Re California and Safety Deposit boxes?

When I stayed at the Gold Coast years ago, and they did not have room safes, I used a Safety Deposit box at the Casino Cage. It was a chore to go there every day to take out MORE of my money, but anyway, I digress.

Staying at the California for the first time ever. Flying from Canada without my beloved U.S. Travelers Cheques for the first time, ever. I am a bit freaked out about having our entire (even if it IS meagre) Vegas bankroll in cash. I will be having heart palpitations during the trip, I'm sure.

Anywhooo, once I get to the Cal (after Midnight, probably) where would I find the Safety Deposit boxes for guests, or I suppose I should ask, can a guest even GET one there? I will keep enough in our room safe to amuse and feed us for a day or two, but do not want to keep everything in the room.

 

Best to just call them and check. And since you will be checking in late you should probably mention to them the late arrival (so you don't lose your room). At the same time you can also request the SDB with the late check in.

Best to get the information directly from the source. If I get in late I always give them notice of the late arrival so they don't give up my room.

 

I stayed in a regular room and my friend stayed in a premium room in February. Both had electronic safes.....i just reread your question sorry not sure about safety deposit boxs.

So called the Cal tonight, and gave them the heads-up about the very late arrival. Asked if I could get a West Tower room (THINK she put that on the file, LOL) as it was my first stay and highly recommended by friends.

Upon transferring to the Cage, I discovered that one CAN get a safety deposit box with a refundable $20 cash deposit.

 

That's a very reasonable deposit! I think the Gold Coast is $100. The whole process is a bit of a pain, but if it eases your mind regarding your bankroll, then it's worth it. Plus, since it is a bit of a process, it stops you (or at least slows you down) when you are on tilt and need extra funds from your bankroll!

Yes, I think that it is a good idea for us this particular trip. And ANYTHING that makes one take a breather from a 'runaway gamble' isn't a bad thing, eh? And the last time I got one at Gold Coast, (quite a few years ago) the returnable deposit was $50. $100? Nearly my daily bankroll, LOL. Oh, and THAT was the $50 cash I brought home from Vegas that trip, after I cashed it out on departure day!

 

I once, mentioned the use of "Safety Deposit Box" in a thread.
The Language Police ( here ) - informed me - the term is "Safe" Deposit Box.

My guess is the confusion of the spoken word -
".......safe-D-posit box....."
could be heard as
:......safety deposit box...."

I've used them in other hotels.......but not The Cal.

 

So if I might ask a question. I have always just used the box in my room. Am I missing something are they not safe are there often problems with them. Thanks
