What do you buy/consume/collect/own/use that others might think a $$$ waste or extravagance?

(With apologies to Kevin for going walkabout on his watch thread.)

What might that be? And I'm not thinking the Strip v. downtown thing.

Golf clubs and balls. I don't spend money on much, but like to have good clubs, Vokey wedges replaced often, new grips, and quality golf balls. Not really extravagant, but some do balk at $40 a dozen balls or a $110 wedge.

Shoes, luggage, briefcase, clothes in general. I’m often caught enjoying shorts and t-shirt, but when I’m of a mind to make a “statement” without saying a word, I’m very capable.

I spend a bit on tiny saw blades and tiny drill bits for my artwork. Like jewelers sized bits and blades. Then there is beer. Dont even get me started on adding up the cost of how many i drink every week.

expensive wine. Pretty sad when we run out of the daily drinkers and we are opening $100+ bottles of wine for a Wed. night. That is not a brag, I don't like using up wines we are trying to save for a special occasion. I also have other higher end wines that we can't drink cause they are just too expensive ( so why have them, lol). However, these were gifts from my host, so not $$ I spent on my own.

As noted above, new golf clubs every couple of years. When you get custom fitted clubs, these can get quite expensive with custom shafts, puring, etc. The shaft alone in my driver is more expensive than most complete sets of irons. Also not a brag. Just bit the bullet as it was the best performing shaft / head combo of all the combinations I tried and used the $$ after a good Vegas trip for this splurge.

Most people would think this is a waste of money, but I don't spend much on anything else. Golf is my mistress, and my wife understands ( yeah)

praise the Lord and pass me an Olsen #3 blade and a beer.
I was going to post about this earlier and figured most would think I am crazy.

I also have about close to a thousand scroll saw patterns for fretwork and intarsia(my main thing)

Do you calculate in how many beers a project takes?

People often ask me how long a piece takes and I can't really say as I don't keep track...
    sometimes I'll say it's a 6 pack or a twelver.

Powerful and fast convertibles (think 6 cylinder or more) with nicely appointed interiors. More in the BMW or Mercedes line ($55,000 to $72,000) than a Rolls Dawn ($346,000). Since my first car, I have had convertibles or open top sports cars my whole life. Soft tops preferred.

Still cheaper than owning an airplane or most boats. Those I rent.

    Vegas.

I get there from Milwaukee three times per year, usually a total of 12 nights. I get lots of bullshitting about how much money it costs, but I don't have a second home, I don't have a place "up north", and I don't cruise.

Other than bowling (which does have expense, but at my level really isn't too bad) I don't have a lot of other hobbies, like muscle cars, golf, home brewing, etc.

I go to Vegas, then I save up money, then I go to Vegas again. (And sometimes Reno).

And a night before a Qua Spa day.

Other than my gambling trips, I would have to say wine. I don't do $100 bottles, but I like a couple of glasses in the evening of decent wine. I don't really spend much on clothes, shoes, or purses, etc.

I cover my boys with $30 a pair Duluth Trading underwear. That's my only splurge as the rest goes into retirement.

Ah, you beat me to it. Been buying and consuming beer for 50+ years. If I ever estimated how much I have spent on it during that time I would probably just assume the fetal position and weep.

For many years it was going to sports events. Untold thousands spent on going to games. Not so much anymore, but I did go to Las Vegas to see the Flyers play.

Nowadays, it’s feeding groundhogs and squirrels, aka gardening.

Oh yeah, leasing a brand new Jeep Grand Cherokee every three years.

    I collect church bulletins.

I have a box of doubles, but have yet to find anyone to trade with.

Edit: Upon reading my post, I realize I might need to get out more... :faint:

Oh, shit. I just realized I indulge in a lot of these things. Thank God the concept of family is utter kryptonite to me, or else I'd have way too many things to finance.

Vegas is my only real splurge each year, but everyone here understands that, so it doesn't really count :D

Have several nice (to me) watches.

You got me there... I guess its not just Vegas for me.

I went all-in on the Brewers last season, going to a total of 41 games (which include the 6 home playoff games at "it's the playoffs, stupid!" prices). I've been to/have tickets to 20 games so far this year, but if they are as exciting as last season, that will increase exponentially in August and September (and hopefully October) again.

Event tickets, mainly concerts as I can see my favorite sports teams far more often than my favorite musicians. Though I'll always get at least decent seats for any game as well.

Happy to pay a few hundred per ticket to be in the first 10 rows or so on the floor, rather than nose bleeds for under 100 bucks.

As long as I can afford something, I'm concerned with value, not price. So I'll gladly spend a bit extra if I feel the additional value justifies the cost.
