A listed phone number!!!!! It seems that in 2001, Las Vegas had more (per capita) unlisted phone numbers than anywhere else in the nation.

I hope everyone enjoyed this post.:peace:

    I call Foul.

    Do they make phonebooks anymore?
Who still has a home phone?

It's a little like saying Las Vegas had fewer chimneysweeps per capita in 1937 than any other city.

Yes they still make phone books. We have 3 different ones delivered to the house each year. Out of habit, one usually goes in the car, but I can't say I've ever used it. The others go in the recycling bin.

And yes, we still have a home phone line with an answering machine! We also have wireless handsets in every room. Except for vacations, my cell phone is in my car year round and usually turned off.
We're not Ludites, but survive quite nicely w/o being tied to the cell phone.

Great game VWNut! It may have taken another month or so and a few clues before we came up with that answer!

At least I can get a good nights sleep tonight. Went to bed at 10 last night thinking of this, finally got up at midnight and googled some ideas, went back to bed, got up at 2 to google some more and cursed myself for being so silly! Spent the entire night dreaming of asphalt shingles, aluminum siding and bumble bees. I've learned more about Vegas over the course of this game than I ever need to know.

BTW - Bees aren't that common in Vegas except in March and April when it's swarming season for African Killer bees. Mosquitoes are rare.

    Thanks for the fun!

What's the reason that LV has the most unlisted phone numbers per capita?

I'm curious too. Are the numbers unlisted because people have asked that their land lines aren't listed or are they unlisted because more people have cell phones there rather than landlines, compared to other cities. Vegas is fairly transient I think so it's probably the latter.

Put me in the camp of having a landline, answering machine and 2 phone books delivered yearly. I can easily go 3 or more days without checking my cell for messages.

Because if you are an actor in a show, casino executive, casino host, drug dealer, celebrity, dancer, pro gambler, cop, or hooker, you probably don't want your name and home address in the phone book.

It's something that CET charges $25 per night for the pleasure of using the house phone...............because we demand it!!

I would think that many people in Beverly Hills and other affluent cities would fit the category of executives (or anybody with money) who do not want their phones listed. They probably also have people in those professions you listed.
