I got a really good run on the slots a few years back, and I ended up winning the equivalent of a month's pay in just one day. I had the irrational thought "I can quit my job and become a professional slot player!" My second reasonable thought was "Shut up! That's a horrible and stupid idea! Don't quit your job!" Luckily, I listened to the reasonable side of my brain and kept my job. I never got a month's pay again after that. I wake up grateful every day that I knew better than to quit my job to be a professional slot player.

So, what is your single most irrational thought you had on slots?

I don't know that I ever gave much thought to slots. To me, it was always like betting on the flip of a coin. I watched a program some time back about gaming in general, but it had a lengthy bit on slot machine evolution and the current state-of-the-art machines. I always wonder about the pawing at the screen for 'luck', when in actuality, the result of your spin has been pre-determined instantaneously by the software. The visuals are simply for your entertainment (and continued seduction). I guess my bottom line would be that luck exists or doesn't exist outside of any of our ability to influence it (e.g. that ball has hit red the past twenty spins, so black is due....this store has sold three winning lottery tickets so it must be a good place to buy).

"I've already pumped $300 into this damn machine, it HAS to start paying out soon!"

    or

When winning "This is so easy, I don't know why I don't play more slots!"

This! I don't play slots but the same, and I hesitate to call it logic, applies to video poker.

I'll play till the cocktail waitress comes back....a few hundred later I learned to just go to the bar or gift shop before I sit down. Pretty expensive drink of water.

Every trip I think about hitting Megabucks and calling my boss to tell him I quit.

One of many irrational thoughts I've had "this machine has been cold all night, it's bound to hit in the morning, so I'm going to set my alarm for 6am and try again before breakfast". Sadly, I've done this.

When I'm on a winning streak: "Oh, my God! This Slot machine is clearly broken! I have to milk it before the casino realizes it!"

    OR

"I'm going to move to Vegas, I'm so happy here.".

Actually, Jen, you may not be too far off. I read somewhere that a gambler was sitting on a hot machine that was doing very lucky glitches, giving him many $500 wins on just a dollar. When he got to $8,000 up, he said "I better get off this machine before the Casino realizes it is paying way too well. Wouldn't you know it, literally one minute later, the Casino technicians had checked the machine out and shut it down. Lol. Guy was smart to get off when he did.

That's funny! I won 1800$ on a 50 cent bet at Keno a couple of weeks ago and I was so stunned, I thought the machine had malfunctioned!

The other thing my brain screams at me, when I'm playing Keno: "AWW! Had I known those numbers were coming out! (!)"
