World Laughter Day is on May 7th. That's soon! I know. It really snuck up on me, too!

Believe it or not, humor--or attempts thereof--plays an important role in my life.

In fact, I told my bride I wanted to try out for Last Comic Standing.
She said in that case I would need some much better material.
So I purchased three yards of Mulberry silk.

Today I watched the Colonel Angus sketch (featuring Christopher Walken) from SNL and pretty much fell out of my chair laughing.

When/What was your most recent big laugh?

A friend shared the most disgusting urban dictionary definition I've seen yet and another friend immediately one upped it with a variation. I won't go into specifics.

 

I thought that monkey hitting grandma in the face with poo was funny. The fact there was so much hanging on her nose makes me think he's not getting enough fiber.

 

Just watched Dumb and Dumber. The scene where they sell the dead bird to the blind kid always makes me laugh

 

'Been binge watching The Leftovers on HBO - it has it's (dark) funny moments.

 

New season starts tomorrow! I wasn't invited to any Easter dinners but at least I can enjoy leftovers!

 

We're almost caught up - on the 6th episode of season 2 now

Silicon Valley starts again next Sunday - that'll be good for a few laughs

 

A few weeks ago we were at the bar in M&S in Harrahs AC for the happy hour burgers. Great burger and fries for $5.Mine came out and I yelled "Wheres the Beef " They didnt put the burger in the roll. Everybody got a big laugh.

 

My biggest laugh... watching YouTube video about great legend Mr, Don Rickles roasting Martin Scorsese;sorry I couldn't embed the video. RIP.. we don't have comedian like him anymore ... a classy comedian not to mention great actor, especially movie Casino.

For some reason I have been thinking about my funny experiences 15+ years ago when I worked the ER in a big teaching hospital. Always busy always 12+ hour waits to see a doctor- no nurse wanted to work triage. You were at the front with a hostile mob. Looking back I can now enjoy the laughs- I paid my debt to society ten-fold.

Busy night around the holidays - we had 3 gun shot wounds come in at the same time. The ambulance entrance was right next to triage and many patients can see what is going on when EMS comes in. It was a zoo. A patient comes up to me and yells "I guess the only way I am getting back is if I'm dying". I replied yes sir- you are right. He then asked if he could get back if he slit his throat. I replied you better get the artery or I will just bandage you up and stick you back in the waiting room. He told me " I just bet you would" He then laughed because he knew how busy it was.

Once a patient walked up to the desk with an arrow in his chest and proudly proclaimed he shot himself with a crossbow. I threw his ass in a wheelchair and hauled him to the Trauma room. About 10 minutes later I hear screaming and thumping etc. and the guy is at a full run with the doctor other nurses and security chasing him. The doctor is yelling to be careful he still has the arrow in his chest. Security tackled him and luckily there was no further damage.

Every July was new doctor day. July 1 their very first day. I have an 80 year old woman that has an appendicitis. The intern orders all her labs including a pregnancy test. I tell him I was going to cancel that test. He tells me no because his chief told him that every woman with a uterus gets a pregnancy test. I try to reason with him and tell him his chief and the other residents are yanking his chain but he insists. Later that night he came to me and said that he should have listened because the other docs all had a good laugh at his expense. - and I did too.

Another time at triage I get a call on our "bat" phone- the EMS line. They are bringing in a man from the jail who castrated himself- he wanted a sex change operation and wanted to speed the process along. About 10 minutes later a deputy comes in with a small brown lunch bag and puts it on my triage desk. I ask him what it is and he tells me it is the man's testicles. I asked him what he wanted me to do with them- we can't reattach them. The jail nurse wrapped them in gauze and put them on ice. I told him to get it off my desk and I directed him to the trauma room. I then got the Lysol out and hosed my desk down.

The good ole days.

 

I just watched "Boo! A Madea Halloween " and laughed the whole time! Can't wait to watch it again.

 

The hot pepper scene in the restaurant gets me every time.

 

My sisters and I had to go to Ohio the first week of the month to pack up my mom's house, she passed in January and we all live in Texas. Being that the three of us don't always get along and werethrown into an emotional situation, I'll just say it was a stressful week. I did have a much needed great laugh the morning we were to leave. My oldest sister is......let's say......the least endowed in the family. I'm the baby and I am the most. I was in the shower and my bra was on the bed and she picked it up and put it on and put her shirt on over it. When I came into the room, she turned sideways and said "what do you think?" I laughed so hard I almost cried.

 

I've been picturing the Dumb and Dumber Harry-in-the-bathroom scene a lot this week, especially while following @BlacklabberMike 's thread We've All Had This Happen...You Walk Into A Toilet and Wham !

I'd like to share my last big laugh but alas, it was quite a while ago I can't recall any.

But thank you, Richard, for starting this thread, I do believe laughter is good for the soul! I'm enjoying all the stories!!

It might take a few days as our UPS pick-up is W-F only in these parts.

UPS Man Terry's a cool dude. Rocking those brown shorts. Two of my three kids call him a cute nickname...Daddy.

Embarrassing to admit but the turbo lax aftermath in the non functioning toilet for me is a roflol, pain in the gut from laughing so hard moment.
