One of the great Americans. Passed away at 95. A great hero of my childhood. R.I.P.

I have met plenty of celebs, athletes, politicians, and famous people through the years, but meeting John Glenn was the only time I have been starstruck. It was almost exactly twenty years ago when I was working in DC. I was representing my member's office at some meaningless event, did not expect any actual members of Congress to show up, when suddenly Senator Glenn walks up behind me. I looked over my shoulder and my jaw almost hit the ground. I said "You're John Glenn!" and immediately felt like an idiot. But to a nerdy kid who grew up dreaming about space, it was an incredible moment. He smiled, shook my hand, and talked to me about my work. Couldn't have been a nicer guy

I was just a schoolchild when Glenn first orbited the Earth. We listened to the reports on the radio. Long and very rewarding life! RIP!

Ohio and the nation were very fortunate to have been served by John Glenn. He was a man of integrity and a true patriot.

John Glenn was a true American hero and he went in space when the space program wasn't as refined as it is now. That says a lot about who he was and what he was made of IMHO.

Very few role models, that's for sure. I mean there's lots of role models, but GOOD ones?

I'm sure they're out there, but very few and far in-between.

Having spent a good portion of my life in public-procurement, I always liked this quote:

John Glenn: "As I hurtled through space, one thought kept crossing my mind - every part of this rocket was supplied by the lowest bidder.”

I am sixty and the astronauts were my heroes, as well as my parents I think. ( took some serious cajones to strap yourself on top of a bomb headed to outer space )

We watched or listened to all the launches, it was big excitement at my home. Suspect it is what spiked my early and ongoing interest in science.

Never followed his political career but glad to hear he served with integrity.

I just heard this morning that he crossed paths with Charles Lindbergh in WWII. I guess they flew some missions together. I bet that led to some interesting conversations!
    RIP John Glenn
