So I booked my first two nights at SunCoast, picking it over MSS and Sam's Town. I wanted to try something new and I know the rooms are large and recently renovated. I made the mistake of checking reviews on TripAdvisor and now I am second guessing. I can handle lots but the consistent comments about poor and unprofessional service fall in the deal breaker category for me. Should I pick another hotel?

    Don't jump!
Your next of kin may be charged additional resort fees to cover the clean-up charges! :poke:

Haven't stayed there, only visited to gamble but would like to share that my in-laws have stayed there and they like it. But they like it for the variety of games that Downtown doesn't have (they don't like the Strip) and they have nicer rooms.

My best buddy and his wife also like it there for the rooms. They also mentioned service sucks but they noticed all the "local" off strip properties are similar as far as service (they stay at a lot of off-strip properties).

I remember he mentioned that because they are local joints they really don't put customer service on it's priority list. His opinion of course.

I like Suncoast. I stayed there in 2013 having visited many times, but never laid my head. Summerlin is an enjoyable area with Red Rock and Rampart nearby. The rooms are huge and the views are nice, whether golf course or of Summerlin proper.

I am staying at Suncoast again in September, foregoing my usual Orleans. I like the change of pace and look forward to it.

I’ve stayed at Suncoast about 2 dozen times over the past several years and love the place. Best standard rooms of any Boyd Vegas property, a good mix of low limit table games, and great drink service. Never had a problem or reason to complain about anything … that is, until they screwed up their restaurant offerings. I kind of missed Friday’s, but when they substituted DuPar’s for the most excellent café and got rid of the Mexican place, I gave up trying to eat there.

rooms are definitely much better than MSS and Sam's Town.
I think you should be fine.
I don't know what kind services people are expecting from a local joint.
It's not a 5 star resort, nor they pretend it.

Since the WAX stops there, you can always take it downtown for a change of pace one day.

We've stayed there recently for the first time and loved it. Lovely room with a golf course view, good variety of slots and VP. The only complaint I had was the food choices but we just went over to RR to eat. Buffet is pretty bad IMHO.

Maybe it's me. but I'm of the opinion that polite, respectful and helpful and words that should be used to describe customer service no matter how many or how few stars a place has. I'm not going to tolerate rude or unhelpful staff just because the place may be free or cheap. The reviews on the service I've seen are bad and considering it's a Boyd joint, it makes them even scarier.

I have stayed there once and visited 3 times, I never got rude from anyone. I quite enjoy the place and while the paytable at the bars may not be the best, it's better than most and they keep the drinks flowing.

Oh wow, I've never checked the reviews on Trip Advisor but that's the furthest opinion from mine. We've stayed many times and really enjoy it. Both the golf course and city view are special in their own way.

On Trip Advisor, you are reading about all the people who had something go wrong. Most people only post on TA when pissed off so you have to take it with a grain of salt. Those of us that had great trips don't bother to post.

I've always found it an enjoyable place to stay and honestly we've have been pretty lucky playing VP there.

Don't second guess it, you should be fine.

Have a good time and win lots!

The cleanest and most spacious rooms you'll get at that price point IMO.

Refrigerator and coffee maker. Double sinks, great bed and exceptionally quiet at night (in the hallways). Views are great in either direction.

Wi-Fi is strong and fast at the basic level (inc. in resort fee).

Good and cheap buffet. Subway, Bagel Corner and Java Vegas and a couple of higher end offerings.

The WAX bus takes 20 mins to get from the parking lot to downtown (Binions). Straight down the 95.

All staff I've encountered have been nothing but delightful - especially maid service who will provide stacks of in-room coffee if asked.

24-hr fitness center if you are so inclined.

Can't comment about the table games, but slots, VP and Keno seem loose enough. Cocktail service is good if you sit in the right section (same everywhere though, right?)

    I love Suncoast!

The only complaint I had once was the following:
I had been playing for about 2 hours and there was a change of pit bosses. The lady saw me play for about half an hour when I decided to switch tables, she had to change my players card to a different table and decides to ID me (I'm 33). I gave her my (Dutch) drivers license, but because she wasn't familiar with it she didn't accept it and wanted to see my passport (up in the room) even though: I absolutely don't look under 21, I had been playing for 2,5 hours and my players card was already in the system. What the ..?!
I was a little pissed I couldn't play unless I would take the elevator, walk to my room, walk back, take the elevator down to show I'm 33 years old. And she wasn't the nicest person either.
It was our checking out day, so we decided we would just check out early if we had to go up to the room anyway.

That was the only negative experience with Suncoast. Other than that: nothing but great people & good service and the rooms are just great for the price!! (or a comp)

I really really recommend Suncoast! (have stayed there 3 times now)

We've been staying there for 3-4 visits a year for the past 4 years. Never any issue on any visit. Very nice staff from top to bottom. Rooms have always been the nicest of Boyds, and all tho we are comped our rooms and a good amount for food and free play there has been a few times where we either have taken a one bedroom suite at a small up charge or gone slightly over our food credit we have never had a problem with it being comped. They do more 15x your play then other Boyds and also they give a lot of free additional food at the kiosk based on your play- over and above your mailed offer. Food options are fine. Great steakhouse, good sports bar called the THE GAME, very inexpensive deli, an Italian restaurant and an average at best buffet. We left the Orleans which we loved and stayed there for ten years 3-4 times a year before Suncoast and we just felt they had got too busy for us-prefer Suncoast now.

I was a local and SC was our favorite place to stop at least twice a week and we never ran into service issues. Although "service issues" is a very broad category, so hard to tell what people are complaining about. I don't read Trip Advisor.

I think the rooms are terrific and yes, much better than MSS. Good paytables and selection of bartop VP, although no JOB. We try and stay there at least once a year but my wife hates schleping luggage on the WAX, so when we stay depends upon our flight times and their free shuttle times.

The big negative is that without a car, it is pretty isolated. Granted, the WAX is a breeze to get downtown, but the entire reason we stay at SC is to break up our Vegas trips and avoid downtown. I don't think anyone mentioned it yet. You can walk across the street to Angel Park Golf Course. Club rental isn't a ripoff and there is a choice of courses. Golf is pretty much year round, but winter mornings are cold sometimes.

Restaurants as mentioned, there is variety, but I am a Dupar's hater, so I miss the old restaurant it replaced. I also miss the hotdog cart they used to setup outside the sportsbook on weekends. And also as mentioned, it is a nice Book.

On our stay last year in a comped room, I did the $20 trick and we were upgraded to a beautiful suite with a golf course view. But, even the standard rooms at SC are nice.

So, even though I am a known fan of MSS, I would not change your reservation.
