Recommend a hotel for an Off-Strip newbie

I'm thinking about doing a split stay for my next trip with at least a couple of nights off-Strip as I want a more relaxing trip this time. I have offers for Orleans and GVR/RR so those are my top choices but I'm willing to look at other options as well. I want a nice room but it doesn't have to be over the top. I would like something with a good variety of restaurants from maybe a steakhouse down to a sandwich or pizza place. A fitness center is a real plus. I'm going to have a car.

For the casino, I'm mostly interested in slots (penny through quarter mostly), VP and craps.

Agreed. I would throw Suncoast in the mix as well. (Below the top tier but major league improvement over the Orleans) Their rooms are surprisingly large and plush and the Summerlin location is top notch.

I really like Palms; great selection of restaurants, the Ivory suite is very nice and staff is super friendly. When I've stayed solo, the bartenders look out for me so you wouldn't have an incident like you had at Cosmo.

 

Indeed. Or SouthPoint. Have stayed at both multiple times. Suncoast certainly wins the locational aesthetic award for the two.

 

Golden Gate suite would be my reccomendation

 

GVR and RR are both very nice and will meet your needs. Easy parking. If you want to get off strip, get way off strip; not Palms, or Gold Coast or Downtown. Get out to where the locals go and away from traffic and congestion.

 

GVR was really nice, but far from anything else. Almost like a Native casino vibe, but the room was fantastic.

 

The locals joints ain't exactly out at the end of some long rural dirt track. Nothing is in Vegas, save maybe LLV.

 

Compared to the Strip, the are. I love the area around Red Rock and SunCoast. A lot less stressful parking and driving out in Summerlin.

 

How about downtown? We love the Golden Nugget. We have been spitting our trips 2 nights on the strip and 2 downtown and really enjoy doing that.

 

I'm ok with the location of RR/Suncoast/ JW Marriott or GVR and I'm seeing the quieter atmosphere as a plus. I'm leaning towards RR since it's comped and the gym looks decent. Plus. I've always enjoyed the RR recreation area. I'm not sure how likely I am to do any hiking this trip but we'll see.

Now I just need to decide if I want to stay on the Strip for the rest or somewhere closer like the Palms or Orleans for the other nights. If my Mlife offers don't improve, the Palms might be worth a shot.

Hogman- I've stayed downtown a few times before but not since 2011 at the GN. I wanted to try off-Strip since I've never done that.

 

OK, Snide, if you think bordering interstates and eight-lane arterials are peaceful, I'll grant you that. lol

But I do know what you mean. We stay off-Strip often, and particularly in Summerlin. It's different, and notably at the JW and Suncoast.

 

Since you have offers from 2 off-strip casinos, go with one. Then visit some of the posters suggestions. Enjoy!

 

I may suggest the Hard Rock. The Rooms in the Paradise or HRH towers are decent. The pool area is good and the restaurant line up is good. It is close to the strip. I have not been to the gym, though.

 

The quiet atmosphere of being off strip is a huge plus. It used to be that only dumps were off strip but not anymore. RR, GVR, M, Suncoast are all very nice. I always rent a car so being 10-15 minutes from the strip is no big deal. I still go to the strip for some shows and food but it's nice not to have to deal with it my whole trip.

 

Another vote for Hard Rock, hopefully after the bar/casino reconstruction is finished though.

Awesome pool area, fast drink service, good restaurant choices, easy parking in/out from paradise garage, felt like a boutique hotel experience with all of the amenities of a larger one.

All that +$10 cab rides to the strip.

 

The top 3 off strip properties are RR, GVR and M. It's a big drop off to the rest IMO.
I'm a big fan of the M but it doesn't have the restaurant selection (and bowling, movies, etc.) that you'll find at RR or GVR.
M staff is much friendlier than RR/GVR in my experience.
Video Poker at M is not as good as RR/GVR but playable.

 

I second the Palms. Pretty relaxing and still close to the strip. Great VP and slots. Cross is just ok... Good food too!
