Parking question

Due to health problems, my wife and I haven't been to Las Vegas for over 5 years.

We understand that hotel/casinos now charge for self-parking. My questions:

1. Does every hotel now charge for self parking?
2. How much do they charge?
3. Is valet parking still available to everyone (not just hotel guests)? Is it still free, except for tip?

My wife is handicapped so parking is a big issue for us.

The link above has all the costs of parking on many properties however there are many properties that do not charge for parking nor do they charge Valet.

im not sure but Golden Nugget, El Cortez charge $10 for parking unless you are a certain level players card holder other then that i dont know.

 

Wynn will be charging for parking in a bit.

El Cortez you just show your player's card and they will let your park in their 2nd lot. The structure next to the casino is for the higher rollers and hotel guests.

Cal and MSS offered free parking for hotel guests. This was before their parking lot changes so I'm not sure how they handle parking for hotel guests. Since Rio was mentioned, the Gold Coast and Orleans don't charge for parking.

 

Planet Ho is flying under the radar. Their garage (shared with the mall) was free last April.

 

Yep, and two security officers were shot in the parking garage last night.

 

My husband is handicapped. I usually drop him off at the port cocher and then go park the car. I'm not comfortable with my insurance coverage on a rental car should an accident occur when someone else is at the wheel. I feel it's just too big of a loophole for the insurance company to say, "You're on your own."

 

Over a decade ago I stayed at the Fremont. They only have valet so you have to let them take your car. I got back to my car and there was a scratch on the side of it. It was about 2 feet long so it looks like someone scratched the car and didn't stop so made it worse. I told the attendant but he pointed to a sign that said that they weren't responsible for any damage to the car while in the valet. After that I never stayed at the Fremont and usually stay and park at hotels that allow self parking (like the Cal and MSS downtown). I know that many people use the valet but I rather park the car myself and not let anyone else drive the car unless I know they are insured in case of damage.

I was lucky, the rental agency didn't go after me for the scratch, not sure if they noticed it after the fact or didn't know if they caused the scratch.

I had another incident in Honolulu. I left my car at a restaurant valet. The valet broke my key fob and also said that they weren't responsible for the damage (luckily I had an extra fob because there were a few hundred to replace). Guess that's why I am wary about leaving my car at the valet. I didn't use the valet that much but to get 2 incidents within a year of each other left me with a bad taste with valets. Doesn't help when you see them park cars, there is no regulation or insurance for valet.

 

those guys are counting on you to be a sucker. They can't waive their responsibility to not damage your car just because they put a sign up. Send them a letter from a lawyer citing date/time/damage/repair bill/etc. Often, their tune will change. If it doesn't, send em to small claims court, and you have a decent chance of winning.

The big thing is you have to notice the damage immediately, start taking photos there, get names, etc. It's you vs. them, and your case is a lot weaker once you drive away without any evidence other than the car itself.

Of course the result varies state to state, but these guys count a lot on customers being suckers.

 

The hard thing will be trying to prove that the damage to the car was done by them. They can say that the car was already damaged and if you don't have proof then you may be up the creek without a paddle. I had a friend whose car was damaged. When he went to small claims court the judge asked him to prove that the other person damaged the car. Couldn't be proven so case closed. Even though you take pictures of the damage you still need to show proof with pictures that the car wasn't damaged previously. You pretty much will need a video of the guy damaging the car to be 100% sure you will win.

Most people don't bother with the hotel or valet because it will take too much time, you have to come back to vegas if you go to small claims court, etc. etc. Yes, they are counting on us to be suckers but only because it will take too much time go contest the case.

Rumor, have you done this before with the lawyers, etc. on damage to your car? I guess if were local then might be easier to contest but when you are on vacation it may be harder to do what you mention.

 

This is why you have to take photos there on the spot, get names, try to get a police report if it is really bad, etc. You can't do it later.

In most states you can record your discussion with the valets as you try to walk them into admitting fault.

I agree it would be more difficult on vacation - no, I've not dealt with that.

 

My friend did call the cops and got statements and took pictures of the damage to the car. He then went to small claims court but other side said that he needed to prove that the damage was done at their restaurant, they claimed that there was damage to the car when they got it. My friend couldn't prove that the damage was done by the valets and the judge threw the case out. Like I said, you need to have a video showing that they were the ones who caused the damage or else no sense trying to go after them.
