4 Queens - what to expect?

I will be staying at the 4 Queens for the first time. I enjoy playing there, but have never stayed. In fact, the only hotel I've stayed at Downtown has been the Golden Gate. The Golden Gate has tiny, tiny rooms with old bathrooms but very good beds and good tv stations. I usually stay on Strip or at Red Rock, GVR or Silverton. This trip my comp deal was best at the 4 Queens. Do they have a pool? Are the beds any good? Decent selection of tv stations? Are the rooms claustrophobic?
My second stop this trip will be the Gold Coast on Flamingo. Again, same questions.

Four Queens will be a step down from Red Rock, so be prepared.

I like the Gold Coast.

 

4Q rooms are a bit dated, so if you are expecting luxury, you will be disappointed. If the noise from FSE will bother you, ask for the tower close to the check in desk, it is a little better back away from the street. Can't help with the TV selection.

 

You will have more room at 4-Queens than the 'standard' rooms at Golden Gate... and while larger & easier to get in & out of, the bathrooms at 4Q are a little bit bigger... but still small by 'strip' standards.

Gold Coast is comparable to a La Quinta or Comfort Inn... basic room, but clean & nice.

TV selections are something I never seem to recall in Vegas... I usually just put it on ESPN for background noise while I'm in the room.

We were double booked there so it didn't matter, but this was the view:

 

Four Queens rooms are 'okay' but dated. The better rooms are in the South tower but they are renovating there and apparently really ripping things up on some floors. So noise from that could be an issue.

I've had an ongoing issue with tubs that fill with water while showering - the drains never seem to work.

No pool.

Beds are hit or miss. They seem to replace them as needed so you never know if you are going to get a decent one or one with a huge sinkhole in it.

FWIW I've given up staying at the Four Queens, I am finding it too run down and I'm tired of the grubby elevators and broken down bathrooms.

 

Last trip we stayed there but did not gamble there. Rooms were fine for crashing and washing up, that's IT. They also gave us a room that was already checked in.
We walked in and there were already bags on the bed. We mentioned that we should get an upgrade and they brushed us off. Not impressed, but if they have the cheapest rooms on FSE again this Jan Ill book again.
Keep in mind this is an all boys trip and we don't care where we stay as long as I have my own bed and a clean bathroom.

 

I've been doing 2 nights 4Q and 2 nights at the Gold Coast for the past 5 years. That is who's been giving me the best comps. Both are good for what I need. If you want the pool at the 4Q you use Binions pool. Gold Coast has their own pool. Show a different player's card at the 4Q and they will give you $10 free play, once per lifetime. Also ask for a fun book at check in at the 4Q, it has some good stuff. They always say, "I'm not supposed to but..." they end up giving it to me. 2 for 1 coupon at Magnolias on your birthday month. $2 from the airport to downtown via the WAX.

 

Thank you all for the input. The pics really say it all...yes, like a La Quinta or Travelodge. Just fine for me on a solo trip if the bed is decent. Guess I'll just have to see what mattress I get at check-in. South Tower by check-in desk is quieter from FSE but louder on construction noise, pool at Binions, get a coupon booklet. All good info. Gold Coast will probably be better. Thanks again. Personally, I find luxury is nice but free trumps all. I stay on ESTime when in LV so I'm in bed around 7-8pm with the tv on. Up at 3-4am for a quiet start to the day with a coffee and the feeling that the entire casino is there just for me. The best time in Vegas...4-6am. Oh, and having a car and driving out to Summerlin and watching the sun rise over the mountain ridge.

The D has the events center across from 4Q's if something is going on, south tower south facing room will be loud.

 

That's too downbeat. The rooms are basic and clean and the location is PERFECT. Beats paying triple at the Smug Nugget next door.
Just don't expect luxury, pampering, a dolphin show or fountains.

 

4 Queens is pretty basic, but OK. Beds and rooms are OK, but the bathrooms are out of the 70s. Don't try to check in early, the desk clerks get surly.

Gold Coast may be one of the sleepers of cheap off-strip places. I really like the rooms they renovated back in the 2008-09 era. They re-did the rest of the rooms more recently, but I'm not a high on those, even though they are newer. I like the big showers of the older renovations. Went from Aria to Gold Coast one trip and the exact same artwork was on the wall of both rooms. LOL.
