for some reason snakes are a huge issue this year. Alot of people coming in asking for snake repellent (nj). Ive seen tons of foxes this year. Deer also, almost hit one the same damn night I picked up my new car from the dealer...oh I woulda been so mad....
I had another garter snake in my living room yesterday morning. Cute little guy. That's the 4th snake I've had in my house this year in north Florida (2 eastern garters, 1 nerodia, and one juvenile cottonmouth). I bought my house a little over 11 years ago and never had a single one until this year. I think the snake proletariat is revolting!
My neighbor and I provide a bear smorgasbord. After digging up and then supping on mole tartare in my backyard, he climbed over the fence to enjoy fresh apples for dessert. A fresh, well balanced diet is so important to keep fur shinny and teeth and claws sharp and hard.
I live in the city, so it's just squirrels, the usual insects, the occasional garden snake, and mice if you're unlucky. Parks and wooded areas might see foxes, rabbits, and coyotes. Nothing too crazy where I am.
Wildlife? Like this... Oh you mean... the animals... We’ve got as many raccoons as peeps here in the Big Smoke and Foxes and Coyotes have encroached in the train track, right of ways.
Encountered this guy during my morning walk with my grandson Max today...a timber rattlesnake...the joys of country living
I nearly skipped this thread, because wildlife, in the context that the OP was posting, is a single word. I though that she was asking about "wild life" (like party on, man). As fare as wildlife goes, all I have is feral cats and the occasional skunk Yesterday, I watched an interaction between two of the neighborhood cats in my backyard. One was on top of the fence, and one was on the ground in my yard. I don't know if they were in a mating ritual or what. They were definitely "talking" to each other, they didn't seem to be arguing. The one on the ground was moving kind of slow, and I thought it might be sick or something. They stayed like that for awhile, then I was called to my PC for work. When I came back to my room, they were both gone.
Herds of deer live in our neighborhood, the dad has lived around here for years, his son showed up earlier this year. We have 5 or 6 doe and fawns lounging in our yard a couple times a week as they make their way to a nearby park. Papa deer: This not so little guy was born this year A few more bucks
For a suburban/exurban neighborhood, we have very few stray or feral cats, if any. All cats on the block that I know of, including mine, are inside cats. I very seldom see skunks, but you do smell them when they get hit by cars.
May I ask, where about? I'm on the Morris County/Warren County border. So much on the border, that I live in one county but my mailing address/post office is in the other, lol.
Our area is devoid of deer even though deer hunting is huge in Texas. I think the issue is that we are surrounded by tons of cotton fields and there is little cover for them to hide in. As these areas convert to housing developments of various types, I am betting the increase in plants for them to eat (the do eat cotton but it appears not to be a favorite if other stuff is around). They are already getting closer but I have not seen one within a mile or two of here in any direction in the 16 years we have lived here. Cotton is important to our local economy but housing makes the land owners money they thought they would never see...those that bought acreage years ago for hundreds of dollars an acre...or had land passed to them...hold out for a while, but the offer soon becomes too sweet... I love to hunt so I do see hundreds of deer on the ranch we got to that is 30 miles from the house. I will easily see 60-70 in a two or three hour period. Our wildlife consist of birds, squirrels, opossums, armadillos, and little stuff like that. We think a bobcat or coyote attacked one of our cats a few years ago and we saw one coyote near here.
I live in Bordentown. I’ve been here 10 years, before was Edison. I’ve also lived in Elizabeth and Jersey city. I’m a limo driver, so I’m all over NJ, even the rural areas, and I’ve never seen a bear.
You are lucky!!! Granted this picture was from August 25, 2016 but we've seen plenty since. This is in my back yard... I am a bear-a-phobe. We've got plenty of them up this way
Wow. That would scare the crap out of me. I once was in a few feet of a skunk, and I froze up, then ran in the opposite direction. Fortunately he didn’t spray me.
