I'm looking for the better tower and updated rooms and a quiet floor. I've not heard a lot of good things regarding the Masquerade Tower but the others seem to be better. Thanks

I think there are two towers, Ipanema and Masquerade. We stayed at Ipanema last year and liked it. Very quiet. There was a high school football tournament in town staying at the Rio and they put the kids and their families in the Masquerade tower.

    That's about all I know.

I'd be curious to hear about people's experiences as well. Thanks.

Wish I could help with that question and I should be able to having stayed there at least one or two more nights the past 13 years or so...but no complaints on either tower..Lower level comp could very well be Impenama with a view of the Palms and Masquerade with a view of the Gold Coast...I've had strip views also many times..

But I can tell you that the Masquerade tower is a longer walk from check-in front desk through the slot machine floor, keno and the second levels shopping areas.Different banks of elavators and 3 directions to find which is yours to the room..Gotta check the room signs/arrows all the time but no big deal.

Impenma has two elavators (one straight ahead of the gift shop I won't take again as it got stuck on me once and one bank to the left) but that tower is just a hallway off the main casino floor with Starbucks and the gift shop right there..

As far as asking for an upgraded room, mention not wanting the Shower Window where this is or maybe not anymore,an actual window from the bath to the bedroom area..should indicate an upgraded room..
Maybe also ask for a room with a Kuerig coffee maker as it seems some do some don't have them so that could be a good indicater of room 'quality' or upgrades..
But I can say whatever floor/tower they have thrown me in never noisy..but reading here they say stay away from Voodoo lounge and they are the high floors Impenma..
Hope this info helps a bit..GL on your trip!

Never had a problem with Ipanema tower.

Much closer to pool, shuttle bus, casino cage, buffet, Starbucks and larger gift shop/news stand.

Masquerade is closer to Voodo Lounge, Martoranos, Wine Cellar and seafood buffet.

I've stayed in both towers. Personally I prefer the Masquerade Tower rooms even though they are a longer walk from the main desk.

I've also been propositioned at the entry to the Masquerade Tower, and witnessed a sex act near the stairwell 10 yards from my room at the end of the hall. Maybe that's why i like it more LOL.

I've also stayed in both, and both have their pros and cons. I believe the rooms with the shower windows are all in the Masquerade Tower, even to include the renovated Samba Rooms. At least the one I stayed in had it. But I was always alone, so I didn't really care. I've stayed at Rio about 5 or 6 times, like I said in both towers, and renovated and non-renovated rooms, and they all had the Kuerig coffee pots. And I always tip housekeeping and most of the time they would leave extra coffee pods for me, even though I always brought my own.

Stayed at the Rio 3 times the last 2 years, most recently in May. Much prefer Ipanema. Those rooms are nicer. The one exception is the Samba rooms in the Masquerade tower. The regular rooms in the Masquerade have that weird/creepy window in the bathroom wall. Yuck lol. Samba are nice (but also usually more expensive). If you are high up in Masquerade you can get some noise from Voodoo Lounge.

Overall I've found that CET is letting the Rio slide, they don't seem to be putting any/much money into the place. Harrah's is getting a renovation but so far nothing about the Rio. We like Rio because the rooms are large, we prefer staying off strip and they run 2 separate shuttles to/from the strip that are convenient and run frequently. But overall I'm finding the Rio to be getting a bit rundown.

I've stayed at the Rio, in both towers, at least a dozen times. I would suggest the Ipanema tower if you are concerned about noise. However, on my last stay I had a high floor room in the Masquerade tower, but on the western end..away from the Voodoo lounge. Never had any noise issues. The Chinese restaurant by the buffet area seems to be very popular at noon time for their dim sum. Hash House A GoGo is a solid place to have a big breakfast and their seafood restaurant, Buzios, is pretty good also. Their pool area is large, with one pool suitable for children. Plenty of table game offerings, but a decent game of blackjack is hard to find. Like all CET properties, their VP paytables are bad. What I really like about the Rio is their wine cellar. I visit there every time I am in Vegas, whether I am staying at the Rio or someplace else. Very nice relaxing atmosphere and the staff is great. The free shuttle bus to the strip runs about every half hour from 10AM to 1AM. There are two shuttle strip destinations; Bally's and Harrah's. The Rio buffet is not as good as in past years, but still is what I consider one of CET's better offerings. I cannot comment on their Italian restaurant as I have never dined there.

The wine cellar is a place we always mean to stop in but haven't yet. Weird. I've heard nothing but good things about it. Buzios has good seafood. They are a bit pricey. For a long time they were on Groupon, $30 off but it's been awhile since I've seen that deal. Last time we stayed there in May we stayed Sunday-Saturday and Sunday, Monday and Tuesday there were never any $5 craps tables. Even during the day. Very odd. $10 tables empty but they stayed $10. Wednesday and Thursday there were $5 tables during the day and lots of action.

Have stayed at the Rio many times, and will be staying there again in a couple of weeks. I will try not to repeat much of what has already been said about the differences between the two towers, but I do prefer staying in the Ipanema Tower due to it being so close to the table games and main entrance. Have stayed in both towers, and both have been quiet, with the exception of our trip this past April when we were next to a room full of kids whose parents just left them alone in the room all day. We did get moved to a quieter room on the second day. Both rooms were in the Ipanema Tower.

Another tip to insure a quiet room during the day, especially if you like to take mid-afternoon naps.....ask for a room NOT over looking the pool area. The booming music from the pool area makes is really difficult to get a good nap! This goes for both towers.

We prefer the Masquerade tower. We always get a rental car when we stay there though. The parking in the Masquerade garage is fairly convenient to the tower. We have never had any noise issues. If I didn't have a car though, I would probably prefer the Ipanema tower as well.

We always rent a car and were always able to find a spot in the lot right outside the door by where the shuttles come and go. Very convenient. It's a pretty small lot, maybe we just got lucky that we always found a spot.

Heading to the Rio this Sunday-Wed. Will have a car, but asking for the Ipanema Tower based on recommendations. I am looking forward to my stay! Will report back on pros and cons, but very excited! This thread has been super helpful!

Have fun. The Rio isn't what it used to be perhaps but it's still a decent place with some very good rates.

We always rent a car as well, but the thing I don't like about the Masquerade Garage is the weird route you have to take to get to it:

From the elevators, through the Casino level to the escalators up to the second level.
Cross the bridge to the garage, which puts you on the 4th level. If you parked up here, fine, but then you have to wind your way down to get out.
If you parked on the 1st level (like we always do), then take another elevator down to the 1st level.

Even though it is a little bit more of a walk from the Ipanema Tower to the Carnival Garage, I think it is much more convenient to deal with. IMO.

I'm on the 9th floor of the Ipanema tower right now and aside from some wear and tear we are very happy with the room. Super quiet and plenty of space![IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

I've always preferred the Ipanema Tower as it 's much closer to the main casino and the restaurants I'm interested in.
If you're driving, park in the small lot off of Valley View.
