Casinos off the beaten path

How smoky is their bingo room?

 

Not terrible if you are close to the doors. Southpoint is better for smoke.

The ceiling is high in both rooms and SP is bigger.

 

We have been to Alamo casino at least 4 times. The staff are lovely. We originally visited to redeem a MRB coupon, but once we joined the club (to play the coupon) we got $10 free play and a match play if I remember correctly. Played the free play. Had to go back later to use the coupon. Next visit, to redeem a coupon. They gave us another $10 each for being a return customer. Had to go back again to redeem the coupon.

The staff in that little place were lovely and they deserve a bit of business. We do long trips to Vegas and these excursions are a nice change from the usual casinos. We have been back without a coupon just to play a little on the way to Silverton.

 

Pebbles I am glad you liked my Alamo suggestion. Nice little place for blackjack and slots and nice friendly staff.

 

It might be fun to take a 3 day trip just to visit all these off the beaten trail casinos. You could likely even pay for cheap rooms and not affect your comp status.

 

Drove out for a couple myvegas rewards back in the day. They have a really nice little buffet. Played craps for a hour or so. And collected a couple chips. Played some VP and slots a few more hours and left. Been sending emails for 2 free nights ever since

 

I think it was Rodney Dangerfield who said "my wife sent me to the grocery store while we were in Vegas and it cost me $400.00 for a dozen eggs, a loaf of bread and milk.

Silverton is great. I have not made it to Aliente yet, but it looks beautiful. I guess it is so off the beaten path, we haven't gotten there yet!

 

I respectfully disagree. I'm not in a hurry to get back to Jean/Primm but I had fun doing it once just to say I did. You can top it off with lunch at The Pioneer Saloon in Goodsprings if you are feeling really adventurous.

Primm wasn't empty by any stretch. We were there probably around noon on a Sunday and all of the games were open and plenty of people playing them.

Jean was pretty dead but it's still worth checking it out. Odds are the casino in Jean won't be long for this world so you might as well check it out while you can.

Trying new things as opposed to just following your usual well worn path makes the trip seem longer.

Another recommendation is to hit up Railroad Pass and Hoover Dam Lodge on the way to the Hoover Dam. Once again, it's good for a short day trip.

 

If I remember correctly, the team was called the Las Vegas Aces. Think it was a semi-pro team. A salesman who worked with us at FHP Healthcare was on the team. A bunch of us from the office went to about half of their games, had some beers and hot dogs. Good bonding with my co-workers.

 

Yep, Jean is not a needed stop, unless someone has a punchcard and is trying to hit every casino in Clark County.

 

JR used to work at Sunset Station back in 2000 something. Last year we decided to stop by and look around just for fun. I really liked it in there and the video poker pay tables were not the kind you see on the strip. Interior of the main casino area very cool.

 

With so many folks ruing the onelookification of the Strip, get out to some of the locals joints. Now some have been, well, dumbed down since the heyday -- looking at you, Fiesta Rancho -- but many great and diverse looks remain. Silverton, M, RRR and GVR, Aliante, the aforementioned Sunset Station, to name some.

Alamo is very underrated

 

Well at least we agree on Goodsprings and Railroad Pass. Jean is a total waste in my opinion.

I had to look up "onelookification" but I think I got it.

Jean was pretty fun about 20 years ago, back when they had $2 blackjack and a good prime rib special, and there were 2 casinos, the Gold strike and the Nevada landing, which looked different on the outside but exactly the same inside, and I used to forget which one i was in. The Nevada landing is no longer there; it appears to have been lifted whole into outer space by aliens.

I stopped at the Gold spike a couple years ago to use the restroom and the casino was undergoing renovation. The floor was completely empty except for about 3 slot machines and it was quite surreal.

Now there's a giant gas station on the Nevada landing side that is something to behold if you are passing through. 96 pumps! Like a bucees in Texas.

 

That is one big station, indeed.

 

It turns out that the very first slot machine I ever played (and won on) was in Jean, driving to LV from El Lay. (If anyone cares, the first win was a cherry in the third reel!)

 

Is Jerry's Nugget very large? I've emailed to find out exactly what the new player sign up is exactly, but haven't heard back. I am considering a looksee during my trip in May. From what I'm reading this should be a daytime only excursion. Will any Ride Shares go there do you think?
