There's a chance he was pickpocketed. I read another forum specifically for EDC fans, and there were significantly increased reports of pickpocket activity this year. Those reports were focused on the festival and the campgrounds, but it's entirely possible that they were active throughout the city. Or that your friend is mistaken, either about his math skills or level of drunkenness. You'll never know for sure and he'll probably never recover the money.

This sounds like it may have been dropped - rather than lifted. Odd that this one single chip, of this denomination, mixed in with all the others is the only one not accounted for. But, if it makes him feel better to go with the pick-pocket theory rather than the you-dropped-it theory, just run with that. It's gone now. The 'how' is not really that important outside the "Lemme tell you 'bout my trip..." domain. ;)

Yeah. The pick pocket angle will likely make him feel better. I wouldn't push the issue. How it was taken from him isn't very relevant now.

That is so true. Sometimes I think ghosts take my stuff and move it around.

I lose stuff in my pockets all the time. I usually find it in another pocket.

Anything could have happened, I think pickpocket is least likely. I always protect my chips in the rack at craps, but I actually had a guy swiping my pass line bets right off the felt once.

I've done pocket dumps many times and had significantly more or less than I thought.

I accidentally tipped a bacc dealer at PH a purple instead of a green on my last trip and didn't realize it until I got back to the room. It took me a couple of minutes to realize what happened. It was only a $25 table in the middle of the night and I only played an hour, but had a hot streak, was up about $400, that's why I was leaving. Got back to my room and found I had $100 less than my buy in. Then I looked at the chips and realized why the dealer had given me a WTF? look as I was leaving. DOH!

If it were one of my buddies, I would bust his chops mercilessly for trying to lay some "pickpocket" story on me. :poke:

Are you sure he didn't blow the money on a hooker?

One of the highlights of my recent trip was sitting at the D long bar and some lady handed me a twenty five dollar match play chip that had fallen out of my shorts pocket when I moved my wallet. I later tried to explain to my wife that someone may have broken into our hotel room safe and stolen only three hundred of the eight hundred stack inside. I need a Vegas fanny pack because most losses are self inflicted.

The one night in my life that i wore a fanny pack, it got stolen. Fortunately, nearly everything in it was worthless. The passport that was in it earlier that day was thankfully removed and put into a safe, and i kept my wallet in my pocket that night.
I think he's saying chips fell out of his pocket twice in one trip.

Think it's a joke: he lost the $300 at the tables/machines and was trying to convince his wife that someone had broken into the safe and stole only $300 of the $800 that was in there

Did my friend have his pocket picked? Because I was wearing shorts, and not used to it, I spilled stuff out of my pockets constantly. Someone was kind enough to give something back to me. Because I’ve developed a paranoia about hotel safes, due to stories on this board, I almost convinced myself that some money was stolen. My contribution was intended as, if you are missing funds, you probably had a hand in it.

If he really felt it was dropped from his pocket at the table he should check with security. There are honest people in the world. If I found that chip on the floor I would not mentally be able to keep it, I'd have to turn it in. If they had one turned in, they would then likely review the tape to identify him.

I wouldn't buy the pickpocket either. What are the odds they would only get the highest value chip?

Or an employee picks it up and turns it in.

I always keep my chips in my front empty pocket, if there’s a wallet or keys or gum, etc in same pocket,
100% he dropped the chip, but getting it stolen while sober? No way

This happens to me with room key card almost every Vegas trip. It seems to stick to my phone and then ends up on the floor under my seat while playing VP.

I could see someone making up a story like this to set the stage, so that they can ask to borrow some money from you.

I am not suggesting that your friend would do that... just sayin.

This thread is my " Vegas Nightmare."
The chip was on the floor.
Pick pocket ?......nah.......but as deansrobinson posted.....let the guy believe it was taken.
or as Spicoli posted "bust his balls " for it.
    .
I don't think I could "turn in" a 1k chip found on the floor in VEGAS ?......to Security.?
But......that's just the scumbag I am......and I'm NOT in a good mood this morning.
