I miss the deli in GG, and they piano player. one of the few things that could get me to slow down in the casino was a shrimp cocktail and a little live piano! Maybe that's why it's gone :)

as for the other items, there are def. things I could do without downtown, but to me there is no better feel of Vegas than being downtown. and yes, I do enjoy a little play at LVC.

So...were any of you degenerates at the LVC $10 two-deck shoe game with me? I played it every day from the 24th through the 27th (February).

I like to hit and run LVC before the measles has a chance to grab hold. I love Binion's but let's work on them changing the carpet first. You could boil that and make some pretty powerful soup.

I played right through the night till 8 am in January. All dancing girls the whole time. They get tired and make mistakes by then though.

Sounds like they are dancing practically around the clock. I feel bad for them but will try and boost their morale during my next trip

I was afraid this was the case.

They're definitely between a rock and a hard place in regards to remodel/tear down and rebuild. I'm wondering if because they do have an asbestos issue how long will they be allowed by law to let things stay status quo even if they do nothing in regards to the vacant hotel?

its not so much that that any asbestos is an issue - that can be dealt with. The bigger problem is who would spend money to remediate the issue when the land that Binions sits on has about 13 different freehold owners. until you can get them all to agree to a long term deal that lets Binions stay there and be able to recoup the costs of a hotel rebuild then theres no possibility of it going ahead. The asbestos is a known and defined issue that can be dealt with - landowners - not so much..

It would seem that the best possible scenario would be for a complete buyout of the property & gaming license.
New owner(s) could then move ahead with gutting the upper floors and start the 'remodel'.

Now, as for the LVC and their rooms?
I fear that something similar will need to happen there as well...somebody committed to restoring that place to its former glory...the sports theme, the rooms, decent food, a full-sized, full-service casino, "the most liberal blackjack in the world"...and get that t-shirt shop off of Fremont and onto the second floor (or back towards the Cal) where it belongs.

The LVC, like Binion's,...and even like the old 'Lady Luck'... can be made to work & be successful. It does, however, take a commitment to do so, as well as patience.
In all seriousness, one could copy the Gold Coast (layout, gambling rules, # of tables, food choices, room quality) and plant it at Binion's, LVC or DTG.... it would work and it would be successful.
Don't believe me? Walk into Gold Coast on a Thursday afternoon & look around. Then walk into any of those three downtown casinos an hour later.

There are still a TON of us who simply want a good, decent property, reasonable prices on stuff, easy comps, low table limits with good rules & staff who seem to actually enjoy having their jobs. Ask the Gold Coast why it is their $5 & $10 two-deck 3:2 pitch games, H17, DAS permitted are busy...and if that generates profit for them.
Then ask why such a setup is missing from downtown.

I certainly don't have the answer to that question.

I used to love LVC. My last trip, I sat with silence surrounding me playing one of my favorite VP games. It saddens me to see what that place has become.

Do I have solutions? Not really and that is the problem. The solutions will be costly and time consuming. I'm not sure the current owners have the financial means to do what needs to be done. I get the impression they bought low thinking of it as a property flip and then got stuck. I will say that virtually every decision for several years has been damaging to the casino which further depresses the value if a sale is the end game.

The downtown casinos need the personal touch of an owner who cares about customers. Gaughan, Exber, Binion knew how to run a casino. Tamares, not so much.

See how much Derek Stephens just being on the floor most of the time has improved the D/Golden Gate.

When I was there this past week, it was almost dead at 7pm. I just walked through it, and left.

Walked over to The D, and saw Derek there like normal for that time of night. He was just talking with a group of people, and joking around with the bartender. Even tossed a bottle for the guy to catch. When I went back over to GG he showed up a little while later. Just in time for me to get 4oak at UTH. :) Maybe he brings me luck.

Its funny to see so many people say what they would do with the place. I am also one of those people! I cant help but think of how i could jazz up the joint whenever I'm in there. I never do so at any of casino anywhere else. Maybe because the LVC actually seems obtainable? I'd make it a Chicago themed casino. Bring a little theming back into vogue. I read somewhere that Chicago is one of the top 10 feeder cities to LV before. Lots of fun things i can do with a theme like that!

I love this idea!! It would be so easy to bring the sports theme back into the mix as well. Put some Ivy on the brick walls and and bring back the upper deck restaurant with an emphasis on the Chicago dog specials. That is the cheap part. Getting the hotel reopened will be the costly piece. Everyone talks about asbestos at Binion's. I would be willing to bet LVC has the same issue.

The memorabilia that Exber had at the LVC was very cool. The Great Moments room was a top notch restaurant too.

Got my first hand pay there on $1 slot about 18 years ago. We stayed there twice and loved it back in the day. Was there in January and walked thru the place and it was fairly busy on a Saturday evening.

I don't think much will happen to the lvc with the current owners. IMHO they will have to sell the place before anything better comes out of it. Like the GG and binions they are going with the sexy dealers but it still doesn't fill up the place like it is at the GG. I honestly don't know if they are making a profit with all the employees they have to pay but not a large crowd gambling there. I visited the place last week, I could count the number of people on the machines at 3pm on 1 or 2 hands.

I agree with others, for the right price (cheap) I would stay at the LVC. Not that I would play much there but at least the nightly rate was decent and a good deal. Guess they couldn't justify paying the staff needed to keep the hotel side operational.

The only true Chicago style deep dish pizza in Nevada! People around the world have heard of it, few of them actually make their way to Chicago. So they can get a slice downtown. I'll have Giordano's take a space for free for one year to bring people in the joint. Monsters of the Midway bar, Butkus and Sayers are always in LV doing signings in the mall I'll have them set up shop for free. So many options.

As for the hotel I'd take it floor by floor...
