Getting items comped off at the end of a trip

My wife and I will be coming to Vegas after a two year break at the end of March for 3 nights. We are budgeting to spend ~$2500 a day gambling (about $8-10k for the trip). We play mostly slots together but I will also spend about 4-6 hours over the trip playing PGP in the $50-$100 hand range.

Last time we were in Vegas we stayed at MB and played at pretty much all the Mlife casinos. At the end of our trip I went to the Mlife desk and asked if they could evaluate our play (all on my players card). I think I remember hearing we had about $60k coin in. They comped off a few meals and a spa package which totaled $500 or so.

I read on here about people getting 25-40% back in comps, and we got about 10%. What does it take to get to these higher percentages? Do we need to play only at where we are staying? We have a host in Reno with a similar level of play.

the 25-40% is of your theoretical loss, not your total coin in.

 

My theo would've Ben about 10% or $6k if I understand how things work. 25% would've been 3x what I got.

That budget definitely should be getting you way better back end comps. (I've had stays totally comped, minus tips, at MB equivalent hotels for around that daily coin-in....20k a day if 60 k total over 3 days)

The kicker might be your statement "Last time we were in Vegas we stayed at MB and played at pretty much all the Mlife casinos." On Mlife, comps are based on playing where you stay, not coin in at all Mlife properties..

How much coin in did you have at MB alone? Mlife is linked for tier levels, and the few umbrella promos, but the hotels are like individual franchises.....if you're spreading that 60k coin-in around a bunch of properties, you'll go up on tier level, but not so much on back-end comps, as your hotel looks at how much you spent at THEIR hotel.

Mlife works for me because I play where I stay, so my comps are solid. If you're spreading your coin-in amongst multiple mlife properties, that could be why you're seeing lower backend comps.

Go into Mlife under "my account" at the top right of the page. Then go to "Tax Info." You can see EXACTLY how much coin-in you spent at MB.

Spreading yourself too thin amongst a few properties definitely eats into comps on Mlife. (I think CET is different from what I've read.)

Though, you SHOULD hopefully get some decent future promos from mlife, hopefully a universal promo at any property, those are always fun.

But the casino also considers your "free" room as part of those comps they give you from your play. For weekend nights, MB might value a standard room as a $200/night comp (educated guess).

But even factoring in the room, you didn't utilize as much as you could have (unless those comped meals were about $500+). Finding a good host would be able to help you gain more comps for your level of play.

 

It must've been because we were spreading our play around. We typically pay for our room up front because we don't go to Vegas frequently enough to maintain offers, so that wasn't it. This time we are staying at NYNY in an 1100 sq ft suite, can't remember what it's called, but couldn't pass it up for $210/night.

We thought about Cosmo because I am a Marriott Gold member, but my wife wanted to stay somewhere with a jetted tub, and the spa services were a little more there.

As far as MLife Properties go we stay at Mandalay Bay on comped offers but give them very little play during our stay because of poor video poker.

We play during our stays at Mandalay Bay at MGM Grand due to better VP there. We still get offers for Mandalay Bay but not for MGM Grand not sure why.

 

Hi NC, FYI the post urging you to look at Cosmo was NOT a standard VMB, it was the Cosmopolitan VP of slots, and he's great. Cosmo has been GREAT about pampering VMB-ers with comps, and he was saying he'd take care of you. (E.g. potential solid comps.)

The higher-end rooms DO have jetted/bubble tubs, your wife would be happy. It's a gorgeous hotel, and they are driven to take care of their guests. The fact he reached out to you personally is a huge compliment, why not message him and see if he can give you the service you're looking for? You're not out anything for checking with him...

And if you get comps on a 5 star hotel, if you pay a little more on spa services you're still saving a ton of money with a hotel that can be more generous with comps, and staying in a 5 star hotel----with the perfect location, and with a VP who is on a mission to prove the Cosmo is one of the best spots on the strip.

A VP of slots offered to take care of your personally, and you're not writing in to see what he can do? What do you have to lose? Nothing ventured, nothing gained...I am excited for you!

Switched stay to Cosmo after contacting slotVP. I will try to do a trip report and let everyone know how it went. This will be my first trip to Vegas where I focus all of my play at one property.

 

Woo-hoo! I'm excited for you NC, and yes, post us! I think you'll find your comps will shoot WAY up by focusing the brunt of your play where you stay...you might not have to pay much for a Vegas trip ever again

If you want a good tub, make sure to get the 1 bedroom terrace. Giant Japanese soaking tub was an awesome addition, although some have complaints about light making it into the room due to the design of the windows/shades/bedroom/bathroom. I found it very enjoyable, but did have to prop some pillows to hold the shades closed enough, but I do this at every hotel I stay in lol.

Wrap around suit also has the big tub, but I still prefer the Japanese soaking tub under the window looking out at bellagio fountains.

 

I don't think you will regret your Cosmo stay. I had a 2 night comp (3 but couldn't use 3rd because of NYEve) and freeplay offer. It was a wonderful stay & a wonderful room - even without a fountain view. I loved the experience.

Unfortunately I ended up with the issue of multiple blisters on my feet the first night. My daughter had to do the freeplay & I literally could not sit at a machine for more than an hour over a 2 day period. I did keep getting offers for a couple more months but by the time I could go again there were no more offers. I have a stay coming up at Ballys in April & I have an alarm set on my phone to make sure I get back on Cosmos machines & hopefully pull in an offer again in the future. Every trip I seem to get distracted & don't get back there. Not this time!!!
