If you want your money to last, go next door to the Gold Coast where the pay tables at least give you a chance.

See instruction above to cross the street! There is a pedestrian crosswalk at Valley View. Don't walk, Run!

I play VP a lot and I still don't get why people get so bent out of shape over pay tables.

It's quite simple - payback. Choosing crappier paytables over readily accessible ones is like sitting down at a 6:5 BJ table when 3:2 is nearby. Your money will last longer in the long run.

    Just stayed at rio.

Rio is weird. 3 bars have the newer, crappier paytables (bar near kiss mini golf, masquerade bar, and iBar ultra lounge),

All American Grille. The sports book bar, and Shutters bar have the old paytables (7/5 Triple Bonus Plus, 6/5 Bonus, and 8/5 DDB), and the latter 2 also have the old all star II paytables with 8/5 JoB with Double STP (97.79%), so I crammed in a good amount of that over the weekend.

But Shutters has a disturbing trend. At 4 am, I see lights behind the bar at Shutters go on. Yep they installed the redlight/green light system. Dan the bartender, who was really cool, said I was floating between flashing red and green. He made it sound like you didn't always had to be green for a drink, but you had to be green while ordering. Being green the entire time would be tough for me!

back in the day that was the hookers bar. filled every night with them.when Rob the bartender was on.
I think he was in on it and got canned suddenly.

i should get my memories together and post some hooker stories in that thread.

    Tring,

Found out we may be at Rio in two weeks (still hoping my buddy gets up up to the strip, but not looking a gift horse in the mouth).
How was your overall experience there, VP and drink comp-wise...? (Craft beer selections? decent whisky comp?) Did you get over to GC or Palms to compare pay-tables and drink comp options? I'll take 8/5 DDB if I must.
and not to derail the thread, how was your room?

Craft beer isn't much. But like most of CET, they have Lagunitas IPA, which works for me in a pinch. The all American Grille may have some different beers, but I didn't get one there.

No idea on whiskey, sorry. And they will both be subject to the red light/green light system, but most members here seem to play fast enough where it's not going to be a real issue. They just got installed when I played there. The bartender said I was green if I was focused on actually playing. A ~300 hand an hour pace should always keep it on.

We were in the Ipanema tower, I thought the room was fine and quite sizable. One drawback is no door/curtain for the mirrors sinks that are outside the toilet/tub area.

I briefly got to gold coast last trip. Those paytables looked like they didn't change. Looking at my sticky though, I wish I would have redid the list. I guess I never fully covered all the games.

But I know at quarters DDB is only 8/5 there with the suited royal progressives. At that point I'd stay at rio if you're playing quarter DDB at the bar. You can play STP and DSTP with 8/5 DDB as well at Shutters or the sports book. Or try 7/5 Triple Bonus Plus that has a strategy really close to DDB.

Orleans has 9/6 DDB at the Mardi Gras Bar though if you feel like catching a shuttle.

Palms I haven't been there since 2012. But from @breanna61 's TRs, they have 9/5 DDB with a multiway prog. So you could argue a walk over there.

They do tring and unless something has changed recently, no drink tickets at Palms. Hope to head to Vegas next Sunday with 3 nights at Cosmo and final night at Palms (playing it by ear as my little brother was rushed to hospital Tuesday and is in ICU). God willing my brother improves and trip goes ahead.

Tring and Breanna, thanks for the updates...spent last trip 100%downtown, if we are at Rio this trip will have to get up to the strip once or twice, but good to know I have "local" options. Tring, hopung though TAG is stocked w some Pizza Port tho..want to try that DIPA (?Kook) you posted in your TR.

Can I get a decent comp whisky at Palms, been a while since I was there...?

Breanna, hope your brother is ok...

Thanks fenway! He has been in a coma since Tuesday but opened his eyes a bit today and squeezed my hand when I asked so that is a very good sign!

Rio has 6 VP bars being one by Kiss Golf, one by Masqueade tower, Shutters by the cage, one by the sports area, the iBar, and one at the American grill. I have won a few royals at shutters bar playing DDBP and the bartenders there are great. They do watch out for people putting a 20 in the machine getting a drink and cashing the 20 0ut . Makes it tough on us regular VP players dealing with lights and coupon tickets. We come to Vegas to gamble and drink and I appreciate the comp drinks and rooms for our play. Christian. David, Santiago, Dan, Demetrius and few others there know who plays and takes real good care of you. Just tip them well throughout the night. Bar is normally pretty lively and they play classic rock most of the time. Weekends the X-Rock dancers are dealers right beside Shutters . Late night the drinks seem to get a bit stronger and higher up on the shelf. Have met some fun folks there for some great socializing while playing. To us it's the best VP bar not only at Rio but the general area. It's all about service and atmosphere so the games are about the same everywhere.

    Yep, I know paytables...
And I have tried playing better paytables at various casinos...
Remarkably, those machines have just not made my $ last as long--IT MAKES NO SENSE. (I always start with the same starting $)
My 3 Vegas Royals/4 Aces (DDB?) have ALL been at bartop VP!
