Well that sucks.

I understand the thought process behind it though. Just have to get more creative or hit the little shops for tallboy cans to walk and sip

 

doesn't say anything about aluminum cans or aluminum bottles, other than they banned cans on Freemont Street....yup I hope casino's & bars will start serving tall boys & aluminum bottles

I hope this isn't headed toward the same rules as Fremont. I can see banning bottles, but I would hate if they banned aluminum cans as well.

 

It will be interesting to see how they enforce this rule; they will need cops every 100 feet on the weekends. From what changes I have seen in the Strip clientele the last 5 years (especially late night weekends), glass bottles would appear to be a relatively minor concern to police.

Yeah I think the paper or plastic only applies in lieu of taking glass containers.

Otherwise they will need cops every few feet like tex mentions. And the sales from the stripfront places like Walgreens and CVS would plummet because people go in there to buy a tallboy or two for the hike down the strip

 

I remember on my first visit around 2000 there was a vendor on the top of the walking bridge between NYNY and Excalibur selling various ice cold beers in plastic bottles. I thought it was the best thing in the world and really what started my love of Vegas (even though I've since heard that this might not have been a particularly legitimate vendor, oh well.) I don't think that glass is that big of a deal in a beer bottle, certainly not enough to worry that the switch-over to plastic is going to cause a riot.

Now, walking out of a casino with one of their glasses might become an issue. I could imagine some of the casinos moving over to a fairly solid clear plastic cup, instead. Not like a Solo cup or anything, but a good plastic tumbler can feel close enough to glass that it wouldn't be a huge deal for a switch-over.

And that'll be the thing: is the pressure going to be put on the individuals or the casinos? If it's on the casinos then they'll just gradually switch over, for the most part, maybe keeping glass in certain areas but switching to plastic cups for most purposes. If it's on the individual I'm sure there'll be some effort to ease the transitions from inside the casino to outside, such as plastic cup dispensers by the door, but, yeah, it's going to suck if people start getting dinged for walking out of a casino with a glass in their hand.

Personally, this doesn't bother me at all. I mean, I'm all for nostalgia and whatnot, but the difference between feeling glass or plastic in my hand doesn't change things enough for me to care. Especially above the safety aspect for broken glass.

For on The Strip I don't think this is going to affect me at all, compared to Downtown.

When Downtown I like to putter around on Fremont Street and people watch and check the stores out or go in and out of the casinos... I am very likely to visit one of the stores and pick up a can of beer and then wander around some more drinking it.

For me that is a lot less likely to happen on The Strip: there aren't that many stores in the main clusters of hotels where you can just pop in and buy a beer, and when I get a drink in a casino its either at a bar, where I will often just sit and finish my drink - hence why I am at a bar in the first place, or from a cocktail waitress while I am playing and in that case I will usually just keep on playing.

I also think too that the size of the resorts on The Strip come in to play: if you are a big resort like Caesars or Mirage or MGM Grand and get a drink in the casino and start walking to The Strip thats often a pretty big trek to go through the casino, down the driveway/entrance area and finally get on to the sidewalk where the law would be enforceable - by then my drink is probably either gone or its starting to get warm

 

For those lookin' for somethin' new to get worked-up over, this may fit the bill... for most others, I think it's no big deal at all.

 

I'm curious as to the stats of injuries due to broken glass on the strip. Are there really enough people being injured by broken glass to justify new laws? Is this the best use of law enforcement time? Seems like there is a shooting or stabbing daily in that town. inviting millions of adults to your town and then treating them like children isn't a good wat to keep them coming back.

 

Doesn't affect me! I buy a couple El Presidente Margaritas to go from Border Grill, after having a couple or three as a way to tune up. Served in plastic cups and with Cazadores Tequila it definitely does the trick! Kinda lightens my wallet though...

 

I understand why but with all the people drinking and stuff I never really seen any issues or broken glass unless they clean it up quickly.

 

A county that let's folks walk around drinking booze along public thoroughfares is "treating them like children"?

 

All booze must be stowed in the overhead bins before departure along the Strip.

Yes. Treating them like children. Waiting until laws and regulations affect you directly isn't a very wise way to judge them. Banning glass for safety reasons may sound great if you drink out of plastic cups, but I would bet more people are injured on the strip each year by slipping and falling. So maybe every drink should be served in a sippy cup so it can't be spilled. Maybe just banning any liquids on the strip all together. It is a matter of safety.

 

Folks just be watering that Tree of Liberty, obviously.
