We are going in December and staying at Southpoint for the first time. I am anxious to hear your impression of it. We've been Orleans regulars for many years, but decided to try something different. We visited Southpoint last couple trips and liked it there so thought we would try staying there. We drive to Vegas so transportation isn't an issue.

Hope you're dates aren't during the rodeo. It is absolutely mobbed for those dates.

I hope it's not either lol. We usually go the same time and stay at The Orleans and we see them the Sunday when we check in and then they are gone. We are going from the 11th and leaving the 16th. Unless they changed the dates, we have always missed the rodeo.

Rodeo ends on 12/10. I love Vegas the week after the Rodeo.

Me too. We have found that to be the quietest week there in December. The front desk at The Orleans said the following week (Christmas) is also really busy. This week looks like a nice break between the rodeo and Christmas. Hope it's the same for our stay at South South Point.

Has the policy for getting drink comps for Sports/ Horse bets, been reestablished as we hit the latter part of Covid?

    can anyone confirm?

    Thanks

I've stayed there probably 15 times in the last 12 years or so. Currently can get a comp of one of those 25th floor 2-bedroom suites (going in Oct). Haven't stayed in a regular room for quite some time.

What made me pause and think about your post is what one thing would make it the Holy Grail of casinos (although it kind of already is for me). I really wish they had a legit sports bar, basically like the 777 at Main Street Station. I do love their dining but sometimes you just want to sit and watch some games and have a beer and nachos. And yeah the sports book is adequate but that's not exactly the same.

I've been to South Point many times on my various trips but this time will be my first staying there. I'm looking forward to it.

Maybe I am the oddball but I have not had any issues getting room charges taken off on the heels of winning trips at SP. I have not asked for food to be taken off as I venture all over town to eat and if I do eat at SP, I use stored up points.

I haven't had an issue with backend comping on winning trips either, but I also don't ask for much.

I'm just going to stop complaining, not care and pay out of the winnings..
Everything else there is too good to boycott them for that comp policy, which kiiind of makes sense,
and yes, the point earning rate and promos are nice kickers.

also protip, you can always ask for a pit comp if you spend some time at the tables and maybe schmooze the pitboss a little..
They've always been pretty generous with a few hours of play in (unless you won).
They usually ask if it's for 1 or 2 and it's usually (IIRC/IME) $30 each.
I admire the oldschoolness of them still doing that.

and IMO its a safe bet after a losing session, whereas you may not catch the backend if it turns to a winning trip.

There is also a house phone just outside the player's club booth which is a hot line to a slot host. If you've been playing slots or VP, you can call a slot host for a food comp.

Is $10 the bj minimum or do $5 tables still exist? What is the minimum in the evenings - higher?

    VPdevotee,

When I was there in May they still had $5 blackjack most weekdays, at least in the morning. Sometimes several tables of it. And amazingly, I even found and played at a $5 Pai Gow table. Definitely thought that was dead!

I was there this AM. They had one $5 shoe BJ game and 2-3 $10 double deck with the cut card just barely past halfway. The $5 table was full, the others were not.

That’s what that phone is for? I always just go to the host office and talk to a host. I will have to remember that for next time. Also, who would be a good host to contact or stay away from?

Stay away from Pam Wisdom. I've had good success with Jen Dean. I've heard good things about Michelle.

Curious if you can expound a little more on the "stay away from Pam" comment. I always worked with Roxy, and for the upcoming October trip I have I sent an e-mail and asked for a 2-bedroom suite on the top floor. She approved that immediately. Not that that means anything in particular, but I'm curious as to what makes one host better than another
