I shared a vintage Trip Report in that section awhile ago. I probably have some pics, but haven't a clue where they might be as it was 45 years ago! GG
Great thread! My Dad lived in Vegas during the 50s and 60s but I only have possession of a few pics. Here is one that I am trying to place the year on. I've narrowed it down to no later than 1964. Possibly 63. The Silver Palace is still there so that limits it to '64 latest. The only other thing I can narrow down is that little tiny Aces Liquor sign. I added some reference pictures as well. Aces Liquor eventually changed to Aces Loans. So far, I've only found one other picture out there that shows this particular red and blue version of the liquor sign. I know it's really small so I blew it up even though it looks grainy. I'm hoping maybe someone out there with an intimate knowledge of Mid Century Fremont Street might be able to narrow it down. Thanks!
I can spot a 56ish Chevy in the foreground and a 62ish Cadillac station wagon or ambulance. Also, the Fremont hotel moved into the Ogden tower in 1963 so that sounds about right.
Thanks! Good eye on the ambulance. I couldn't tell if it was late 50s/early 60s on that one. Also, the car on the far right, just under the "Golden", seems to be 60s vintage....at least from the front end. Though I admit I'm no car expert. My mom is the silhouette on the left...I hadn't been born yet which is why I'm trying to peg down the timline as close as I can. I'm comfortable with 63/64. Thanks again!
Amazing. I went to vegas the first time in 1993 and thought it was a crazy glitzy city but now looking at some of these 90s pics I can't believe how plain and bare the city looked back then.
Back in the 70s it was most definitely barren desert in many places, but at night the Strip was brilliant and intoxicating!
