    Sam,
Just bring them one of those cheap Elvis wigs instead; there seems to be lots of them around!

My Facebook Comment was replied to by Fremont Street Experience

    Sam Novak>Fremont Street Experience

Very disappointed with all the construction, chaos, and noise going on at Fremont this summer, stretching from one end to the other. I'll be avoiding it, unfortunately. Bad move, FSE. With all the kiosks, outdoor bars, peddlers, beggars, costumers and construction, there is barely enough room to stand anymore.

Fremont Street Experience>Sam, I can definitely understand that. The construction was necessary to build the SlotZilla attraction, but it is very obtrusive. It should be complete my mid-summer late June-ish and the layout for the permanent zipline towers are actually smaller than the current layouts. And we feel outdoor bars are a part of the progress as well.

Fremont Street Experience> However, we do not support the peddlers, beggars or costumers. It is something that the 9th district court has tied our hands with. I guess it is "Freedom of Speech" to beg for money regardless of whether you are costumed or not or performing a service or not. It is very unfortunate.

Well, "smartone" ... I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on all of this, seeing as how everyone is allowed their personal opinions.

However, maybe you should go ask those casino owners whether they want the "old dudes", who cycle $35K to $40K duing a trip, OR ... the "carnival attractions" that drive us away .....

Not to be dick, but who do you think is behind the "carnival attractions" coming to the FSE?

That being said I am not sure if I like it or not. We will be there in June, at that point I will see it all for myself.

Here is an animated version of the finished ride. It shows two seperate rides: A Zip Line and a Zoom Line. The Zip Line ends at the Fremont\4Q landing with the Zoom line ending on top of the new Main St Stage.

It doesn't show any holes in the canopy as that previously linked article stated but this link is a cartoon so who knows.

Well, "Iron" ... that's pretty much the point of my previous comment. Does anybody know for a fact, how much the casino properties are putting into the FSE to bring these attractions ? Do these same casino properties have any estimates of how much ($$) they stand to gain from the addtional people drawn to these attractions ? And lastly, how much does that compare to the potential loss of the "old curmudgeon dudes" that do cycle $35K to $40K per trip ? Possibly there are no answers to my above questions ... but there should be .... :confused2:

"Budda" , do you think this is happening against the casino owners will?

You said someone should ask the casino owners who they value more. whether we agree with them or not, I believe they have spoken....

It is my understanding that FSE is a co-op type funded operation and all the downtown casinos are part of it, except ElCo. Don't know about Mermaids, Glitter Glutch and Bayou. But I think the major players fund this entire thing, so it wouldn't be against their will.

I don't think that the plaza is included either, as you can see by the way they are being iced out of it all.

as for the EC, they weren't included IMHO because the FSE doesn't extend down to that area. the neonopolis kind of cuts them off from the FSE things. they are part of the fremont east I think but I doubt there would be a FSE down there unless there is more development in the area (new casinos, etc.) with zappos owning the western area I doubt there would be more gambling in the area, again IMHO.

The Plaza is so forgettable these days, but I think you are correct. They don't participate in the FSE.

Yes, very unfortunate. So, is the Fremont Experience a private property? And if it is, does this "Freedom of Speech" allowable on private property?

You know why they say "Don't feed the pidgeons". If you do the next day there's more....

    Could it be?

Street right-of-ways are bought all the time. As a matter of fact, 3rd St is private, and the new Downtown Grand will have outdoor gaming on 3rd St once it opens.

I am downtown now, enjoying $1 coffee and free WiFi at The Beat.

Yep, the downtown construction sucks. I think the new zip line will be an improvement vs the current temporary structure (looks horrible), but no zip line would be even better. I actually like the outdoor bars; they look good and don't use much space.

My next trip is in early July. Hope all this nonsense in complete by then.

    Also- no free downtown WiFi.....yet.

Interesting "logic" by the 9th Circuit & the ACLU.
But, OK...for the sake of argument, let's accept their ruling as "reasonable".
I happen to know for a fact that unwanted physical contact can be construed as "assault".
so, if a porn-slapper makes contact with my person in his attempt to force his prostitution-ad/flyer on me, will the ACLU & the 9th Circuit be there to support me in my charges of assault?
    Somehow, I doubt it.
What we need is a clearer, more specific ruling that addresses what IS and what IS NOT "protected expression".
And by "clear", I mean that they need to actually spell out what types of intrusive, unwanted behavior is illegal. I would think they could start with unwanted physical contact, impeding free movement on a public pedestrian walkway, intentionally obstructing traffic & verbal threats of any kind. Those things alone (if enforced) would solve the huge majority of the problems we all encounter with these folks.

Again, somehow I doubt that the ACLU and the 9th Circuit give a damn about protecting the citizenry from such crimes. They seem to be all about enabling them.

Dude... seriously? This thread has gone from cat-food to challenging the 9th Circuit Court. Holy smokes it's all over the place!

I've said this before...The construction going on right now on Fremont does suck and inhibit foot traffic a bit, but where is everybody running into all these panhandlers etc?

While I may look like a mean dude, my petite wife has no problems on Fremont by herself.

Just walk past the guys with the signs, even if they are in a wheelchair:poke:

Doesn't answer my question at all.

Couldn't the FSE group that pays into (I forget what its officially called, but is made up of most of the casinos not named The Plaza) petition the city or county to privatize the thoroughfare itself... make it a private land that is owned by the FSE group.

In my neck of the woods, developers do it all the time. They create an office park or mall project, and as part of it they permanently close down some roads, create new private roads, and turn existing public right-of-ways into private roads... all worked on with the cooperation of the developer, city and county.
