I have seen too many movies where similar experiences happen. I have nightmares of being penniless in Vegas (also, of being sick and alone), so I do my best to avoid a situation like that. I go well prepared with a bankroll always larger than what I intend to play. It has worked.

Not yet in Vegas. I take about double the cash I intend to spend, plus have an ATM card that I have never used. I also have some card from the casino that allows you to write a check, but I haven't used that either. Be my luck I try it someday and doesn't work. However, years back on bus trips to my local I used to spend every last cent I had, down to the change that accumulated in the bottom of my purse. There used to be a Goodwill not far from there so I'd walk over and search for treasures or go to the neighboring brewpub for fries and an ale. It was okay to use my debit card for purchases, but I refused to take cash.

The worst trip money wise was through no fault of my own. Seriously.

I met friends in Vegas for a few days before Christmas. That was the year of the snow in Vegas and everywhere else. Flights were cancelled home. My budget for 3 nights was not meant for 10. Gulp. Harrah's desk people there were fantastic. The arranged an amazing rate, something like $35 (no resort fee) per night, and I was virtually not gambling.

I love Vegas at Christmas, but I'll never go again.

I've come close a few times on my earlier trips but I've since learned to just bring way more than I need. Far better to have and not need than to need and not have.

Have done a couple times, but never a problem.

Usually just use the cash I have to pay for the room, and charge it to my card.

Once I borrowed a few grand off one of the lads I was there with, and just gave him £ when we were next at a poker tournament in the UK.

I have never totally run out of money but there were some trips where I just got tired of losing. Those times I played but kept on losing so the last day or two I just stopped gambling and walked around the strip and downtown or went to the shopping mall.

Once I burned through my bankroll and took $600 out of the ATM. As self punishment I sold one of my WWII rifles from my gun collection to put the money back into the bank. Sure do miss that British 303 Jungle Carbine which I bought unused while in college.

I never walk away a loser. Dont get me wrong, I am not some magic gambler, I just take it personal when i lose. Also I never let my current gambling fund go to zero.

Like if I put a $20 in a slot machine, i will not let it zero out, I will stop before it does. Its a mental thing, if you let it zero out you walk away a loser and no amount of beer drinking can overcome that loser feeling that gnaws away at you. I avoid this by simply stopping a bit before this happens.

Its a pendulum thing, You know when it is not swinging in your favor, Thats a good time to go walk around, check out some sights, whatever,. If you dont, you know it will result in that frustrating loss.

Lol,, that's a funny vegas story! frankr163...all are good stories, but when it's happening in Vegas to you or your significant other and you can't stop the bleeding, all you're thinking about is to get home to your normal life. Every vegas Gambler experiences it once or twice

I haven’t run out, but I’ve spent way more than I meant to and probably wish I had. That was on my first trip, black out drunk, limos I couldn’t remember, woke up in the ‘wrong’ bed, got run off the tables at MGM. This was all at the start of a 6 week trip to the US so it put a pretty decent hole in my holiday budget. Luckily swine flu got me a few weeks in and put me in bed and away from spending any more money.

These days I’m kinda at the point where my budget exceeds practical cash withdrawal so next time I’m just going to front it to the cage I think (live overseas so can’t go to a branch), I think in reality it’ll be better for budgeting as I’ll have no option when it’s gone if I don’t have my atm card.

Didn't run out but was close.

My last trip this August. Thought to myself I had it figured out lol.

Took $500 cash for food / incidentals, another few $k in my UK travel account and a CC for hotel holds etc .

My thinking was to find a free ATM or swallow the ATM fees daily. With free international withdrawals I should still be up on our rubbish exchange rate at the moment as opposed to changing cash before I left.
$700 a day gambling budget.. lift that, card back in safe and enjoy the day.

Nope.. for some reason I couldn't lift more than $350 per day from an ATM so had to get a withdrawal at the cage. With the fees there was no point only lifting a few hundred so lifted more than I should have.

Cash in my pocket / beers in my belly is not a good combination. :D

Had to transfer cash from another account twice :O

Next trip I'm taking cash. :D

I only take $3K with me for 2 weeks trips. I do have $25K available to me in markers, but if I used all of that I believe a firing squad would be ready to great me when I got home. Some trips I do run out of my cash...well, my initial cash. So, I always have some cash in my pocket even if it's part of a left over marker.
I pass the time by driving around the valley and to full day trips of exploring that are interesting and give me another perspective on Las Vegas. But, I always have a car when in Vegas. I can't see staying there without one. Renting a car is the first thing I do when booking a trip...right at the same time as booking my flight.

I've had to hit th atm on two trips, but thankfully it's been a few years. I haven't won but I've been pretty close to breaking even the last few trips which was a nice change haha

She hit the ATMs every time I wasn’t looking!
