    My Trip Report

    edit, trip 21

This trip was originally planned as a five nights at MSS. Then we found out Aaron Neville would be at the Golden Nugget on June 20th. So we extended the trip in order to catch Aaron’s show.

    First two days, Four Queens.

For this trip we decided to forego our rental car and explore the other options. So, we picked up our luggage at baggage claim and made several trips around the area looking for the WAX, could not find the bus stop. I finally did the unmanly thing and asked for directions. Took the escalator down a level, went past the shuttle buses and found the bus stop. We had missed the WAX by 10 minutes. A local tried to talk me into taking the 109 to BTC but I was concerned the walk would be too far. Waited for the WAX, no problems, might use it again.

At Four Queens we did most of our gambling at Chicago Brewing Co playing various video poker, No 9/6 Jacks or Better. Did find a 25 cent progressive JoB paying $3800 for a Club Royal, mainly played this.

Prior to the Aaron Neville show we had dinner at Grotto, enjoyed it and would eat there again. Aaron’s show was very good, we had seats in the fourth row.

Ate a bit at Chicago Brewing Co, always good.

    Coin-in $6728, down $573.

    Moving to Sam’s Town.

Saturday morning we took the free shuttle to Sam’s Town. Checked in but no rooms ready. This was our first time staying at Sam’s Town, gambled there some in February. Now that we’ve stayed there I say it’s like a Jumbo Cruise ship. We checked in on Saturday and didn’t step outside till Tuesday. I really enjoyed it there We aren’t movie people but we went to a movie three days in a row. Two movie ticket stubs will get you a buy-one-get-one-free entrée at TGI Friday’s. Cajun shrimp and pasta was great.

Our Saturday/Sunday/Monday routine was pretty much breakfast, VP at Winchester Bar with bartender Sammy, lunch, movie, more VP with Sammy, dinner, then VP at the Stage Coach Bar in the evening. On Sunday we watched the replay of the Music Awards at the Stage Coach Bar. It was fun to watch and not something we would have made time for at home. The Stage Coach Bar is really neat to me since it’s so small, only eight seats or so. While playing and having a few drinks we started playing Bonus Round 9/6 JoB, a little thing we came up with. We were playing half-dollars and decided that after every 4oak we would go to $5, if you won on the first $5 ($25) hand you kept playing till you lost and then dropped back to half-dollars. Bonus Round was also triggered by two Full-Houses. Kim did quite well on this and ended the session up nearly $400. She even hit 4 to a Royal which paid nothing but fun to think about being one card short of a $20k payout.

At check-out I went to the player’s club and called a slot guy, he comped our room and food charges. We will stay/play here again.

    Coin-in $31740, down $1475

    Moving to MSS.

Tuesday we caught the free shuttle to The Cal, walked over to MSS. Checked in but no rooms ready, dropped the bags at the Bell Hop. This day we went to a LasVegas4ever meet and greet at Hennessey’s Tavern on Fremont Street, it was nice to meet Bonny and I appreciate her organizing the meeting. Flysrb was there too, we bumped into each other the day before at Sam’s Town.

Five nights at MSS has run together, here’s some highlights.

*We had the food coupon book, it was great to have but kinda pushes you to eat at the Market St Café at the Cal. To get the buffet at MSS you have to pay a few extra bucks. If you want to eat at 777 your options are limited, basically hamburger, hotdog, or salad if you want something meal-worthy. Yes, they have a lot of items on the menu marked as eligible and if you can make a meal from one order of sushi or the like it will work for you. The Cal has lots of meal options to choose from and the server pointed out a few that were eligible but not marked on the menu. One these was a daily Chicken Teriyaki Plate, bigger than the Chicken Teriyaki bowl, feeling and very tasty. Also had the Hawaiian Short Rib plate, liked it a lot, more like pot roast than ribs, will have it again. Kim had steak and eggs twice, once for breakfast, again for lunch.

*Thursday we asked a host for a comp to Redwood Grill. Closed. Did get a comp for Second Street, the steak house at Fremont Casino. Our first time eating there, $25 T-bone special was great along with the service.

Saturday we asked for a comp to 777, to get a little extra the coupon book didn’t cover. Saw Gigi bartending at 777.

*Played lots of $1 9/6 JoB at the Boar’s Head bar. Fun to spend time with Jose, Robert, Brandon, and Crystal.

*Penis guy on Fremont is my favorite character, he was gone when I returned to get his picture.

*We still love MSS, it feels like home. Lots of friendly people working there.

*During our last hour of play at Boar’s Head I hit a Royal Flush.

    *Kim made Emerald.

*Used Uber 5 times. Liked it. Sometimes we had trouble with a pick-up location. Like when we were outside The Cal on First Street, the driver thought we were at The Plaza. MSS to the North Premium Outlet Mall was $6. MSS to the Airport was $17.72. While waiting for Uber to the airport I realized I didn’t have my wallet. After 10 minutes of panic (me going to the room, 777, and security) Kim and the Uber lady found my wallet in last night’s shorts.

