How do you deal with this? How long does it take to respond to a simple email?

If you are talking about MSS, it could be awhile.

I think it kind of depends. If you have an established relationship I would expect within a few days if you're a regular player and not a whale. Also keep in mind they typically have weekends that aren't the normal Saturday and Sunday. Also it's possible they're on vacation or out sick.

To be fair, the host doesn't really know much about you. Unless I'm mistaken, you've only been to Vegas once and your action wasn't at a level where a host at a top tier strip casino would show much interest.

That said, you certainly deserve the common courtesy of a return call/email. But sometimes that's just how it goes - people, more often than not, suck. Ask about setting up a line of credit and you'll probably get a response rather quickly.

It depends. Do they know you? Which casino? If its a simple generic question they very well might not answer. I get a response within 24 hrs from Mlife hosts at Aria(including host on maternity leave) and MGM Grand. I had a host at Monte Carlo that when i was talking to him his cell was constantly going off. So it depends on how busy they are and if it is worth it to them to reply. It is completely subjective. All of my requests are direct asking for bookings of offers. My last 3 emails to hosts at Mlife properties they have all responded within 24 hrs and I have never contacted them before. Also maybe try contacting a different host.

Thanks for these tips, I just find it a bit ill mannered not to respond timely, absent any irregular circumstances. I guess I need to expand my reach and keep at it. I am trying to establish a good host and gaming relationship for an upcoming trip with a bankroll of 5,000 at a decent property.

If you already have a good relationship with the host( which means you met and had diner together, you gave the host gifts more than once etc), I would expect reply in a couple of working days , otherwise, a couple of weeks is not out of ordinary.

Hard to say for sure without knowing how much you play but a $5,000 bankroll might not even qualify you for a host at a decent property.

    Good luck.

Most hosts at decent properties are hardly even responsive for 20-30k players.

Not the way it should be either way but the way it is.

I would say a couple of weeks is extremely out of the ordinary. If my host didn't reply to me for weeks on end I wouldn't give them a pass. I would move on or ask for another host. Waiting 1/2 a month to simply reply means they don't care for me and/or my action.

To the OP, depends on what you emailed them. If you are trying to establish a relationship with a casino that doesnt really know you it might take more than a few days for a host to get back to you. If I emailed a host out of the blue and asked for a night stay at a property I've only been to once I wouldnt expect a fast reply.

The host would have to go pull up your account and see what games you played on that one day. Your level of bet. your coin-in. Perhaps they might check your name against a sister property to see if you have any history there ETC. These are all things they normally cant do from their cel phones. They probably would have to find time to get into the office and look it all up.

If everyone and their mother could just email a host and say I bet Blah Blah Blah and want a room and were given one that host might get fired.

Never lie to a host. Never exaggerate your level of play or bankroll. If you get something upfront blindly and you dont play up to the comp the host can get hurt and sometimes even have to pay for part of that comp out of pocket (with commission money) if they have a history of being dupped. So if you are new give it time. But I would expect a reply at least saying "Let me check" within a few days.

I agree. When I have written I generally (99%) get a response in 24-36 hours (or at least an out of office notice) but that is with Boyd (GC/MSS/Orleans) and I am certainly NOT the High Roller cited above in the multiple K levels.....when dealing with a CET or MGM there are many more fish in the aquarium and it might be easy to get overlooked.

Generally, (if attempting contact with Boyd) just check to see what Joe's countdown timer is or his published future plans as you may want to avoid trying to gain attention during that period of time especially if a downtown property. Good luck!!

Hate to say it, but I agree with the posts above that a $5k bankroll is not going to get you much attention form a host. Unless you're talking a lower tier property, you're probably just as well off waiting until you get there and seeking out the host office or host on duty at the end of your trip. There are a lot of players in Vegas with a $5k bankroll, so that level of play is not going to get you noticed at a nicer property

That has been my experience the last few trips. I usually just go to the host's office before I checkout to get back end comps. Unless you need something special, or are a high limit player, etc., I see no need to contact a host prior to your trip.

Good luck, especially with a 5K bankroll.

what are you hoping to get out of that relationship? What would constitute being taken care of to the point that you'd be willing to loyally give them your play?

This and his very low amount of play the only other time he has been to vegas I can see a host not wanting to waste there time on him.

I did not read the OP's TR, so I did not know about the low play. Shemesh, if you did low play the property you're trying to contact a host at, you're unlikely to hear back at all. Just stay and play there (or take advantage of any corporate offers you have been sent) and then check with the host on duty at the end of your trip. You're unlikely to get anything, but it never hurts to ask. And if you wait until you're at the property, unlike your email, the hosts cannot simply ignore you. When I started developing relationships with hosts years ago, I always sought them out in person initially.

I think OP also spread his play around multiple properties. A host will want to see more play at his/her casino.

Concentrate your play and do as UKFanatic says.

I think OP also spent only a few minutes at each table game, based on the TR. With a smaller bankroll, I think having some play history helps.

The last time I went to Vegas, I had only an $8K or so bankroll, but concentrated my play at MGM and played for 4-8 hours each day. A host cold-called me and I shot him an e-mail. Host gave me a call back the next day and introduced himself. He's made one or two arrangements for me since (nothing comped -- I like nice rooms and am more than happy to spring for them), but I thought I'd at least say hello and shake hands with him during my next trip (incidentally, next week).

(And on a completely unrelated note, thank you, Shifter, for your theo breakdown from another thread -- very helpful to have a better approximation of figures.)
