Greyhound from DC to AC is a pain in the ass. I much prefer Amtrak to 30th St then train to AC. Much more pleasant.

That train is very easy to take from the airport to 30th Street. Not a bad ride at all.

I just checked Uber X, it was $22. Uber share is even less. For a party of 2, it might make sense instead of waiting for the once every half hour airport train. But the best part of the airport train is there are only 2 stops and it’s just 23 minutes to 30th St.

Hallelujah sweet deity in heaven or wherever he/she/it resides! Train from DC-AC rules. Driving from DC-AC sucks. Bus from DC-AC is a hate crime.

Driving anywhere between Stafford, VA and Wilmington, DE is a white knuckle experience and has reduced me to thumb sucking in the fetal position. And I drove about 40,000 miles a year for 15 years, a lot of it being in the North Jersey/NY region.

I took that train over Labor Day weekend 2018 (this was before it shut down for repairs). It was an easy trip on the way there. On the way back, the train got stuck a couple stops away from 30th St Station because a bridge ahead was malfunctioning. I ended up getting off at that station and Ubering to PHL. Womp womp. Hopefully the bridge was part of the repair.

Never been to AC so was wondering where in AC does the train drop you off and what transportation do you use to get to Harrahs or other casinos.

The train drops you at the convention center. 4 city blocks from Caesars and the boardwalk. To get to harrahs you would take a cab/Lyft/Uber( about $15 after tip).

Thanks Wallew and Shock ...looks like later this year I'm flying to Philly and going to AC for the first time. The VMB people are the best.

If you are referring to the old jitney's you could take to the casino's from the train station for free they are gone. There are still jitney's but it is a short walk now. I just walked my fat ass to Caesar's and took the CET bus from there.

I think the jitney will be around forever. It is like $2 to ride anywhere in the city currently.

AC just seems like such a hassle to get to from anywhere. I have never gone and it is in my list but, door to door Vegas is quicker with transfers and such. If if 3-4 days, I’m off to Vegas. Perhaps we will drive. I’m guessing 6-7 hours from buffalo ???

I will be going to AC in August. I'm seriously considering taking the train. Have driven many times from VA but it is a looong drive and 95 can be a pia! Especially if it's raining. And then there's the tolls . . .

I just calculated the tolls, it’s about $22 each way starting with the Baltimore Tunnel, not counting the “fast lanes”. Plus fuel and aggravation.

I'm not sure quite where you are coming from but as far as driving from buffalo you're looking at 7 in perfect conditions... there are rarely perfect conditions so figure with stops probably 9 door to door. If you're looking to make an extended trip you could easily do a couple nights in philly and then train to ac for a few nights as well. Depending on what you like to do there are a ton of great ways to make AC part of a bigger vacation.

As to flying you could fly buffalo to PHL nonstop (showing 353 R/t) then train the rest of the way. Trains in Philly are super easy it goes airport to 30th st which is the main station and then 30th st to AC.

I would say unless you have a nonstop flight from your home airport to LAS, traveling to AC via Philly is not any harder than traveling to Vegas. Time wise it's about a 1 hour flight to PHL then about 2 hours for trains. I'm not sure how you're getting quicker to vegas out of buffalo since it's almost a 5 hour non-stop flight. The train to 30th st runs every 30 minutes. And there are 10 trains daily to AC.

We are actually debating driving to Philly and taking the train on our next trip to avoid shore traffic.

Not trying to lump you together with those from La Belle Province, but the South Jersey beaches, especially Wildwood Crest, were once the bastion of refuge for Canadian tourists. Back in the 1970’s, the beaches were over-run by French speaking men with beer bellies wearing banana hammocks. There are some Bed and Breakfast places in the AC area, maybe do a trade for Niagara on the Lake? It’s about a 8 hour drive, but the trip through NY and Pennsylvania is really nice.
