Mandalay Bay area

The wifey and I are planning our 24th trip to the promised land for October.

We're planning on two nights at Mandalay Bay and two nights at Orleans. (We've never stayed at MB, or actually ever even walked in the casino, just driven by on the way somewhere else!). We got a $69 deal through myvegas-- couldn't pass it up.

BTW, staying at MB will make it 32 different places we've stayed over the years -- 6 of which don't even exist anymore.

Question: what else is there around the MB? Shopping, food, bars, etc within walking distance? (Besides obvious Welcome sign).

Suggestions /recommendations?

I highly recommend seeing Carrot Top at Luxor. I think his show might be my favorite show in Vegas.

 

MB has a lot of good restaurants. Also, I love the chandeliers in the casino.

 

The myvegas reward for the Shark Reef is nice to do at MB but I wouldn't pay for it, I feel like we finished in like 15 minutes.

You can get to Luxor and Excal via the tram or you can walk indoors the whole way - Mandalay Shoppes has some restaurants and shops - it's the connection between MB and Luxor.

Once you're at Excal then MGM, NYNY, Monte Carlo, Trop, even Aria and Cosmo are only a stones throw away. Haven't been there since the park area between NYNY and MC opened but that should have at least restaurants.

If the weather is still nice, MB has a nice pool area.

 

Here is my list of favorite stuff in or near MB:
*Burger Bar. My favorite burgers in vegas. Its in the shops between MB and Luxor
*The pools at MB. Sand beach and I'm pretty sure at least one heated pool. best pool complex on the Strip
*Tacos and Tequila at Luxor. Yummy Mexican food
*Brad Garrett comedy club at MGM. You get three or four stand up comedians per show. Always fun

 

For bars I recommend Skyfall. Great views, solid drink list.

For restaurants, I've enjoyed Della's at Delano for both breakfast and lunch. Citizens is one of my go to's for breakfast when staying at MB/Delano

As for other things to do, I recommend the spa at Mandalay Bay, definitely one of the nicer ones on the strip, and quite big. Like someone else mentioned, Carrot Top is a must see. Finally, have to hit up the Vegas sign. If you walk out by the Four Seasons lobby, it's maybe a 15 minute walk.

 

As far as dining at the Mandalay Bay, my favorites are Burger Bar, Border Grill (Border Brunch), Fleur (Tour of the World), Veranda (Weekend Breakfast Buffet), and Charlie Palmer Steak (Cut of the Week).

For activities, there's the humongous pool, the Shark Reef aquarium, the Michael Jackson One show, and the Foundation Room at night. The T-Mobile Arena also isn't too far away, so you could check to see if there are any events that you're interested in.

 

MB is a fantastic resort with lots to do. Check out House of Blues, lots of good artists play there. Plenty of good restaurants at MB. I like MB because it is off the beaten path and doesn't get the traffic that say a Bellagio gets. Hope you have a great time.

 

Thanks for the suggestions! Looks like Burger Bar for supper first night, and then we have a 2-for-1 breakfast buffet the next morning at the MB buffet.

I always like to have a plan in place for first few meals and then wing it (comps earned, or groupons, etc.), if I don't feel like gambling much and go the low-roller route.

I've been hitting the New Mexico casinos a lot lately, so this Vegas trip is more about the vibe and seeing all the new stuff than spending all day at a VP machine.

Any other suggestions for a first-time low-roller stay at MB are appreciated -- pool tips, room suggestions (does the $20 trick do any good there?), etc. thanks!

if you get a chance, definitely go and check out his show, its funnier than I could ever describe.

 

Funny because I would have said do anything except C Top.

 

M Bay has a great pool.

 

If you're at MB on a Sunday or Monday night, be sure to check out the band Vegas Limit at the Mizuya Room (bar.) I believe they've been playing there a couple days a week for about a year. I saw them a few weeks ago. They're a cover band that plays only requests---by far the best cover band I've ever seen.
I'm definitely going to make a special trip over to MB in November just to watch their show again. I think they start at 10pm.

The Mandalay Bay complex has almost 30 restaurants and bars to choose from, including the restaurants in the shops on the bridge between MB and Luxor.

My recommendations:
Try to upgrade to the Delano. The rooms are great.
Breakfast at Della's Kitchen.
Brunch at Border Grill on the weekends is KILLER.
I really liked the happy hour specials at Rx Boiler Room, especially the Chicken Pot Pie nuggets.

The pool is probably the best in Vegas, assuming it is still open.

To add to what others said:

Michael Jackson The One Cirq show was pretty good. Some of the best pools on the strip - wave pool, lazy river, day club. Light night club.

One of the best views of the strip IMO.

Other then the kids (it tends to be a kid friendly hotel) nice lobby / not a lot of people.

I agree on Carrot Top. I had no interest whatsoever in seeing him, we went anyway. Now we've been 3 times and laughed so hard every time! The first time, I couldn't catch my breath for the 1st 20 minutes and we both had tears rolling down our faces.
Its easy to get good seats as its a smaller venue. There have also been celebrities in the audience watching the show every time we've been there.

 

I find breakfast buffet at MB the best.... not only the food but the fact that you get to see the outside when you eat is priceless. Burger bar is great as others have mentioned. Try for Delano for sure. The price delta is normally small and not dealing with the chaos at the MB elevators is well worth it if you ask me. I love the fact that MB doesn't get tons of traffic and we certainly don't mind walking to the other end of the strip daily.... but that's us. You can learn the trams and monorail and do much less walking.

 

Hi spicole, I've heard a lot of good things about Delano. Is that tower located any further from the casino than the Mandalay Bay rooms? We are trying to decide if I should stay there but want to be close to the action
