Ate at Lotus of Siam yesterday for lunch. Rather than link you to my TR, let me excerpt our lunch experience: Ended up going to Lotus of Siam, because Arawan is no longer open for lunch. No wait for lunch, but we were a little on the late side (1PM) If you're a wine drinker, their wine "cellar" is extensive. I suggested that we pick items from the Northern menu, since that is their "specialty". To paraphrase Anthony Bourdain, you don't go here to order Pad Thai, the specialty is Northern Thai cuisine. We had: (descriptions are from their menu). KHAO SOI (meat was Crispy duck) This typical Burmese influenced dish is served with egg noodles in a curry base with a touch of coconut cream, with your choice of meat; garnished with sliced red onions, lime and pickled vegetables. My lady friend thought it was "too sweet". I found it to be "OK" since I'm a "gravy" fiend. NORTHERN LARB A completely different dish from the Issan larb, this northern style larb (ground pork) is cooked with northern Thai spices without the lime juice; garnished with fresh herbs and vegetables. This was the spiciest of the three dishes that we ordered, and the hot kinda "sneaks up" on you. SAI OUA [Northern Style Sausage] This northern Thai style sausage packs quite a bit of heat, stuffed with ground pork, fresh and dried herbs and spices, these mild-medium spice sausages will be sure to give a kick with every bite. It was very tasty, and not too spicy, But then again, I'm known for having my Champong (Korean Seafood noodles) "blood red". The lunch was nice, the company made it the best part of my trip.
thanks for the review! Can you post the prices (if you remember) so we can see how much everything costs? thanks again!
Nice review, DaiLun. One I've had on my to do list for a few years, but never made it out to since I started using a scooter. Going to endeavour to get up there this year, and finally tick it off. Cheers
I believe each dish was between $7.95 and $13.95. Sticky rice was $2.95. It was my date's turn to pay so I wasn't paying close attention.
Like many others Lotus has been on my list for quite a while.. once again I'm planning on lunch next month!! The spicy sausage looks very good
Thanks for the info! Guess I'm not the type to spend a lot of money, esp for lunch so was just curious how much everything cost.
I think @DaiLun said $7.95-$13.95 a dish, then add rice or noodle, and a drink, plus tax and tip, you can make it with $20-$30.
Yes, and we ordered dishes from the Northern Thai menu, there may have been a lunch special. I would recommend going for lunch. No crowd at all.
