This is a question for those of us who visit Vegas more than once a year.

    1. Why Vegas ?
    2. Do you visit any other places ?
    3. What makes it SO much fun ?

I have read a couple of posted trip reports that were bad; and was thinking to myself - why do we keep coming back to Vegas.?

Now that most states have some form of casino boats, or gaming facility - most of us repeat visitors must be coming to Vegas for more than Gambling.

I know my GF and I continue to visit Vegas for that "I'm one of them" feeling. We stay at nicer hotels, usually dine at one or two fine dining restaurants.

    5 reasons.

    1. Gambling
    2. Food
    3. Entertainment
    4. Relaxation
    5. Lots of people from all over the place.

Excluding the gambling, Vegas is actually the cheapest destination I have been to, given the level of food and entertainment.
Coming from SoCal, Vegas is also a destination I can decide on at the last minute and not have to plan out for.

Yes, many States have casinos now, but truth is...it ain't Vegas! I have many local casinos to choose from and I only hit them up if I only have a full day or less to gamble...otherwise, I'd rather be in Vegas.

Well I go once a month for work, but ALWAYS include "fun-time" and tack a day or two on for that. I live in Nevada, so if it was just about shovin' some money in a machine, hell I can do that at the drug-store. Correct... gaming in many forms is available in most parts of the country now, but Las Vegas is the Mecca for gaming, entertainment and fun!!! There's no other place like it... I love the plane into Las Vegas, though mine is mostly from Reno, I often fly in from other areas. Just a couple weeks ago I flew into Vegas from Denver and the WHOLE plane was electric with excitement... several 20 something girls in front of me arriving for a clubbing weekend, an older couple behind me was talking about staying downtown and their plans. I just love the excitement and energy the town offers!

Here here! Flights in are always awesome! Flights out are usually a different picture. When I fly, I like to get to the gate as close to departure time as possible. Its depressing getting to the gate early and seeing all the down faces.

On the flip side of this, as I exit the plane in Vegas after my arrival, I look at all the down faces and it gets me that much more excited that my trip is "just starting." Kind of sadistic, but it is what it is.

    1. Because it was fun. We liked to gamble -- but only in Nevada. I was writing a lot about Vegas at the time, so that was a natural. Food. Suspension of reality. And like many/most, we certainly bought into the wonderful denial aspects of Vegas -- the casino-values-me crap, the my-host-likes-me crap, the entertainment-subsidizes-my-vacation crap, etc.

    2. We travel all over. Not as much or as widely as we'd like, but far more than your average bear. Life without travel would suck.

I've only flown into Vegas a few times, but I've seen that forlorn/woeful/why me? look, and we'd really experience it with all the a-holes driving back on the 15. You know, I've never seen anyone flying home from Banff or Auckland or Kauai looking like vacay just sucked.

I go several times a year because I'm addicted! Well, not really – I can quit any time. :D But without trying to sound too cutesy, I go mainly because I can! And including the gambling, it's about the cheapest "vacation" there is. Rooms are usually free or heavily discounted, most meals are comped, and it's good to get aired out every now and then. Sometimes I win and sometimes I lose, but it's seldom much in either direction. I'd like to return to scuba diving, but going to Vegas is much cheaper, comfortable, and routine.

5 million people come to Vegas a year. You trip truly is what you make of it. If you come to vegas and have no club where to go, how to get there it makes for a learning experience. That's why blogs and messageboards are good..

you have some of the best shows in the country
some of the coolest attractions in the world
you can drink and party nearly 24 hours
some of the best food in the world
    Gambling

For me, its the variety. I can have a pool trip, a gambling trip, a walk-around trip, a sports-betting trip, a casino-hop trip...all having unlimited access to lots of drinks and a huge selection of restaurants. And can basically do it on whatever budget I decide I want to spend. Not many other places you can do that.