    *Coin-in $77466, up $1039. Plus scratch cards, 34 x $2, 5 x $3, 1 x $5 to total $88.

Anyone curious about the safe? When we got to our room at Sam’s Town we could not find a safe, so Kim called Security and they said they could bring us a safe. What? Who wants a portable safe? We passed. A little while later we were on the second floor of the casino trying to find the Internet Kiosk and bumped into a couple of suits coming out of an office. We asked about the internet and they pointed a short distance down the hall. Kim mentioned the room lacked a safe, one of the suits offered to have one sent to the room. Is this normal? I mentioned not wanting a portable safe and one of the suits said we could get a safe deposit box at the cashier. So I grabbed our bank roll from the telephone book in the room and headed to the cashier. Safe deposit box is free for hotel guests, just a $25 deposit for the key.

BTW, the Oakridge Boys will be at the Golden Nugget on 02 Sept 2016, hope to see you there.

Was this last year...or did you mean May?
    Nice $ Royal!!
Also, glad you liked Sams Town/StageCoach Bar.
LoL, yeah..they don't have Safe's, for some reason (I think even in the SUITE we got for our wedding, there was no safe, as we had the bricks of $100s on us)

Hey Ty, enjoyed your report and congrats on the Royal! It was nice meeting you and Kim at the meet even though hubby and I weren't there very long. I saw y'all at the Boars Head Bar on that Friday as I was heading out or I would've said hello.

A royal on the way out.....now that's the way to be sure you bring it home.

My husband did the same thing a few weeks ago; thought he lost his wallet. He checked the pants he was wearing the night before. We looked everywhere in the suite when I remembered he had changed into shorts when he went up to the room the night before and sure enough, his wallet was in them.

I won't stay where there is no safe; it's a PITA to have to access a safe deposit box every time you need cash and too risky to have all that cash in the room.

Congrats on the royal!! I meant to message you, I think our paths probably crossed at a couple of places.

I got a message from security at the GN that the prior room occupant left something in the safe so I would need to make arrangements with them if I needed access. Hmm, are they trying to tempt me? Sure enough, it was locked. They never called again.

Good report. Assuming Neville was good as usual as you didn't say he wasn't. We saw him many times many years ago while residing in Austin. Always an interesting show with guests from across the board musically. Congrats on Emerald and the RF.
Sam's Town should come through for you after that play. Would be interested in your offers from 4Q as I am hesitant to go off Boyd play without knowing if similar play (sigma derby not withstanding) would reflect similar offers from other properties. Hopefully they tempt you with something.
Thanks again for the report and good luck in September.

Neville was a good show, the audience really got into it.

Sam's Town, online I can see offers for August and September, 5 nights/Gold Card/$100FP. This really has me torn. I'm finding the trips lasting 7-10 days kinda throw things off a bit when it comes to burning vacation time at work and getting things caught-up at home when we bet back. 4-5 nights seems to be the sweet-spot for us currently. But, I can't see us doing a Vegas trip and just staying at Sam's Town.

Four Queens, I'll let you know if/when I get an offer. From what I hear on VMB I might get something. I liked playing the VP at Chicago Brewing Co, nice and cozy, but I've got to learn more about the games they offer. I didn't see any 9/6 JoB, so I probably played a bit stupid.

Hi Ty...it was nice meeting you and your lovely wife! Thanks for coming to the meet!

That is so bizarre about the safes at Sam's. I was thinking about staying there but I would not like that at all.

We enjoyed meeting you too. Funny you post today, I read your Vegas Bright article this morning.
I'm pretty sure Flysrb had a safe one in suite. To be honest, having the safe deposit box felt more secure even though I had to keep up with the key. One thing to keep in mind. When I first requested it, the cashier said, "Do you want it here or in the VIP room?" Not understanding what she meant and not being a VIP I answered "Here." She brought the box to the cashier window for me to access. VIP room means private room, it's at the end of cashier windows, they buzz you in and hand you the box through a window, close the window, and wait for you to hand the box back out.

Nice report. I cracked up when you described Sams Town as a cruise ship. Kinda agree with the atrium

Nice report Ty. Sounds like you had a great trip. Congrats on the Royal!

Regarding the safe, we have an offer at Sam's Town but I know their regular rooms do not have safes. So I called and asked to speak to a host and then told him we'd like to visit but only if we had a room with a safe. He said he'd look into it and call me right back. He called back 10 minutes later and said we were all booked so I asked again if it was a room with a safe. He claims our room has one so we'll see on this upcoming trip.

I hope he's not thinking of giving us a portable safe. Maybe I should have been more specific. Oh well, we'll see what happens.
