Plan to pick up extra cash at a local branch the next time I'm in Vegas.

But I can't find any details on withdrawal limits except for ATM's. It won't be my local branch, so I assume that will be suspicious. And then it's a very large withdrawal, so now extra sketchy.

Has anyone ever run into a limit when they've tried to get cash @ a branch? (Chase)

I know you can put a vacation alert on your account, but can you also put like a "I'm gonna make it rain! :woohoo:" alert on there? I want to minimize my hassle time at the Vegas branch.

Also, this is the only govt regulation I know about regarding large transactions. Mine will be under this limit. Anything else I need to be worried about? I don't want the government putting me on some special list (no I'm not paranoid).

Um, you might be just a teeny bit paranoid... its Vegas, and it's a bank branch, and you will be under the "limit".

I'd be more concerned about getting that much cash safely from the bank to your hotel room safe, like if you're gonna call an Uber to pick you up there.

Do you have a contact at your local Chase Bank who you call or stop by and ask? That would be the best way to find out. I also do my banking with Chase, but I've never made a huge withdraw while in Vegas. At my local Chase, a supervisor usually has to approve withdraws starting from $2000. That happens every time I withdraw funds for my Vegas trip.

I'm paranoid enough not to get in a car driven by some rando. ;) Good point though, safety first.

Well, I thought asking sketchy questions might be another way to get me on "the list" :) But if someone on this here internet doesn't know, then yeah, I'll ask at a local branch. (Also, did try internet searches before I posted my question, just found the ATM limits)

In branch? With ID? You could close the account out. A branch is a branch is a branch.

I've taken more than that out in one visit at the Citi branch on Paradise. I also have made deposits more than that amount when I had a great day. :lock: The tellers there know me well as I try hard to not bring an ATM card to Vegas so that if I need more money I need to make the trek to the bank and if I arrive in Vegas during the day, I have the Wynncore driver stop at the bank en route from the airport to the hotel so I can withdraw my BR for the trip, which for 10-12 days is more than 10k.

Believe me, they get withdrawals that are MANY multiples of 10k. (Think about whales who may want to deal with a branch rather than say a credit line at a casino.) It may be unusual for other branches but not for that branch as it is, well, in Vegas. If you wanted to withdraw say $30k+, it would be preferred I believe if you called the bank the day before to let them know you want to do that, more as a courtesy. The money will be there but I remember a teller telling me that. I have never done that but I remember having a conversation with a teller related to your question.

But, if more than 10k and it is your first time, I am pretty sure you will be asked to tell them your occupation, etc., which is for fed record keeping purposes. Not a problem.

I’ve requested cash withdrawals as high as $8,000. It’s not a problem (legally) but many times the branch doesn’t have that much money. They tend to be careful about “ordering money” so a big withdrawal causes issues. So sometimes I need to schedule the withdrawal and come in the next day.

As a result of this, I wired money to the casino on my last trip and it worked well. I’ll definitely do that on future visits. You will need to bring the cash home though. They can wire it back to your bank but that’s a paperwork nightmare.

You have identification, you have adequate funds in your account, to verify your identity they can phone your branch manager. I think your biggest worry would be losing the large withdrawal at the casinos gambling, NOT making the withdrawal at the bank.

Just wire the $ to the casino you’re staying at.
And oh.....you’re already on a government list.

There's no legal prohibition on how much you can withdraw. But as other have mentioned, the bank may not have sufficient cash on hand t pay you in cash. I used to have some clients that I knew would want cash for their settlements following a case. So I would always give the bank a few days advance notice if I thought a client would be bringing by a check of 10k or more to cash

I did not see any indication of "how much" the OP is looking to withdraw. Probably does not matter anyway.

As to using Uber - why would that be a concern? Is there a regular history of uber drivers robbing their customers? You might want to walk 2 doors down from the bank to call the Uber if you want to remove the "bank" from the picture.

People walk around Vegas with thousands in their pocket often. Not like bad guys know who has all that money and who has $1 in their pocket, right?

As to government list - can not see anything that would be of concern -other than a list of people that are willing to donate all their money to a casino -LOL! (pretty sure I am on that list)

Did some reading, a teller can also report a withdrawl that is over $2000 if they feel it is suspicious in nature. I am guessing that means you never withdrawl money and then you take a large sum out or you have a "friend" with you. I don't think that would come into play in Las Vegas as there are probably many large withdrawls at bank branches on a daily basis.

I agree a heads up to the bank may make things move along a little faster as they may have the money ready for you.

And who cares if it’s “suspicious”. It’s still not illegal. A CTR is filed and that’s it. Assuming you’ve acquired your money legally there’s nothing to worry about. While I agree I shouldn’t be any of their business, it really is a non issue.

Minimizing the time & hassle of a large withdrawal I get. Worrying about getting red flagged by the feds, I don't.

What if you just landed on a list because you asked about landing on a list on a public message board??

I suspect we're all on more lists than we can imagine. I wouldn't lose any sleep over this.

You should be fine. If you are worried, then simply call your bank's customer service and put in a travel alert and let them know you are going to be making large withdrawals from Vegas. The government will not care, even if you go over $10,000 and they track the transaction through a CTR. Enjoy yourself in Vegas.

Remember it's Vegas, lots of people do larger than normal withdrawals and deposits there. Last year I had a winning trip and I had a limo to the
airport. Not the way my limo pulled uno in front of the Chase branch on East Flamingo. Believe me I got some interesting looks. I deposited more than $10K and there was no issue whats ever. I've also done withdrawals with no issues.

I now have a Line Of Credit and I normally just do deposits. It's much easier if you go at least once a year.
