For those who want to walk from Sam's Town to WalMart, Please be aware that you are crossing a very busy street with many lanes, Boulder Highway. Then, you are crossing a very large Walmart parking lot. It's hot out there.

Or, If you are crossing to Walgreens, you are crossing Flamingo Road.

    In both cases, Safety first.

When we first started staying there, I considered that Walgreens to be very handy. Easy walk from Sams Town if you needed something, and you didn't pay Strip prices.

Nowadays, it's become the Wino Walgreens annex! * Lotsa down-and-out characters lurking about the parking lot all times, day and night. I avoid going there alone anymore.

    * I've always referred to the Walgreens at Maryland and Flamingo as Wino Walgreens due to such characters in the lot for as long as I can remember.

We'll be giving Sam's Town a try for three nights in October. Funny, a few years ago I wouldn't have considered staying there. The clientele seemed ancient and there was little energy.

Perhaps we've worn out downtown. I almost feel I should ask some of the FSE "performing" regulars their names since we've seen them for so many years.
We know the strip isn't the place to go again since we spend most of our time gambling. Rates in mid-October are high (at least booking this early), but Sam's Town is comparatively reasonable. It'll be our first time staying at an outlying property. I'm curious and looking forward to it.

Sura, thanks for the info on the pool. We are okay with not a lot of sun at the pool (fair skinned folks here). I have seen some pictures of the pool from Trip Advisor and did notice that the 'bar' never seemed open. We will remember to bring our own drinks if we visit the pool.

I would not hesitate. This was our group's home casino for 4-5 trips a year back in the 90s. I'm planning a trip for August and plan to stay there for the first time in a while. The only reason I stopped was I'd been there so many times and like to try other places, especially back then. Rooms and rates are decent as are food options. The gamble is also acceptable and two other good sized casinos are nearby. Both self park and valet are quick in and out. They redid the sportsbook a while back and since I'm staying there definitely spend some time there. Give it a try, I think you'll like it.

    Good Luck!

I admit I have yet to try that one out, but I have stayed at AZ Charlie's which is in the same area - assuming that place is of equal, if not slightly lesser quality - you've got nothing to lose. A more residential side of Vegas might be interesting if that means anything to you.

I stayed at Sam's Town in March. The room was quite nice and it faced the atrium. As for noise it was nothing when you compare to the FSE crap that comes out of their speakers. You definitely have to be careful crossing the Boulder Highway. DMR the Walgreens isn't bad compared to the Rebel gas station. That's even worse. One afternoon I walked to the Boulder Station and back. It can be really shady between Arizona Charlie's and the Boulder Station. I had a couple of shady characters come out of the motel (forgot the name) and follow me for several blocks. I kept looking behind me and letting them know I see them. This was in the afternoon so if it was the evening it may have been worse.

ST gives a good value for your dollar. Plenty of machines there, table action available too but the sheer size of the place is very much like a strip casino. Also have a nice bowling alley and movie theater, TGI Fridays, and the lazer light/fountain show in the atrium. This is one of my favorite locals places and the east side cannery because they are the 2 of the only that gives me any comps or freeplay.

I spent two nights at Sam's Town on my first father / son trip to Vegas and I was pleasantly surprised. Lots of different machines and it was neat being able to pop to the movie theater one night when I was tired of gambling but not ready to call it a night.

we too have stayed at st many times but anyone who is planning/has a trip scheduled in the next 3-4 months I would advise to check out a recent review on tripadvisor.com.

I wasn't able to post the link but the header was:

“Major Renovations going on, but not mentioned on Sam's Town website or upon check in”

We visited ST for the first time in February. My wife liked it very much, especially because of the atrium. She could get out of the room, walk around and sit and read while I gambled, without leaving the hotel. We have stayed downtown, but she never felt safe leaving the casino, and thus was cooped up in the room if she was not gambling.

since posting on july 7, at least two more tripadvisor reviews mention ongoing construction/room remodeling at odd hours and an overall bad experience when trying to get some sleep/rest.
again we have stayed many times at st, and would be first to admit it is starting to show its age. it would be nice, however, for hotel to own up to ongoing construction issues.
only thing I could see under 'news' on its website was notice that upgrades possible to one of its newly, remodeled rooms.
how many rooms, how long this project will go one, apparently not for the public to know.

The one sleep issue I know of, and this happened before we started staying there, is when I borrowed a room to take a power nap in the afternoon. The "Roar" from the show woke me up, actually startled me, and I can normally sleep through almost anything. I always request a room that does not face the atrium because of this.

We are at ST now, checking out today and yes, room renovations are going on. It looks like floors 6 & 7 are being renovated. When we got here on Thursday morning at 8:30am, the front desk clerk gave us a room on the 9th floor, 913 to be exact, facing the strip, downtown, a clear view of Rebel Gas and Wino Walgreens dmr! This room has been renovated or more of a refresh but still nice. This particular floor and this room, the ceilings are easily 12ft! We do hear some construction noise but it is during the day. I actually have heard a little today but we have a floor between us. Just ask what floors are being renovated and make a request to stay away. One more thing, the 2nd floor I think has also been renovated.

in the past, the 9th floor was where the smoking rooms were located. Is that still the case? Just curious (the wife puffs away in Vegas, I know, I know a nasty habit).

9th floor seems to be non smoking. At least the room and wing we were on it was. I did not smell any kind of smoke.