True. people think I can charge room and air and take $100 a day for everything thing else. hmm wonder why your trip was so bad. when I have friends come out I tell them at least $100 a day for booze,$50 a day for food, $20 a day for taxis. That whithout gambeling, shows or clubs.

There is alot to do in a fairly small space.

You can drink at 8am and no one looks at you funny.

It is very affordable. i could never afford to stay in a hotel in san diego where i live.

I have looked in to other places but the hotel prices just put them out of reach.

Well first of all its close to me being in Socal. So that helps.

There is no other place in the world that you can go to that you really havent been everywhere and experience everything. It feels like visiting a new city everytime.

I've been all over the world from Tokyo, Mexico City, Toronto, London, Tahiti, Bermuda, Cayman and dozens of other great places.
But I feel like I've seen what I needed to see at those places. I mean it would be nice to go back again but to me, theyre a one time thing to see in my lifetime.

Vegas is that vacation that always feels like home away from home. And it helps that the accomodations are very affordable. Dining choices are endless. The strip is just the beginning as far as dining. If you havent explored off strip, then thats another bunch of trips on its own already.

Freedom to do anything you want at any time you want (just about), besides the other things previously mentioned.

Nothing new to add, but many of the posts capture the "why" Vegas. I love the whole aspect of planning return trips, what I want to do the next time that I didn't have time to do this time, having a different theme; dining one trip, shows the next, helicopter tours and sight-seeing on another. We could go out to a very nice dinner or show near home, but it's just completely different when we can return to a kick-ass room at the end of the night and have everything fresh and clean. Since we caught the Vegas "bug" a couple of years ago we can hardly stand not having a trip planned every two to three months. The next few months we'll be visiting October, November, December and again in February...maybe I'll need to start looking for a January trip...

You ever have a favorite restaurant.

Where you either have the same meal everytime you go there or have your rotation of choices you like.

Vegas is kinda of like that but with a big menu. Theres so many great things to try so its neverending on how many times you will want to go. You can keep coming back and doing the same thing you enjoy, but once in a while you'll try something different. But the cycle repeats again and you miss the main thing you loved coming back for so you have that again.

Ya Vegas is like that. :) Thats the best way I can describe it.

Las Vegas is the only city I know of that is always in a constant state of change.
There's something new and different on every visit. And it's a fun place to visit!

Here we have maybe 1 good show per month or 2, in Vegas i can see 4-5 in a week.

Cheap hotels compared to other big cities

Love gambling but all the machine here sucks

Lots of food/hotel/shopping /show option all in walkable distances

Just to put in perspective on my situation, Living on the East coast, nearest casino is Foxwood/Mohegian Sun, 6 hr RT drive, but the Conn. casinos can run me 150 a night for rooms if during the week and weekend prices are insane. I can get comped Rooms in AC, however, 16 hour RT drive on the best of days usually closer to 18 hours. And I have to say AC is no Vegas in comparison. Cheaper for me to Fly out to Vegas RT flight 12 hours, 4-5 days no room charges, some of the best in dining, shows, pools, concerts ,people watching. Much more to do off strip with Hoover Dam, Grand Canyon etc. and if I hit the airfare right $250 PP, RT, If you can keep your losses to a min (or even win something) cheapest and most fun vacations you can have

For me it's simple: cheap travel and lots to do, whether traveling solo or otherwise. I do both.

I like to gamble, but it's a small part of my trip. I keep going back because when I go, it's typically in the 70s or warmer in the desert, yet not so warm in God's country. I find a lot to do, time and time again, that I can't do elsewhere or I enjoy doing repeatedly. (Yes, I can see shows in other cities, but some shows I can only see in Vegas. Yes, I can play pinball in other cities, but some machines I can only play in Vegas.)

I do travel occasionally to other cities, but Vegas provides a lot of appeal time and time again, so I'm not highly interested in trying out San Antonio, for example. (That's where my girlfriend wants to go. Eventually I'll have to consent.)
