I already booked a flight on Southwest for flights in September. If I sign up for the tsa precheck over the summer will I be eligible to use it this trip?
I contacted SW but will take awhile to get a reply..Does the TSA give you a card or anything to show at the security entrance or is this automated in the computers spitting out your boarding pass...Kinda clueless here and the TSA website is not that specific about the whole process.
    Thanks for any help!

You will get a number, I think it is called Known Traveler number. You add it to your reservation then Pre[emoji818]️ will show up on your boarding pass.

Once the airline has that number in your profile, it will always show up on boarding passes as long as precheck is current

Yup, we applied on a Thursday, got our KTN on Saturday and added the number to our reservations yesterday. We will have it for our flight this coming Monday. It all went much more quickly than I anticipated.

To modify your reservation, you just open it up - easy stuff.

I don't think you can add your KTN after you've booked a flight. I think I either had to call/email Southwest to get it added. But just add it to your profile afterwards and all future trips will be set.

Just to add. My wife has a KTN, I don't. Back in December our flights were booked under her account, all three of us had Pre-Check on our tickets.

On Southwest's website, I just added my KTN to my profile, and now it automatically populates on every flight I take with them.

We had to call to have the KTN added to our already booked flights. I was able to add it myself to our profiles so that any future flights will automatically populate with it. I was on hold about 10 mins but once I got a person it took about 2 mins to get the info added.

Has anyone with precheck not gotten the boarding pass designation for one of their flights? I've had it for awhile now and it hasn't happened to me, but I've read that having precheck/KTN doesn't guarantee that you will receive it on every single flight, as they have to retain some element of randomness in the process.

Yes, both my wife and I had a flight where we didn't get pre-check. Separate trips, separate flights.

Did you guys separate or both go through main security? If my wife gets it and I don't, we stay together.

What has your overall success rate been? Have you had it for enough flights where you could make a guess at it?

No we separated. You mean you both then go through full security, even though she got Pre-Check? Or do you mean you tagged along with her through Pre-Check?

We fly 6-8 RT each year. It has only happened to each of us once. Both times in 2015.

I have had the same experience as Joe, have had it for several years now and only be randomly not given it once. I fly about 10 times a year.
