Anyone able to recommemd (or not recommend) a host at this property? I have a host in Vegas but first time playing here in years and I want to establish with one.

I was just there last weekend. Can't help with a host though. If my play made it to the level that might get the attention of one (and I'm not sure it did) then last weekend would have been the first time.

I live three hours from there and was wondering how gambling is ( slots and tables) and also have you been to Louisiana Downs since close and can use my total rewards cards?? Thanks!

I've found the slots at Horseshoe to be about as tight as most of the nicer LA casinos (Margaritaville, El Dorado, L'Aberge, Golden Nugget). Anecdotally until this trip my luck was pretty bad at horseshoe in either Slots or VP. Sometimes I could make my budget last a while but usually it wen't fairly quick. This last trip though a few weeks ago I found that on Thursday night and Friday morning I couldn't loose. Then Friday night and Saturday I couldn't win :(

I will say this for VP that I've meant to start a thread on but will give the short version here: I ran into a person who based on his claims is a serious advantage VP player while I was playing in the high limit room. Several staff members came to either check on, service, or talk to him. He was basically telling me how they were lowering the pay tables on all the good VP machines and that it was probably because of him. He and I were playing on the only two working machines on the bank of VP machines in the HL room and he said the others were down because they were changing the pay tables. I could tell he wasn't completely full of it because the machine he was playing on they took out of service for him whenever he wanted to step away from it (even for extended periods of time). He told me that the manager (don't remember his title for sure) came and gave him a heads up that they were going to do it and apologized for having to. The guy told me he'd won 24 royals so far this year and also won one of the trucks they gave away. I also noticed several other banks of VP machines being taken down in other parts of the casino during the weekend.

I can't speak for Louisiana Downs as I haven't made it there yet.

Harrah's Lousiana Downs is slots only. No VP or tables. They do serve a great Cheesecake with Jack Daniels sauce at the cafe.

This is good to know. My host left a while back and they assigned her to me.

Although, I haven't been back since that happened to see her, as I started going to GN Lake Charles and I am being taken care of very well there. And shorter drive from Houston.

The note about horseshoe vp going down would keep me from going there much in the future. They had full pay BP. I guess I will check vpfree before any trips.

How to you feel about the VP at GN? Houston here also and I've found the VP at GN to be abysmal.

In the old days when Jack binnions lived on the property, the hit show was the best. It was the golden age of slots and comps. Now I am looking to move to the gn. Any advice?

I play 9/6/4 DDB at the $1 and $2 levels. The $2 level is at the high limit bar. $1 is out on the floor.

So, not full pay VP, but great food options and stores for my comps. Nice rooms. And only 2.5 hours vs 4 to bossier. I get more free play, but I have to use it for slots. I have become a top dollar whore. And I have gotten pretty lucky converting that to real money.
