His and Hers cards, the best strategy for us?

We usually take about 3 weekend trips per year to the Cosmo. We accumulate about 10,000 points per trip. My wife and I each have our own, unlinked Identity cards. Our current plan is to use her card for everything for two of the three trips.....that should keep her at Gold level each year......and then use my card for the third trip which should keep me at Sterling.

My question is: is this the best strategy for us? Is there an advantage to linking the cards or just using one card to see if the Cosmo might throw some better offers at us?

Pile as much as you can on one card. Not sure if your play is enough to use only one account to overcome sterling benefits.

As always, comps other than "fixed" perks for level are always based on play, not on level.

Tell them you lost your cards and then both play on same name card.

You do not have to tell them you lost it, but thats okay too. Just go up and ask for a card. Or next time, ask for two cards. No big deal. There are people that actually play two machines at once - I have even seen three. So, they need a card for each one.

Just to clarify, when people say to play on "one card", they actually mean "one account" since of course the same card can not be in two machines at once (physics of the universe thing)

True, just get two cards which I think they now do anyway.

We were told once a few years ago that if you play on her card the offers will probably be more enticing. The thought was that the women are more likely to have a bigger say in the discretionary money. Don't know if it is the same but the wife's card gets much more play than mine and we are satisfied............Rick

I don't even know if Cosmo lets you link accounts or not. But for this analysis, let's just say you always travel together, and it's a question of whether you should put all of the play on one account, or maintain one account at Gold and the other at Sterling.

You say you earn 10,000 points a trip, but you don't break out how many are from gambling and how many are from hotel spend. So let's just say it's all from gambling. And let's say you won't make Platinum even if you did all the play on one account.

Two of the main benefits of tier are the points multiplier and the bonus comp nights (one for Sterling and two for Gold).

The thing is, if you're only going for weekend trips 3 times a year, you don;t even need to use those tier nights - if you're earning 10,000 points over a two or three night stay, you must be getting 3 night offers anyway, with enough frequency that you can use those offers to book your trips without touching the tier award nights.

The multiplier for Sterling and Gold are both 2x, so you're not gaining or losing anything there by allocating your play one way or the other.

So it's hard for me to come up with much of a meaningful advantage to maintaining one account at Gold and one at Sterling, and it's also hard to see why not. I'd say, maintain separate accounts, IF:

    • You think either of you might make a solo trip. If you're only getting offers on one account, that person has to be there to check in (as far as I know).
    • You think you might be in a position to use all 3 of the tier comp nights to do extended stays (ie. stay an extra night on each of your three trips.) Keep in mind that the tier comped nights are "wild cards" in that you can tack them onto a marketing offer, BUT, the casino is still going factor in those nights in your overall player rating.
    • Similarly, two accounts and therefore two simultaneous marketing offers sets you up to back-to-back his/her offers for an extended stay.

If you were going to go the separate account route, I would say get one account up to Gold first, then get the other one to Sterling last. The reason for that is that getting to Gold first gets you the daily 2-for-1 at the Wicked Spoon benefit faster.

If you play at the same level consistently each trip, I don't think playing on a single account will get you better offers in terms of a better room type. 10,000 points on a two or three night stay is going to get you pretty much the same offer every offer cycle, regardless of how many times a year you do it.

When asked this question, I recommend to guests to link their accounts and play on one card. All marketing offers are based on the individual player. The only thing linking accounts does is allow points to be used by either party.

As discussed above, things to consider are if you always travel together and if you like to stay more than 3-4 nights.

If all trips are in that 2-4 day range & you always travel together, then your upfront F&B/Free Slot Play will increase by playing on only one account. But if would rather stay in our rooms for a 6 night trip and not switch to a relatively lesser quality hotel, then playing on two cards would generate offers for each of you.

Or said another way, and let's use 10,000 points for this example.

    Which player gets better offers?
    a) The one with 5,000 points
    or
    b) The one with 10,000 points?

Of course, player B will get better offers no matter what tier you are at. (other than something you automatically get at each tier)

You have to decide if having two players get smaller offers is worth it to split the play up.

Didn't think you could link accounts. Thought I asked CET and they said no!

CET does not link accounts but playing on one card is more sensible to us.

This thread was about Cosmo. But, you are right, you can not link at CET. And in some cases it is a good thing. All depends on how each person plays and what their total play would be one account vs two and resulting offers and if they generally travel together or separate.

I'm not sure why that would be true, if the play level was consistent, and the OP was talking about doing 10,000 points a trip, but doing two trips on one account and the third trip on the other.

If all three trips earned the same number of points and ADT per trip, I'd expect both accounts to get the same exact offers.

    Account 1
Trip 1 - 10,000 points in 3 nights - gets an offer for X room, Y Freeplay and Z Resort Credit
Trip 2 - 10,000 points in 3 nights - I'd expect them to get the same exact offer again (not accounting for possible seasonal or competitive-based variations). And continue to get it until their play level changed.

    Account 2
Trip 3 - 10,000 points in 3 nights - I'd expect this account to get the same exact offer, and continue to get it until their play level changed.

I wouldn't expect Account 1's offers to be better just because he has 20,000 points, same as they wouldn't be better just because he's Gold tier.

The OP was not describing a method where they'd do 1/3 of the play on each trip on one account and 2/3 on the other - that, I would expect would have a different result.

Thanks for all the great info so far. The 10,000 points is at least half from hotel spending. We usually always spend at least $1000 (earning 5000 points) around the hotel dining, drinks, and paying for some room nights each trip. I am guessing our gaming isn't enough to draw much in the way offers, that is why the extra comped night from the Sterling account has some value to us.

I assume a person who earns 10,000 points all from gaming is treated differently than a person who earns 10,000 points all from hotel spending.

Well I know we both use my card so 95% of points go onto it yet when I make resver with only my cards the room choice is limited but when I at her card I have all non suite rooms comped at all the CET props.

Thank you @Cosmopolitan_SlotVP (Kevin) - it's very helpful to get an answer directly since different properties have different policies about linking or not linking accounts - and the nuances of how linked accounts really work. Your Cosmo response clarifies it for me as we originally got two accounts and linked them but play almost exclusively on my card(s) account - glad to know it's not frowned on!

OK, so knowing you're getting 5,000 points a trip from hotel spend makes a big diff.

So you're also getting 5,000 from gaming. It sounds like both your accounts are either Gold or Sterling, so you're getting a 2x points multiplier. So cut your base points in half - 2,500 per trip at $2.50 per point. $6,250 coin in per trip. Makes a huge diff whether your "weekend" trips are 2, 3, or 4 nights, and what your current offers are like. Those two variables are missing from the equation.
