On a related note, I actually had the 'Sugar-Sugar' single that came on the back of a cereal box. You cut it out with scissors & could play it on your record player (33.3 rpm).
(Wish I had kept one of those boxes, as I'm sure it has collector value today).

I think Sympathy is a top 25 or so all-time rock classic. Now the other two ... no thanks.

Never a huge Stones fan, but liked a number of their songs over the years. Like you, those three would not be in the latter group.

I also remember having that "record". I wish I could remember what cereal it came on. Something that was probably 99% sugar for certain.

The year was 1969. The year of Woodstock. The heyday of classic rock. Stones, Beatles, Doors, Joplin....

And what song was the Billboard Chart Topper for 1969???

I'm a huge Dylan fan, but he's put out some real clunkers... & not just songs, but entire albums (minus 1 or 2 good songs on said albums)....but for a truly great album, Highway 61 Revisited, "From a Buick 6" stands out as a true clunker in relation to the entirety of the rest of the album.

    Beatles? Where do I begin?
Revolution #9, Don't Pass Me By, Dr. Robert...
...but the clunker on an otherwise brilliant album? "Within You Without You" from Sgt Pepper takes the prize!

Springsteen? +1 for 'Mary Queen of Arkansas'. ('She's the One' on an otherwise brilliant 'Born to Run' album)
Eagles? Tie between 'New Kid in Town' and 'The Long Run'
Stones? Hard to argue with 'Emotional Rescue'.

I like the first one, it’s a classic. Second one is from a classic album. Third one doesn’t sound like a Stones song.

For me, when I listen to classic rock, the same songs play over and over, for years and years. And often, a song I loved in the 70s, after 40 plus years, I can't stand hearing it again. Doesn't mean the song was or is terrible, I'm just sick of it.

At Christmas, if I never hear "The Little Drummer Boy" again, that would suit me just fine.

Ya know, one group whose music I never really cared for was The Cars. I've always considered it to be tres commercial and oh-so formulaic.

A number of the tunes mentioned here I didn't recognize. I'm assuming I probably would recognize them if I hear them but not know them by name, as in never took the energy to remember.

Don't get me started! Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree and Jingle Bell Rock! Majorly overplayed! (There, you got me started.) :)

From my favorite artist Stephen Stills " Can't Get No Booty" off the Thoroughfare Gap album is the horrible. Album is bad in general with the exception of title track which in my opinion from a literary view might be one of the finest songs he has ever written.

That's okay. I will never listen to the entirety of Paul McCartney's "Wonderful Christmastime" again, as long as I draw a breath! :yuck::santa::yuck:
