    I was at the Cal on May 13, 2016 and posted these updates to Cal's renovations on another Vegas forum;

    1) The shuttered snack bar now has the megabucks, $1 WOF, and other slot machines.
    2) Pool is closed for renovations, I was intending to cool off only to find a black curtain covering the entrance.
    3) The bar on the eastside of the casino is closed off with a black curtain.
    4) The renovated casino looks nice but the machines seems tighter, could be just my imagination but how else are they supposed to pay for the upgrades.
    5) They still have some good 10/7 DB, 9/6 DDB, 8/5 BP, and 9/6 JOB.

    These are the daily specials at the Cal's Market Street Café that are covered 100% by the meal coupons;

    Market St. also has a lunch special: Teriyaki Hawaiian Shortrib. Comes with rice, mash potatoes, or French fries and vegetables and and a drink. 100% free with food coupon.

    One of my favorites!

    Not a rent or lease expiration issue, as it was Boyd owned. The noodle house just opened a year ago, its not going to close for a new Cal Club. This is just another trend, getting rid of the low priced snack shops, just like Golden Gate did.

    We seldom see the noodle house filled with customers, most of us Hawaiians see the place as an overpriced rip off and will go elsewhere for our meal. Too bad, I thought that Boyd cared more about their customers (no resort fees) but it doesn't look that way anymore. What's next, resort fees?

    Oh please, makiki.....don't even mention it, we might get BACHI (Bad Luck). The Cal doesn't have any amenitites that even approach justifying the -----fees (I can't say it, lol!) All they have is a concrete pond upstairs somewhere, lol!

    I like the Cal for the gambling and laid back atmosphere. Hope they don't mess that up, they already pissed me off by closing the Cal Club.:soapbox:

    I visited the concrete pond on the 2nd floor. I have other things to do than lounge at the pool, besides we can get a better view by going to ala mo beach park to check out the girls, lol.

    I used to like the Cal because I would eat at the Cal club a few times when I was there. I will go to market street for the prime rib but other than that I will probably go elsewhere to eat. I won't ever eat at the Noodle house (plus too expensive) and many of my friends won't go there either. Yes they don't have many amenities but some of the other hotels don't have amenities and they still have resort fees. Yeah, better to not give them ideas on ways to soak us for more money.

    The Island short ribs is served everyday, 24/7, 365 days a year. The meat is tender and I usually eat the tendons around the bones which is a little rubbery but I like it if it is cooked right. Once in a while it is under-cooked and tough and hard to eat. The price is about $8.99. And as a previous poster pointed out that this menu item is covered 100% by the meal coupon which also comes with a drink (with the meal coupon).

    I stand corrected, it's $9.99. Also, note that any menu item with a palm tree next to it is covered 100% by the meal coupon.
