I am curious of how everyone would react if a friend or stranger ask you for money so they can get even. After couple times of being stiffed by different people , I am never going to lent anyone any money in a casino . sometimes they did get even and paid me back that night , that is best result . but most of times they lost the money you lent them . Now they have 50 percent of pay you back , even if they pay you back , they would said something like they wished they did not see me that night so they cannot lose anymore money they already did . It is like lose -lose situation for the people who is trying to be nice . I personally never ask for money from anyone . I only bring what I can afford to lose .

Well a stranger of course not, I would never do that. And I don't do it for friends either. Every time I've traveled to Vegas with friends we've always had the deal that no one gives money to anyone else for gambling. You bring with you what you can afford to lose. If you lose it all I'll buy you a meal but I will never give you money to gamble.

Those instances haven't happened in many years but when I was younger, 20's, it did every time I went. There would always be one person (never the same one) who would lose everything the first day or two.

I have no problem borrowing or lending any of my friends money for whatever purposes they want. I have always paid back any money borrowed immediately upon returning home and friends have done the same. If you have a problem about 'trust issues' perhaps you need to find new friends. As for family, well, you can't pick them. I still would lend any of them money for whatever purposes they wanted. I would expect to be paid back immediately upon returning home...or I wouldn't lend it.

I've only lent gambling money one time over 20 years ago in Atlantic City. A new "friend" I met on the junket from Atlanta earlier that day hit me up at the BJ table. (He wasn't playing at my table, he just found me.) His request caught me by surprise; and between being preoccupied, doing well, and drinking half my weight in booze, I gave him a Benjamin without even thinking. THEN I started thinking; namely, how stupid I was. Why on earth did I do that for someone I didn't even know? More than the money, I felt like a total sucker and had a hard time concentrating on anything else. The remainder of my day was ruined. Amazingly, he actually repaid me on the return trip (when I asked him for it), but I learned a valuable lesson and won't ever do it again. Close friends would be a different story, but it's never happened.

"Neither a borrower or a lender be....do not forget.....stay out of debt...."

Those words of wisdom always ring in my mind when dealing with friends and family.

I never borrow. On those rare occasions when I do lend money I see it as lost. If I'm repaid, fine. If I get stiffed, that's fine also. But I'll NEVER lend money to that person again. And I have no problem telling them why.

Don't Ever Do It! Even if they are your best friend or a relative. If you do, make sure you can afford to never see the money again. It's just never a good idea.

Every day on the TwoPlusTwo poker forum you will find story after story of people lending money and never seeing it again.

I won't loan money either. Instead, I give it to the person. That way there's no expectations and no excuses. There's nothing to stress about if you simply make it a gift.

I never expect money to be returned. That's why I'm pleased when they do pay it back. I've never loaned money for gambling, either.

Although I'm not sure if this counts:
Me and a buddy were meeting another guy in Reno. He was about an hour behind us, so we waited by playing blackjack. We were both up pretty good, so when our guy showed up and didn't want to play, I gave him a few chips to sit him down. He paid me back after about five hands. We all killed it. All before we even checked into the room.
Special features: As they were cashing in, I dropped a twenty into a dollar slot across from the cage and as the credits hit zero, I hit for $600. Boom.

    Stranger? Hell no.
Since no family or friends go to Vegas, I don't have to worry about the other scenario.
    Well, except for my wife.
If anyone is doing any borrowing it is me borrowing from her since she is the one with the marker.

done it a few times with a couple of guys that were on the trip if they were short chips/cash at the tables and didn't want to run up to the room or pull a marker to cover a bet.
i know they have cash up in the safe or can pull a marker if that bet lost and i get my money back in minutes.
i trust the guys i go with.

I would pay for booze and some food for a travel buddy because I deem those essential. gambling is a luxury so if they dont have enough for that, too bad.

A stranger? Thats kind of a weird one to ask about... I've never been hit up for cash by a stranger, and I am sure I would say no if I was.

As far as money goes, to me there are two aspects to this: is it for money/in a casino, or is it money they need for something?

