High rollers

I am a low roller and am going to Vegas next week. One of the things I really want to see is watch some very high rollers. What hotels/games/areas should I go to see this. Is a certain time better? Am I even allowed to watch the high limit tables if I am not gambling?

Also, is this something that is frowned upon? Any help is appreciated

 

Most real High Roller games are in a high roller area, and spectators are frowned upon

 

Some places are a little easier to watch than others.

The Bellagio Baccarat room on a Saturday night will be busy and is probably your best bet to watch for a little bit. There's also some blackjack tables on the main floor that will have $300 mins some nights and you could probably get away with watching as long as you don't hover.

In general most players prefer privacy (particularly if they are playing by themselves) so you'll want to look for a crowded high stakes game. Perhaps make it seem like you're waiting for a spot.

I wouldn't plan an evening around it though.

 

that's not really true. if you're quiet and unobtrusive, you can stand and watch any table you want. just don't crowd the table and the players and you'll be fine. your best bet is to watch a full table as there are a bunch of people at the table and are usually others standing around anyway, so you'll blend in. just stay away from a reserved table off to the side or in the back that has a player playing alone with flags and cranberries as these players want their space and won't like your attention.

I was thinking more of a single player or smaller private game.
If it's a full table and you stand off to the side and are cool about it, I can see it not being a problem.
Kind of depends on the player(s) as well I would imagine, if some HL BJ player doesn't like spectators, he could have you shoo'd away

You could try aria as well, but bellagio usually has the bigger crowd on a saturday night, so it's easier to blend in

 

One day I was wandering though B and some guy was playing $500 hand BJ at a regular table, up front, right at where the pathways "T's" off at the HL slot area (left to Gallery of Arts, right to shopping and restaurants)....he's was playing, and being damn serious, but doing up front, in open and people were watching like a show, but being pretty quiet.

So yeah, you can even find a single player big game to watch if in right place at right time

 

I was playing at a $10 craps table at the Rio a couple of years ago with a buddy of mine. I guy walked up to the table and took out a marker for 30K. Stopped play for ten minutes while they counted and recounted the chips. My buddy was standing on the opposite end of the table from me and next to the high roller. He asked him an innocent question, to which the guy said something to the boxman and next thing two security guys walk up to my buddy and asked him to leave the table.

 

Had a simi;ar experience at TI once. Was playing $5 line on a weeknight when some guy walks up and takes out a $20k marker. needless to say, the dealers and pit boss suddenly became much more alter at the table!

 

Most of the HL rooms have a bar in them. Just go to the bar, grab a drink and watch from there. I can’t imagine anyone taking issue with that.

Wynn, Bellagio and Aria are the places where I’ve seen the highest number of big players.

 

if you're just looking to watch $500/hand players, you can do that anywhere. they're a dime a dozen.

 

Find a busy baccarat table in the HL room and you can usually watch if you are inobtrusive and don't hang over the players. Watching a solo blackjack player playing $1000s probably won't go over as well; but if the player doesn't like it you won't get 'in trouble', the staff will just ask you to step away.

A small trick: If you need to go to the bathroom scout the machines in the HL Slots area, and you'll often find the nicest restroom in the whole casino :Þ

 

If you're afraid of the "stare down," hold your wallet in your hand and keep an eye on the baccarat scoreboard. Makes you look like you're scoping out the games. But that's probably not necessary because so long as you're not obnoxious, most places are welcoming.

Check out Wynn around 10pm and into the morning hours. $10K per hand on the main floor isn't uncommon. There'll even be a few $25K players in high limit. I remember during Encore's opening, I was playing in the Wynn High Limit room (I'm krill in comparison) and there was a guy spreading $125-$250K per hand. But the most mind-boggling number was the million he had in banker commission.

 

i'd love to owe $1M in commission. that means i've got $20M in winnings!

 

Unless you also lost $20M on Player...

 

heck you could have lost the $20M on banker, too. but nobody i've ever seen lets the commission get that high unless they're on a streak. it's bad luck to pay off the commission in the middle of a streak you know.

 

I'd like to know what the "innocent question" was. Seems a little drastic for a $30k player.

 

I once saw some 20-something wager $36,000 on two passes in craps at the Wynn.

 

Why do you buy in for $30k?
Why do you buy in for so much?
Are you trying to be a big shot at a $5 table?
