I never heard the term buskers before, but more on Fremont St "buskers"

Fremont Street Experience's famed buskers drive a hard bargain.

After months of tinkering and weeks of contentious debate, Las Vegas council members on Wednesday agreed they weren't quite ready to adopt an ordinance that would restrict when and where buskers could perform underneath the Fremont canopy.

The one hour I spent on Fremont St. was more than enough. Way too many panhandlers and homeless people. The "buskers" situation probably reflects that. I never thought I'd visit a casino district that was that distasteful. And people complain about Atlantic City. Really.

 

I was in Times Square a few weeks ago with my adult daughter, it was very uncomfortable seeing those girls with bikini bottoms and bare breast painted tops. And in all of my visits to Atlanntic City, I was never approached by a panhandler. Can't say the same for Chicago, Baltimore, and New York.

 

The city doesn't need to do anything, if people would stop giving them money, they would go away quicker than anything. Im surprised though, within the tourist areas they allow it. I don't like being bothered in that manner while Im on vacation.

 

The Fremont Experience was funded with public money, therefore a public space. They have been trying for over a decade to get the street "performers" out of there, or at least control them somehow, like this latest effort, but no luck so far.

I don't really care for all of the nonsense that goes on downtown, but I don't let it bother me. It is much worse today than it was 10 years ago, but it doesn't stop me from enjoying downtown at all.

 

I don't have a problem with the Buskers on Fremont Street or the ones that show up on The Strip. In fact, I think they add color and are part of the vibe. Having said that, there's been a few times when I've seen them block sidewalks or other spaces - I don't like that as it can create unsafe conditions.

I can handle some of the buskers, but they are out of control. I totally get if they have to regulate these guys. I don't necessarily want to see them all gone. Get rid of the fat guy with the diaper and clean the dirty costumes, please!

 

I wish they would go away when people ignore them, but when I ignored them, they actually physically touched me to get my attention. It made my skin crawl.

 

I enjoy them and have no problems with them at all.

They really don't bother me.....I may glance out of the corner of my eye and think WTF?.....but no eye contact and have never been harassed by anyone. Not a fan of the people looking for a handout with a dog sitting by them, the women with stage three cancer, the five month pregnant woman, etc..... Staying at the CAL and bouncing between there and MSS.....they really don't affect me either way.

The only ones that bother me are the ones with dogs. There was a lady who used to sit between Cosmo and Crystals with a dog that was always shivering or panting, depending on the season. Last time we were there my husband asked her about her dog and she pretended not to speak English. I shudder to think what happened to that dog.

 

I walked by the gentleman in the wheelchair with the bulldog lying next to him multiple times a couple of weeks ago, and not once did I see Ol' Mathilda take a breath. That dog is too talented to be labelled a busker....she plays dead better than any I've ever seen.

 

First time I had heard the term "Buskers", was when I came to work in Pike Place Market in Seattle 18 years ago. I had to look it up. I would not consider most of the ones on Fremont as true buskers. To be a busker, you have to perform, or exhibit some kind of talent.

 

Yeah, talent does not consistent of putting a diaper on and painting yourself...or most of the other stuff that goes on down there. I ignore it for the most part, but I would be upset if one of them touched me. I'm not touching you, you don't touch me. Hopefully they get rid of them, but I can live with them.

 

Believe me, ignoring them makes no difference.

The moment one decides to leave because they're not making enough money, two more will take up residence. Or they'll try to reinvent themselves and get more aggressive.

 

The ones I can not stand are the beggars with a sign "please help" and you walk by and ignore them and they have the nerve to get belligerent with you. Those people need to go.

 

If they lay their hands on you ---
you would get away with "decking" them.
Plead,they attempted pickpocket or physical assault -- you'd get off. ( need a buddy as a witness )
You'd just have to go thru a lot of police crap - plus court appearance -
on your wonderful Vegas Vacation.
You could certainly say you had a different Vegas Experience.

Rather them then the guys hassling me for free rides to clubs or timeshares. Most of the time at least in my experience they are not harassing you. Some are not pleasant to look at, but hell neither am I.