If friends or family came to me to borrow money and I could afford it and I felt right about it, then I would just give it to them as a gift. That way I don't have to worry about trying to collect it or them avoiding me because they don't have the money, and I don't have to worry about what them paying me back would mean (IE: if they borrow money from me this month to pay rent, if they paid me back next month is that going to mean they can't afford groceries or paying bills?).

To me the key there is the "and I felt right about it" part: thats my "out" for not being an enabler or for giving somebody money for something thats too much of a luxury, or for somebody coming to me too often with their hand out.

And thats where the gambling/at the casino would come in: to me gambling is a luxury expense and to that end I am not going to pay for the gambling habit of somebody else or give them money so they can try to make themselves even.

For some odd reason, I continue to give my wife stacks of chips and never see it coming back my way. How odd?

Nah, seriously, not just gambling, but life in general; I don't 'give' or 'loan' money to anyone. I've been overly generous in the past, only to have realized what a poor decision it really was. Now, if - as one poster stated - they have a group of amigos who are good (and you know they're good for it), for an evening - that may be ok. Just not for me. There's been too many instances where I had to go the 'friendly reminder' route, which I always find awkward, and on more than one occasion, unsuccessful.

I just can't envision a scenario where I would actually loan someone money to gamble. That's just a wee bit to tough for me to get my noodle around. The nagging thought would be...lemme get this straight, whatever methodology you used to lose your stack, you plan to somehow change that and win not only your initial stake but my loan as well?

Borrow or lend money to get even? No. Never. 1-800-GAMBLER

Now, a friend or family that for some strange reason couldn't hit up their bank account to get their own money... maybe. No one that I thought might have a gambling problem. Anyone wanting to borrow money to try and get even has a gambling problem.

I know this isn't quite what you mean, but I like to carny up and play Crazy 4 Poker. One time, a guy actually had four of a kind, and was one chip short of a triple down. I tossed a chip his way, he collected big time, and he tossed the chip my way right afterwards. This is as close as I would get to lending someone money for something gambling-related purposes.

I have lent to friends on several occasions and it always worked out well. The amounts ranged anywhere from $25 to $10k, but they were always people I trusted. Most instances I was paid back immediately (e.g., lending some chips for a double down). Only once have I had to wait more than a couple weeks to be repaid, and that instance I was still paid within the month

Only time I've been in a situation was during one my groups first 3 March Madness trips. We always go to South Point for a day to watch the games but we had never played the tables there. I didn't bring any money except for sports bets and incidentals and I had made my bets for the day. In the middle of the games, everyone decides they want to go play craps and I only have like $50 on me which isn't enough to play the way I like to play craps, so I said I'll pass. One guys says he will give float me a couple hundred. I think he gives me $150 so I can buy in for $200, we go play for a while and I lose $50 of what he gave me. Cashed out and gave him what was left and paid him back the $50 when we got back to our rooms later that day. He was a friend, I paid him back within 6 hours but I still didn't like playing with someone else's money. Since then I always bring more than I think I'll need.

Table etiquette for Mississippi Stud is if a person has a "guaranteed" win or push, you lend them money so they don't have to break another bill. Had a guy beside me at Ballys who had a guaranteed WIN with pocket Jacks...I lent him $30 to load up. After he won, he didn't pay me back right away. We played two more hands, and then he said he was coloring up. I said " don't forget you owe me $30... He claimed he already paid me back, but luckily the entire table AND the dealer said he did not. He paid me off and left in a huff. I will still lend money to a fellow player, at MS, but I demand to be paid back right away after the hand is played.

Besides the apparent beggars on Fremont St, I was approached twice in Vegas for money.

One was at Bellagio. I was at the bubble craps table. I was having the session of my life, started with a 20 and my balance was 500+. One guy, obviously after having seen my screen, asked for some money mumbling something like he wants to play a game to win back blah blah.

The second time was at Casino Royale, and again at the bubble craps. This time the player across from me runs out of money. He asks "do you happen to have 10 bucks?".

My answers to both were a straight "no". I had no doubt that these people were either scam artists or problem gamblers. And one should give money to neither one of them.

Lending money in a casino sounds like a sure fire method to get robbed or murdered at worst and stiffed at best, unless of course the person you are loaning money to is rainman.
