C'mon you guys, you're sounding old and cranky.:poke:
I don't like the construction right now on Fremont, but the zip line doesn't bother me.

If I wasn't comped at Boyd, I'd sit outside at the other places, drink and people watch. The firepit at GN looks nice and so does the outside area at Four Queens.

I have never been harassed or accosted by a beggar on Fremont and neither has my wife!

Thanks, I don't like that hole in the roof idea.

Unless they've not gotten to installing the west-most landing structure I have a hard time believing it will go to the Golden Gate. The construction between the 4Q and Fremont has a different layout for the mid-point landing and there's nothing like this on the west end where you would need much more support for the longer zip lines.

Are you saying the construction in front of the Golden Gate is the landing for the new zip line?

I thought this was going to become a permanent stage???

I think it's supposed to be a combo main stage and zip line structure.

Sorry, Joe ... but I AM old & cranky, and I do NOT like what I'm seeing !! AND, I am not happy seeing Fremont Street turned into a giant carnival. That is not old-time Vegas, which is what a lot of people want.

My partner doesn't want to stay on Fremont anymore because of the changes, and he's given up on the strip, too. These days it's Rio and Gold Coast. I've moved over to El Cortez for my solo trips, and haven't been in Plaza for so long (and it was my go-to destination). Maybe will try Main Street or California if Cabana Suites starts a resort fee as I suspect it might.

I want old-time Vegas also. I used to go to the Strip if I wanted a carnival atmosphere. Now the carnival has arrived downtown.

And I do find myself going less and less to the Fremont Canopy these last past trips. Just not the same. Maybe after all the construction dust dissapears I'll go take a look at the "new" Fremont "Experience". I don't think I'll be thrilled.

I'm an old fart. Why can't old farts have their own little place in Vegas? That was Downtown's unique identity. A little laid back, casual, no-frills gambling destination with friendly, fun-loving dealer/employees and low-limit games.

Will we even be able to see any shows under the canopy after that monstrosity is built?:Þ

like sam said even gold coast is looking better all the time.

nice older casino, good eats and rio and palms a few steps away and free shuttle to orleans and the strip.

the pool at gold coast is no hell but it is a 5 minute shuttle ride to the orleans which has a really nice pool area.

fremont is so mobbed all the time in the evenings sometimes it is just too much especially with all the space they are taking away.

we all like to be where things are happening but not all the time at least not me anyway.

This thread really has turned into "curmudgeon corner" and I know you guys deserve respect, but I just don't think old dudes who basically wanna be left alone and play in a casino with no music, demanding cheap eats and basic no frills rooms and ride the bus around town pays the bills for these joints anymore.

I hardly fall into that category. I'm relatively young, have lots of money to spend, and do many many activities while in town. I'd just like to be able to walk around and actually get where I'm going without crawling over, under, through and around construction barriers. Hell, you can't even walk down the east side of the strip anymore without having to actually go into one side of The Quad, cutting through the casino, and exiting the north end. That's absurd!

    I agree with you, Sam.

We had so much fun downtown last year. Will probably stay there again next year when the construction is finished under the canopy.

P.S. I have my cat food packed for the cat on the bridge. Hope I don't see any more cats afterward because I'm giving it all to the one.

Sorry, "she" as the owner, Sly is male. And he was very gentle and let me stroke his head. That's one thing you don't see downtown is the homeless crowd with animals. I'm not sure how some of those people stay on the overhead strip bridges in that sunlight all day. I've been tempted to bring tubes of sunscreen for them.
