Back in late April I busted a toe when I dropped a sheet of plywood on it. Damn thing still hurts. Two weeks later I was at the Renaissance hotel in Nashville (funny, I'm in Nashville again but in a different hotel) and since the toe was still bleeding had to wash it and put antibiotics, new bandage on it. Was trying to make it from the bathroom to the bed to do this and while doing so stepped on something in the carpet. On my heel was a Xanax pill! Stupid a-hole that left it and same for the maid that did a crappy job cleaning. Long story about that dump of a hotel, worst Renaissance in the Marriott chain in my opinion.

I walk in socks or barefoot in hotels. Not a germaphobe but then I have an IR camera with me at all times and can detect things like wet carpet, foreign objects and I do inspect my room.

The 15th floor of this hotel got flooded 1 am Monday morning when a dumbass used the sprinkler as a coat hanger! Over 400 gallons of water went as far as the sixth floor. Close to $500K damage. I have images, writing a blog article but not identifying the hotel out of courtesy to them. They've been great to work with. The cleaning and restoration company, that's another story.

    Great subject!

I can verify this, especially AFTER I have stayed in a Vegas room. [emoji12]

Flip flops. Hotels are the only place I wear them.

On the other hand, if I found a Xanax stuck to the bottom of one of 'em, 80% chance I'd eat it. :evillaugh

I can't say I've ever really worried about it. Great thread though, very entertaining :).

Due to my neuropathy I get freezing cold feet so I don't go barefoot anywhere anymore. I don't really worry about the germs/dirt on the floor. I do however pack hospital socks, the ones with the little grippers on the bottom. I put these on every night. I have been in some hotels (South Point) that have the most slippery bathroom floors I have ever seen. I would wipe out if walking with stocking feet on some of them. If I worried about all the bacteria in the carpet I wouldn't stay anywhere. My pool loving sister is having second thoughts about our upcoming trip because I teased her about people puking, peeing in the pools in Vegas. There are germs everywhere.

No germaphobe here. I bring flip-flops for going to the pool, but go barefoot in the room. If I thought about the abundance of germs on the floor, coffeemaker, casino chips, cards, doors, railings, virtually everything, I'd probably go even more nuts than I already am!

I bring along slippers but it's more for comfort than fear of buggies in the carpeting.

Never gave it much of a thought. But if you are worried about that I'd be more worried about ever touching a chip with your hands! :yuck: Or touching money for that matter.

I've never given it any thought... I typically keep my socks on in the room, but then when I shower, I'll come back into the room barefoot... so, there's that...plus, I'm barefoot in the shower...and since, at my age, I'm up at least three times during the night to piss, I'm sure as hell not putting on slippers or socks to do that!

I try not to worry about such things... I will admit, however, that I've developed the habit of washing my hands before & after urinating when using casino restrooms during blackjack/UTH play... the "before" is just because I start thinking about the chips & cards & cash... but I'm not a germaphobe at all... that's really my only germ-quirk.

I wear my Red Rock Hotel provided slippers.
We stayed there a few years ago.
I brought home a couple "freebies" for my future Vegas trips.

I also bring flip flops for the pool.
Just read an article that flip flops in a shower WILL NOT PREVENT FOOT FUNGUS.
Okay ?.............I'll still wear 'em in a public( always ) / hotel ( sometimes ) shower.

Now..........about those hotel bed spreads !

Never thought about it. I live in a house with 3 cats and a dog, and no matter what there is animal hair, so, hotel room carpet is generally awesome. Thought I was in heaven walking on Cosmo's carpet barefoot, frankly.

In my 20's I worked as a housekeeper for a year, and the carpet and floor are the least of your troubles, at least where i worked. We always ran the vac, so you could see the lines in the carpeting, and cleaned the bathroom floors and surfaces so they were free of hairs. As a guest, what concerns me is the bedspread and bedding. Don't like this new trend of having to request your sheets be changed. Just change them each time dammit! Hotel bedspreads gross me out as I know how infrequently they are washed. Most of the time I won't even use one. Blech!

I wear flip flops all week long in Vegas in the summer. I love flip flops!
Though in the room... I just walk barefoot. I didn't really think about it until now....

Many years ago, we moved into a new apartment. I'm walking around barefoot and manage to get a rusty staple in my foot. I know I'm the kind of person who would find the one rusty staple out of millions of square feet of carpet. However, trip to the urgent care and tetanus shots and limping for a few weeks. Cured me of walking barefoot anywhere I don't know every square inch of the carpeting. Just fyi.

I am as big a germaphobe as anyone.

However, being relaxed and being able to walk around in my bare feet trumps my fear of any germs on the carpet.
